Chapter 70 - Four Cosmos Arc Chapter 23: The Mandate of Heaven

"What?!" Lang Wuyu exclaimed, shocked. "They slipped into Sky Dragon System? No wonder we haven't seen Pandora warships despite this long war. Sneaky bastards—got some skill."

"I'm starting to admire those two," Telanke said, nodding. "Planning this for over a year with such patience? That's impressive."

"Well said, but they don't know Sky Dragon's defenses are handled by the Palace Guard Legion—monsters, all of them. If Pandora thinks they're pushovers, they're in for a world of pain," Lang Wuyu laughed gleefully.

Telanke chuckled. "If I'm right, Consort Shasha's kidnapping had Wushite's backing, maybe direct involvement. They lured His Majesty away, tied up Qinglong Legion and two regular legions in Boer. They've succeeded so far—no spare legions to aid us."

Lang Wuyu pondered. "You're right, I'm kinda impressed. But they picked the wrong time, wrong foe, and wrong plan. Against anyone else, they'd have a ninety percent shot. You agree?"

"Spot on. They screwed up from the start, especially kidnapping Shasha to Boer. I bet Boer's now Sky Dragon territory. We should thank them for the gift—without it, we'd lack a pretext. Boer completes our defensive network," Telanke said.

"Heh, I'm not thinking that far. Just dreaming of a post-war vacation, touring hot spots," Lang Wuyu said, eyes gleaming.

Telanke smirked, knowing the kid was fantasizing about women again. Last empire beauty pageant, especially the beach show, kept him holed up for two days. A few days' leave might not cut it. "Enough daydreaming, or you'll burn out before your dad's ready to mourn," Telanke teased, nudging him. "Win this fight first."

"Ugh, you always ruin my vibe," Lang Wuyu grumbled, but the fierce battle outside snapped him back from beauty fantasies.

Milo stared at Sky Dragon's beams, like a relentless fist closing in. Cold sweat dripped from his brow. Forty years in the military, and he'd never faced a battle like this.

"Your Majesty, the plaza's cleared. Empress Xue'er reports that shortly after Wushite's attack on Sirius Zone, massive Wushite and Pandora fleets, led by six hundred Pandora warships, were spotted in Sky Dragon System's Gemini System, speeding toward Flying Dragon Star," Long Ya reported as Shasha and I emerged from Boer's palace chambers.

"What?" I calmed quickly. Sky Dragon System's defenses should hold. Good thing I stationed Baizhan there—swapped with Telanke for better coordination—with three regular legions. Pandora's move is laughable, thinking Wushite's help can take us down.

Why's Wushite backing Duoduo La so hard? Their "down with the new hegemon, great devil" spiel? That's kid's stuff. A war this massive, risking extinction, needs huge stakes—power or money. Cosmic trade runs on gold. Metal… that's it. The rare metal I found in that unmanned artificial planet's cave. They're after that fortune. It's enough to drive them this desperate. Too bad—I already shipped it all to Flying Dragon Star. Heh, mandate of heaven. What can you do?

"Tian, think of something!" Shasha, usually sharp, was frantic with worry. Seeing me smile, she shouted. I knew her heart.

"Relax, babe. Think Sky Dragon's defenses are that easy to breach?" I said. Her clever mind caught the hint, worry vanishing.

Her shy blush at "babe" radiated stunning beauty. I turned to Long Ya. "Hand this place to the garrison legion and Dark Dragon. We're ready to move. Before we go, notify Silver Dragon Legion's commander to circle behind these fools. We'll trap them—no survivors. No more half-measures like Pandora. I won't let another Wushite rise. Go."

"Yes." Long Ya shivered at my laugh, silently praying for our enemies.

Wushite and Sky Dragon now clashed on three fronts—a rare cosmic spectacle. In Gemini System, Wushite General Jiteli faced Milo's same stalemate, clinging to numerical superiority.

"Have search teams hit the planets below?" Jiteli asked his adjutant.

"Sent, but we're hitting resistance," the adjutant replied.

"How bad?"

"Severe. Ground troops attacked us on landing. They wear armor—our weapons can't touch them." The adjutant recalled chilling images of their cold faces, shuddering.

"Armor? Should be easy—slow movers," Jiteli said, puzzled.

The adjutant balked. Slow? We're snails compared to them. "Their armor's like enhancement gear, boosting their abilities. Our standard lasers do nothing."

"What? We had no reports on this?" Jiteli cursed the intel team. How could they miss something this critical? Cosmic wars still hinged on ground and city battles, not just ships.

"They reported it, but the officer in charge saw Sky Dragon System's people—nearly everyone—wearing them. With their martial culture, they thought it was just training gear, not military. Their troops' versions differ in style but not function. I suspect they can transform too," the adjutant said.

"I don't need a fashion report on Sky Dragon's gear! When will our troops finish?" Jiteli snapped.

"With our strength, we're no match. Only ship cannons could work," the adjutant said, helpless.

Jiteli sighed. "Last resort." Softening, he asked, "How many such troops per planet?"

"About ten thousand, give or take," the adjutant whispered. Jiteli's tone shot up. "A whole planet with under ten thousand ground troops, and our million can't win? You suggest ship cannons? To slaughter our own or swat cosmic mosquitoes?"

"General, we could wait for our troops to pull back, then…" The adjutant was cut off by Jiteli's glare. "You're beyond stupid. Why send ground troops if we're just bombing planets? Think, damn it. After this, you're demoted to grunt training. What was the secretary thinking?" Jiteli slapped his forehead.

Duoduo La, hyped, led six million warships charging toward Sky Dragon's capital, Flying Dragon Star. They hit the outer defense, the "Yin-Yang Cosmos Array," a vast asteroid belt. Staring at the endless rocks, Duoduo La fumed, itching to kill. Clearing it with ship cannons was doable but slow—reinforcements would arrive first. I'm no janitor. "Damn it, ascend—go over!" he barked.

The order went out. As ten thousand lead ships climbed less than a mile, unseen defensive lasers obliterated them. Not one escaped. Duoduo La was speechless. My revenge ends here? Victory so close, and I give up? Never.

"First Fleet, scout for other routes to Flying Dragon Star," he ordered, eyes bloodshot, nails digging into his palms.

Scouts reported back: "No other paths." A Wushite captain who'd visited Flying Dragon Star said, "Your Majesty, only this asteroid belt leads to Flying Dragon Star. It's computer-controlled—without clearance, there's no way through. The whole planet's ringed by these belts."

The Palace Guard Legion's Oula and Oumei sisters watched it all onscreen. "Sis, look at these idiots. Think they can just waltz in?" Oumei, in crystal Dragon Armor, laughed, pointing at Duoduo La's failed ascent.

"Not many are that smart. Their reaction's normal," Oula chuckled. If Duoduo La knew two beauties labeled him a fool, he'd probably choke on his own blood.

"Your Majesty, what about antimatter cannons? It's our only shot, or losses will be huge," Sake, now Duoduo La's key adjutant, suggested, seizing his moment.

Duoduo La sighed. "You know how many antimatter cannons it'd take to clear this? The scale's consequences—any soldier knows. The black hole it'd form could suck us in. We're here for revenge, not a funeral."

Sake paused but pressed, "Without them, we've no chance. With them, a sliver. Sky Dragon's low on troops at Flying Dragon Star. If their reinforcements arrive, we're done—no escape. Sacrifice a little now to avoid total loss and win."

Duoduo La stared, then decided. "Do it. All other ships, fall back."

Oula and Oumei, watching via monitors, puzzled over Duoduo La's retreat. "Sis, what's he up to?" Oumei asked.

Oula spotted hundreds of distinct warships line up, their unique cannon barrels sparking dread. To the ship's AI, she snapped, "Get me specs on those ships. Now."

Two seconds later, a pleasant female voice reported, "Wushite antimatter warships: 600 meters long, 50 meters high, 100 meters wide. Thirty laser cannons…" Oula and Oumei ignored the rest. They knew Duoduo La's plan.

Oula opened a comm to Emperor Space Fortress. A major general appeared in a vast command room, saluting. "Commander."

"Major General Mikai, emergency. Duoduo La's about to hit the asteroid belt with mass antimatter cannons. Get there fast—wipe out those warships," Oula ordered, exhaling.

"Yes, mission guaranteed," Mikai replied.

Duoduo La watched a thousand antimatter warships align, their blinking lights signaling the tense climax. A minute felt eternal. Victory's moment, a year of bitterness, hinged on this.

The warships' energy neared full charge. Suddenly, ten thousand beams from above erased them. Duoduo La gaped, statue-like, at the wreckage. His crews stared, doubting the point of this fight against such overwhelming power.

Neck creaking, Duoduo La roared like a madman, eyes crimson, fists raised. "Feitian, you coward! Fight me fair, not with sneaky tricks! Hiding under your wife's skirt—what kind of man are you? I'm right here!" Too bad I was still en route.

Mikai, eyeing the wrecked antimatter ships, coolly ordered, "Return to base. Mission complete." Onscreen, Oula and Oumei clapped, thrilled. A general behind them shook his head—war, a fun game to them?

"Fire! Blast those asteroids—clear a path!" Duoduo La raged. Sake cautiously said, "Your Majesty, calm down. We've got ten antimatter ships left. Not many, but enough to clear a way."

"Really? Haha, heaven spares me!" Duoduo La grabbed Sake's shoulders, shaking him wildly. Sake cursed his big mouth—battle might not kill him, but his emperor's excitement could.

"Sis, they've still got antimatter ships," Oumei said, pointing at the screen.

Oula watched the ten ships blasting away. "No big deal. Ten won't change much. Let them waste ammo on rocks—I'm curious how much they've got."

When reports came that the antimatter ships stopped for low energy, Duoduo La froze. He'd never felt such despair. Why? Why? he screamed inwardly. No answers. As a founding emperor, he never imagined building an empire only to watch it crumble in his hands.
