Like all the strength she'd been holding onto suddenly disappeared, her hand let go, and the shard of the mirror fell to the ground with a dull clink.
Her body collapsed to the side.
He caught her instantly, wrapping his arms around her tightly. Without hesitation, he took off his jacket and covered her with it.
Then, gently lifting her into his arms, he whispered, "Sis, you can sleep now. I'll take you home."
She leaned against his chest, feeling that familiar warmth wrap around her.
And for the first time in forever… she didn't feel alone.
There was someone she could count on.
"Jeffrey, you finally… came…" she murmured, her head resting against him, her breathing weak and shaky.
"Yes, I'm here," he replied, looking down at her, his eyes filled with determination.
She didn't have to be afraid anymore.
With that, he carried her out of the room.
Outside, everyone stared at the sight, Jeffrey walking out with a girl in his arms, wrapped in a man's jacket.
