Chapter 10: The Reluctant Housemate

The next morning, Hoàng Hải Vân groggily woke up, only to be startled by a beaming face hovering over her.

Nguyễn Thế Anh.

He was already awake, fully dressed in a crisp suit, looking as refined as ever.

Then, without warning, he leaned down and kissed her forehead.

For a split second, she almost dodged—what the hell?!—but she quickly remembered: she was in his little brother's body.

She could only stare at him, wide-eyed.

Why does this feel like a husband kissing his wife every morning?

She wanted to gag but held it in.

"We're attending the company's charity event today," he said smoothly. "Get ready."

He turned to leave, but she grabbed his sleeve.

"I want to take a bath."

He gave her a long, unreadable look before forcing out another one of his deceptively gentle smiles.

"Then go."

Of course, she didn't actually need his permission.

The problem was—she couldn't bathe herself.

This wasn't her body. She still hadn't fully adjusted to living inside it.

There was no way she was doing this alone.

She tightened her grip.

"I can't use the restroom by myself. And I definitely can't bathe alone."

Nguyễn Thế Anh pried one of her hands off his sleeve.

"I'll call a maid."

She immediately grabbed him with both hands.

"No. I don't trust anyone else. What if they're assassins? Have you forgotten someone already tried to kill me?"

Even now, she still shivered remembering that hail of bullets.

She had worked in the Bureau of Security, spending her days examining dead bodies. She had no enemies.

So why was she suddenly targeted?

The only explanation was—they weren't trying to kill her.

They were after this kid.

But who?

Not that she actually trusted Nguyễn Thế Anh.

He was just the only person in this house who physically couldn't kill her.

And she wanted to make him serve her.

His face darkened for a split second before he smoothed it over with another gentle smile.

"Fine."

Victory.

She sank into the warm bath, utterly relaxed, while he dutifully washed her.

If she hadn't seen his cruel smirk that night—hadn't felt his gun against her head—she might've actually believed he was the perfect older brother.

This life wasn't so bad, actually.

When they were done, he helped her dry off and dress.

Hoàng Hải Vân took the opportunity to admire herself in the mirror.

This body was flawless.

As a forensic doctor, she had seen countless corpses.

None of them had a body this perfect.
