"Gazef Stronoff?" The red light in Momon's eye sockets flickered slightly, but it was obscured by the full-face helmet, showing nothing abnormal. He recalled that this seemed to be the name of the strongest warrior in the Re-Estize Kingdom. Could the man in front of me be him? If this was true, then he needed to be careful, as this person might be very powerful.
Maintaining his guard, Momon answered Gazef's question in a deep voice he deliberately made to sound more heroic. "We are adventurers from E-Rantel, Lord Gazef. We just encountered a group of people surrounded by a large number of high-tier undead, so we decided to help them. However, we didn't expect the enemy to be too strong. Although we managed to repel the enemy, unfortunately, all our comrades were killed in battle."
"Adventurers?" Gazef frowned, not entirely convinced by what Momon said. Besides Momon and Narberal, the other victims barely showed signs of resistance. Their injuries were minimal, but all were sufficient to instantly end a life—it was clear they died from a single fatal blow. Furthermore, the equipment worn by everyone here was not something ordinary adventurers could possess. Judging from their experience, the strength of these adventurers should not be underestimated.
If what Momon said was true, it meant the enemies they faced were incredibly powerful, to the point of almost wiping out an entire team. Then the question arose: why were only Momon and two others still alive? They claimed to have defeated the enemy after a fierce battle, yet Momon and Narberal showed no signs of fatigue or injury after fighting such powerful foes.
At this moment, Gazef noticed that the three dead Black Scripture members did not have adventurer identification badges on their bodies. When he looked at Momon and Narberal again, there was a hint of doubt in his eyes. Adventurers could ambush or launch close-range attacks on passersby if they coveted their good equipment, but there was a possibility that the opponent would fight with all their might and suffer heavy losses. After all, adventuring was not a noble profession, so it was natural for there to be good and bad people among them.
As Gazef was deep in thought, he vaguely heard footsteps on both sides of the forest. Momon looked around and found that the incoming people were other members of the Black Scripture Team who had fled earlier. Perhaps because they weren't being pursued and felt no danger, they returned to see what had happened and retrieve the bodies and equipment of their comrades.
"Lord Stronoff, these are the people we helped earlier," Momon said, using their presence as witnesses. "They can prove that what I said is not a lie." However, he didn't realize that when the Black Scripture members heard Gazef's name, they all showed strange expressions on their faces. The Sunlight Scripture had previously been sent to kill Gazef, and if it weren't for the mission to subjugate the Dragon Lord of Destruction, the Black Scripture should have been his executioners.
Should we take this opportunity to kill Gazef Stronoff? All the members winked at their captain, awaiting orders.
The captain observed the situation on the scene, his eyes lingering on Momon and Narberal for a long time, but he didn't respond to his comrades' signals. His thoughts slightly overlapped with Gazef's, but as someone who had personally witnessed most of the previous battle, he was even more surprised that Momon and Narberal were able to survive. During the previous fight with the Great Sage of the Undead, although Momon and his comrades had performed well, they were clearly not at a level where they could destroy those powerful undead alone. The only possibility was that these two had conserved their strength in the previous battle. With the presence of unknown outsiders, even if they could kill Gazef, there was no guarantee that the news wouldn't leak, let alone the possibility of causing a serious conflict between the Kingdom and the Empire. So, there was no need to do this.
After thinking this over, the captain walked out of the bushes and said to Gazef and Momon in a flat tone, "We were indeed attacked. Thank you for your help, adventurers. But I didn't expect you to be so strong. Otherwise, we wouldn't have needed to flee."
Damn it, I'm in trouble, Momon thought to himself. The captain's tone was gentle, but Momon could feel his clear doubts towards both of them, and he felt helpless inside. That's why he established the principle of 'once true strength is revealed, all living people around must be annihilated', because it was almost impossible to explain this situation clearly without arousing suspicion.
"No, we had no choice but to use extremely valuable magic items," Momon replied, trying to give an excuse. "Otherwise, it would have been very dangerous." This was the only way he could escape suspicion.
Gazef and the captain, of course, didn't entirely believe such an excuse. For a moment, Momon and Narberal, the Black Scripture forces, and the Royal Warriors led by Gazef fell silent. The atmosphere became extremely tense.
Just as the captain was about to say something to break the deadlock, the atmosphere suddenly changed drastically. As the light flickered, two figures appeared in the middle of the three groups. They were a girl wearing a white sacrificial robe and a young man surrounded by a golden holy light.
Gazef's eyes twitched slightly, as these two were none other than Enri and Kael. It was truly strange. When he departed from Carne Village, these two should have still been in the village. He didn't expect them to suddenly arrive here now. What had happened?
Amidst his doubts, Enri quickly walked towards the corpses on the ground with a panicked expression on her face. "Lord Kael, it's Lord Kamot and the others!" she exclaimed, her voice trembling slightly. As she spoke, Enri raised the magic staff in her hand and prepared to use resurrection magic on several people.
"Stop, Enri," Kael spoke up, halting Enri's actions. He floated to the side of several corpses under everyone's bewildered gazes. Summoning undead is truly useless, Kael silently complained in his heart, seeing his four followers cut in half on the ground. However, he didn't blame himself for giving unclear orders. He truly didn't expect that the
"Retreat!"
Seeing Kaire abducted, the Great Sage of the Undead no longer wanted to waste time. While urgently reminding Khajiit and Clementine, he swiftly pulled a teleportation scroll from his magic bag.
Khajiit, not far from the Great Sage of the Undead, immediately responded. After controlling the Skeletal Dragon to block Narberal and the Black Scripture members who came to support him, he nimbly darted to the Great Sage of the Undead's side.
Clementine's movement was even slightly faster than Khajiit's. She used to be a member of the Black Scripture and knew exactly that everyone on that team was as strong as she was. So, she quickly parried Momon as soon as she saw them approaching.
"Don't you dare think of running away!" roared the Captain of the Black Scripture, who was struggling against the Death General. With Kaire's death and the theft of the precious true artifact, the mission to subjugate the Dragon Doom Lord was certainly impossible. Furthermore, three of their valuable team members had been killed, so the Church suffered heavy losses this time. His only hope now was to capture the three Great Sages of the Undead, torture them to discover the whereabouts of their accomplices, and retrieve the true artifact. Of course, he wouldn't give up so easily.
Unfortunately, he couldn't break through the Death General's blockade in a short time, let alone keep the three Great Sages of the Undead alive.
Roar!
At this moment, a monstrous roar, like a human but not quite human, came from behind. It was the Doom Lord beginning its assault! It seemed the order it received was to protect the retreat of the three Great Sages of the Undead. After roaring, the Doom Lord completely ignored the Black Scripture and several adventurers from Carne Village who were closer to it. It charged directly towards the most threatening target, the captain.
Nonetheless, the [Silver Armored Knight], one of the Black Scripture members, and the unfortunate adventurers from Carne Village who blocked the Doom Lord's path, were instantly cut in half by this beast-like monster's sword.
Fearing this overwhelming momentum, several ranged units from the Black Scripture immediately used all their abilities to attack the Doom Lord. At the same time, the [One-Man Army], who had an overall picture of the situation, shouted to the captain, "Captain, look out! The enemy is coming for you!"
"Drink!"
The captain struggled fiercely and forced the Death General back. When he saw the approaching Doom Lord, his heart sank. He ordered all team members urgently: "The enemy is too strong! Everyone, scatter and run! Quickly!!!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he immediately pressed the tip of the spear in his hand. Cyan energy continuously surrounded the spear and converged into a dazzling, large spear light. As the spear thrust forward, the spear light exploded, hitting the Doom Lord and causing a massive explosion. After the attack, the captain didn't stop and immediately fled into the forest, disappearing among the trees.
The Black Scripture members immediately took action once he gave the order and retreated very quickly, scattering in all directions. At the same time, the magic scroll thrown into the air burned, and the Great Sage of the Undead, Khajiit, and Clementine were transferred by the power of teleportation magic and vanished without a trace.
"Ugh... you guys really can run," Momon muttered, looking around to find that only he and Narberal were left. He was too tired to complain for a moment.
At this point, the repelled Doom Lord and the two Death Knights, who had been magically blocked, all lost their targets. They now shifted their focus and anger, treating Momon and Narberal as their primary enemies.
Somewhere deep in the forest, the three figures of the Great Sage of the Undead suddenly appeared. Khajiit and Clementine first carefully looked around, their eyes scanning every shadow, and only then breathed a sigh of relief after confirming there were no lurking enemy threats.
About three seconds later, the space in front of the three inexplicably fluctuated, then a greater undead carrying a corpse suddenly appeared and knelt respectfully before the Great Sage of the Undead. "Master!" the greater undead rasped.
"Alright, thank you for your hard work," replied the Great Sage of the Undead, who had already received the news and was not surprised at all. He personally removed the white cheongsam that Kaire was wearing and then carefully placed it into his magic bag.
Why go to such great lengths just to steal an old woman's clothes? Although Khajiit knew that the equipment worn by the Black Scripture and the others couldn't be ordinary items, he couldn't help but inwardly criticize the Great Sage of the Undead's actions.
Clementine, on the other hand, knew a lot about Kaire and the famous Downfall of Castle and Country, and her eyes shimmered with a strange light as she stared at the Great Sage of the Undead. Daring to openly rob the Church's true artifact and succeeding clearly showed that this undead and the power behind it were extremely strong, far superior to Zuranon. The reason she joined Zuranon was not only because it was a terribly evil organization but also to use its power to escape the Church's pursuit. Since there was a better option, why not try it?
As soon as she thought about it, a meaningful smile appeared on Clementine's cunning face. Then she respectfully asked the Great Sage of the Undead, "Master, what should we do next?"
The Great Sage of the Undead glanced at her and said calmly, "Now we return to E-Rantel cemetery and prepare to execute Khajiit's Spiral of Death ritual."
"Ninth Tier: Super Tier Magic!"
"Seventh Tier: Lightning Dragon Chain!"
In the now quiet forest battlefield, after all outsiders had left, Momon immediately broke free from the confines of his armor, revealing his terrifying true form. The high-tier magic he forcibly used dispelled the summoning of the Doom Lord, returning the monster to the void. Meanwhile, another chain-attack magic spell easily killed the two Death Knights, instantly ending the battle.
"Lord Momon, what should we do with these human corpses?" Narberal, standing behind Momon, stepped forward. She glanced at the bodies lying on the ground with a look of disgust, then asked Momon for advice on how to deal with them.
After Narberal asked this, Momon began to think seriously about it. Judging by the equipment of the Black Scripture and the others, their strength was clearly far greater than ordinary humans in this other world. If they were resurrected using resurrection magic, perhaps useful information could be interrogated from them.
As for the Carne Village residents and representatives from the Adventurers' Guild... the image he had previously projected was that of a pure warrior, while Narberal was a mana-reliant magic caster and had no ability to master resurrection magic. Therefore, even if someone wanted to revive them, there was no appropriate reason. Insisting on doing so would only cause trouble and suspicion. Regarding interrogation information... they were involved with Kael, the suspected player, and all the information they possessed had already been revealed in previous communications between the two parties, so there was no point in interrogating them.
"Return the bodies of those people along with their equipment. These adventurers are our temporary comrades, so it's not good to just abandon them. Gather them and take them back to the Adventurers' Guild," Momon finally ordered.
"Yes, I will inform someone to come and handle it," Narberal obeyed the order and prepared to use communication magic to contact those in the Great Tomb of Nazarick.
At this moment, the sound of galloping horses suddenly echoed from a distance, growing closer and closer. The two exchanged glances. Momon quickly used magic to restore his appearance as a mysterious dark warrior, staring warily at the winding road ahead.
Soon after, a cavalry unit of more than twenty men approached the two. The middle-aged man leading the group glanced at the scattered corpses and traces of battle on the ground, and finally stared intently at Momon and Narberal.
"I am Gazef Stronoff, the warrior captain of the Re-Estize Kingdom. What happened here?" he asked in a deep voice full of authority, his eyes implying suspicion.
would kill these followers of his. Now they would at least drop one or two levels.
Under everyone's gaze, Kael raised his hand and directed it towards the four deceased relatives, and a bright golden holy light fell upon the bodies that had been split in two. The next second, the broken limbs seemed to have a consciousness of their own and slowly began to reattach. Even the equipment on the corpses was restored to its original state. The lifeless eyes of the four followers shone, and they all came back to life after taking a deep breath!
When the Momon and Narberal duo and the Black Scripture Team saw this scene, a flash of surprise appeared in their eyes. There was nothing strange about resurrection magic bringing the dead back to life, but even high-tier resurrection magic couldn't revive many dead people at once, let alone restore their equipment.
Of course, they didn't know that Kael was not using ordinary resurrection magic, but the effect of the legendary item [Divine Artifact of Fate]. After the death of his followers, Kael could immediately detect their abnormal condition. As long as he went to the scene and activated the effect of the holy object, he could revive all followers within range at once, and the cost of resurrection was much less than that of ordinary resurrection magic. After the resurrection, his four followers were no longer in a weakened state due to significant vitality loss. Instead, they appeared quite energetic.
However, a second later, they became a little too excited, and what they said surprised everyone present.
"My God! It's him... Adventurer Momon is an undead!" one of them pointed at him with a trembling hand. "And he... is incredibly powerful..." Their words hung in the air, but they were enough to reveal the truth that had been hidden all along.
