Chapter 85 - Volume 1 Chapter 85: Counselor

Ning Chu seemed restless, frequently distracted during their meal.

Wen Yang was equally unsettled, his mind preoccupied with one question.

If Ning Chu really was a girl...

Then how should he treat Ning Chu?

Should he continue pretending he didn't know?

Inform the school and let them handle it?

Or… turn his roommate into his girlfriend?

He quickly suppressed this dangerous thought.

Ning Chu already had a possessive streak that was leaning towards the yandere side.

And making her his girlfriend? That would mean he'd have to report every time he stepped out...

He glanced up at Ning Chu, who was sitting across the table.

Her face was youthful, delicate, and cute, probably not even as big as his palm.

Her upturned eyelashes fluttered, and her bright eyes shimmered.

The edges of her eyes, tinted with a hint of pink, added a touch of allure to her innocent face.

Her plump, glossy pink lips were ones he'd savored countless times in his dreams.

Though the thought was dangerous, it didn't seem entirely impossible?

"Where to next?" Ning Chu didn't bother asking, simply reached out with her chopsticks and snatched the last piece of tenderloin from Wen Yang's plate.

"Back to the library to study?"

"Sure."

Wen Yang had grown accustomed to sharing.

In fact, most of the meat on Ning Chu's plate had been taken by him.

It was a mutually beneficial arrangement, allowing both of them to enjoy a greater variety of dishes.

After lunch, they returned to the library.

The weekend library was slightly busier than before, with over a dozen students scattered around the reading area, engrossed in their books.

The quietness was such that footsteps could be heard, evoking the intense atmosphere of cramming for college entrance exams.

No wonder so many people liked studying in the library.

Ning Chu focused on observing the girls in the reading area.

There was a girl with glasses, a girl with white hair, a catgirl... about five or six girls in total, all of them attractive to varying degrees.

Any of them could easily fit into some tag in a typical doujinshi.

Even Ning Chu himself could tick off at least "trap" and "genderbend" tags.

Cautiously, Ning Chu tugged Wen Yang away from the girls, finding a secluded corner of the reading area to sit.

"I'll go grab some books."

"Alright."

Ning Chu casually picked up a manga magazine from the nearby shelf, occasionally glancing at Wen Yang, who was lingering by the bookshelves, and then warily eyeing the girls.

There shouldn't be a problem.

Although those girls were pretty, none of them were main-character-level attractive; they were all just background characters.

But Wen Yang was still a guy.

His judgments weren't purely based on aesthetics; hormones played a significant role...

The danger of background characters was that they were unpredictable; it was hard to anticipate their actions.

One careless moment, and Wen Yang could get distracted, but as long as the plot wasn't triggered, he'd continue his current transformation.

"What are you reading?" Wen Yang returned with two professional textbooks.

He glanced at the magazine in Ning Chu's hands and chuckled, "Why are you reading manga?"

"It's a day off." Ning Chu clutched his stomach uncomfortably. "Besides, my stomach hurts; I can't focus."

"Do you want to go to the infirmary or the hospital?"

"..."

He was silent for a moment before shaking his head firmly. "I'm fine. It's not that bad."

Having suffered from chronic gastritis in his past life, Ning Chu had developed a high tolerance for this dull, knife-like pain.

If it became unbearable, he planned to buy some painkillers from the pharmacy.

"Don't let a small problem turn into a big one."

"Yeah, don't worry."

Wen Yang stole a glance at the area between Ning Chu's thighs, wondering where the sanitary pads were hidden.

Deep in a closet? A locked drawer?

And how did Ning Chu manage to change them?

There had never been any suspicious smells in the dorm, nor had there been any sign of sanitary pads.

No matter how much he thought about it, he couldn't figure it out.

As for Ning Chu, even though he was reading a manga magazine, he couldn't concentrate.

He was restless, his brow furrowed, and by the time he finished the magazine, he couldn't recall a single thing from it.

Just when Ning Chu was struggling to sit still, his phone vibrated in his pocket.

Puzzled, he picked it up, surprised to see a message from Han Jingye.

The counselor?

Why is he contacting me on a weekend?

He glanced at Wen Yang, who was reading seriously beside him, then opened the message, still confused.

"I noticed you didn't sign up for yesterday's sports event or the New Year's event. Hurry up and register. You need to participate in at least one activity or competition this semester."

This guy...

Ning Chu knew this unreasonable demand from the counselor usually came from pressure from the school leaders, but he still felt annoyed.

He typed back dismissively, "I'm not good at sports, and I have no talents."

Counselors often used academic credits as threats, but it was usually just talk.

"If you don't participate, you'll lose credits."

Of course!

Ning Chu had been through university in his past life, constantly pressured to attend one pointless seminar after another because of this credit threat.

But one time, when he didn't attend, he realized the counselor was all talk.

Although Ning Chu's opinion of Han Jingye had improved, all counselors were essentially the same.

Come to think of it, after all this time, Han Jingye still hadn't shown any signs of being a pervert…

Aside from the mandatory activity participation, he was generally approachable and diligent, well-liked by the class, and steadily gaining points in Ning Chu's mind.

Maybe the plot had been messed up so much that the butterfly effect had altered Han Jingye's storyline?

After a few minutes of chatting, Han Jingye reluctantly typed, "If you really don't want to, that's fine. You're an exception, but don't tell anyone."

Ning Chu smirked smugly.

"How's school been for the past month? Are you settling in?"

"It's alright. Everything's good."

"If you have any issues, feel free to let me know. And take care of your health, especially since you're not in the best condition."

"Got it."

Wen Yang noticed that Ning Chu had been on his phone for a while, typing away, and curiously leaned over to look at the screen. "Who are you talking to for so long?"

"The counselor."

"What does he want?"

Ning Chu didn't hesitate to throw Han Jingye under the bus: "Trying to get me to join an event, but he couldn't convince me."

"Isn't it mandatory?"

Ning Chu looked at him like he was naive: "Oh, please. He's just a counselor; how much power does he really have? Mandatory my foot."

Wen Yang glanced at the chat on Ning Chu's screen, mumbling, "He seems nice, offering to help if you need anything."

"That's a counselor's job."

Despite his words, Ning Chu's impression of Han Jingye continued to improve.
