They had entered the late autumn. When winter came, it would be difficult for envoys from other kingdoms to return to their kingdoms. Cecilia was part of the group that returned immediately before the first snow fell. In front of the main palace, Cecilia said her farewell to Cedric.
Cecilia stood in front of the horse-drawn carriage in neat winter clothes, a thick red velvet cloak with soft black fur decorating the collar. Her black mask remained neatly in place, even though frost was sticking softly to its surface.
Cedric stood before her, wearing a long coat and leather gloves. His gaze never left Cecilia's figure.
"Are you sure you don't want to stay longer?" he asked worriedly.
Cecilia turned to him. "I must return before the road to Magenta is covered in snow, Your Majesty."
Cedric stared at the dead leaves that were starting to pile up on his shoes. He gripped his gloves tightly, then nodded.
"I understand," he said, though reluctant. "You'll be fine there, won't you?"
