Chapter 58: The Second Transformation
The progress bar in Ryosuke's mind had always been the cornerstone of his development.
The first time it reached completion, it triggered a transformation in his bloodline, giving him a Byakugan closer to that of the Otsutsuki clan.
Now, three years had passed. And over those three years, Ryosuke had gone through a lot—sharpening his abilities, developing secret techniques unique to his bloodline, and earning his father's trust and admiration.
Midway through last year, at the age of five, he enrolled in the Ninja Academy alongside Hinata—and casually bagged himself a future wife.
His daily commute to school even had a subtle influence on Naruto's personality.
Toward the end of that year, he completed a mission assigned by the clan. It doubled as a real combat trial—one he passed with flying colors.
It might not sound like much on paper, but every milestone had taken time, effort, and determination.
Now, at six years old, he was on the verge of undergoing his second transformation.
He'd been studying the progress bar in his mind all this time, but no matter what he did—eating a special diet, ramping up training, even treating it like a video game experience bar and defeating enemies—nothing caused it to rise.
Eventually, he realized it wasn't that kind of system.
The bar wasn't influenced by action. It moved like a timer—advancing steadily with time, and time alone.
So, he stopped obsessing over it. Still, out of habit, he'd check it every morning the moment he woke up.
And lately, that bar had been nearing 100%.
To avoid transforming in public—at school or out in the village—and risking exposure, Ryosuke had taken a month-long break and chose to wait it out at home.
---
After lunch, just as Hiashi Hyuga stood up to return to his study, Ryosuke spoke up.
"Father, there's something important I need to talk to you about."
Hiashi paused, turned to look at him, and gave a slight nod.
"...Come to the study."
Without another word, he resumed walking.
Once Hiashi was gone, only Ryosuke and little Hanabi remained in the dining hall.
Ryosuke glanced at Hanabi, seated on her special raised chair, happily stuffing spoonfuls of soup into her mouth.
"Slow down, Hanabi," he said with a smile. "Auntie Aliang will be here soon to keep you company."
Her cheeks were puffed like a chipmunk, crammed full of rice. She could only nod obediently, too full to speak.
Ryosuke chuckled, grabbed a napkin, and wiped the rice off the corner of her mouth. Then, satisfied, he turned and left the dining room.
He swung by the kitchen to let the housekeeper, Aliang, know to watch Hanabi. Then, he made his way to the study.
Knock, knock, knock.
He rapped lightly on the wooden door.
"Come in," Hiashi's voice called from within.
Ryosuke entered to find his father already seated at the desk, clearly waiting for him.
No sooner had Ryosuke sat down than Hiashi asked, rather impatiently, "Is this about your training?"
He didn't know the specifics, but the extended leave Ryosuke had requested was enough to arouse suspicion.
"Yeah," Ryosuke nodded. "But... it's more than that. Lately, I've been dealing with some changes in my body."
Instantly, Ryosuke could feel a strong shift in his father's chakra—an emotional ripple he couldn't hide.
"What kind of changes?" Hiashi asked, voice low but serious, brows furrowed.
"I can sense that I'm close to another transformation—similar to what happened to my Byakugan a few years ago," Ryosuke explained calmly. "But this might not be a bad thing."
"Transformation?" Hiashi echoed, eyes narrowing. "You mean... another atavism?"
Then he shook his head, quickly correcting himself. "No... your Byakugan already surpasses anyone in the Hyuga's recorded history. It's nearly on par with the founder's."
His tone shifted, almost reverent. "You may not have grown strong enough to shatter mountains like the legends, but your visual prowess... it's said you can even see the future. If this isn't regression, then it must be—evolution!"
His eyes gleamed with suppressed excitement.
Atavism—when superior bloodlines awaken ancestral powers—was already rare. But Ryosuke's potential was beyond that. He wasn't regressing; he was surpassing their ancestors.
"Maybe..." Ryosuke said awkwardly, scratching his cheek.
In truth, his Byakugan still wasn't quite on Otsutsuki level. He couldn't really see the future—he'd made that part up to cover for his knowledge of the plot.
But that didn't matter. Even he didn't know what this next transformation would bring.
"When will it happen?" Hiashi asked, trying to remain composed, but his voice was trembling slightly.
For him—as the current Hyuga Patriarch—having a junior like Ryosuke, who constantly brought unexpected surprises, was exhilarating.
Every evolution in Ryosuke's bloodline didn't just strengthen the boy. It opened the door to a new era for the Hyuga clan—one that could begin with Hiashi's own generation.
Ryosuke sighed. "I can't say for sure. That's why I'm staying home. I don't want something to happen suddenly while I'm outside."
"Good thinking. You don't need to be in school anyway," Hiashi said firmly. "You can pass your knowledge to Hinata. She's... made noticeable progress lately."
His tone shifted again, growing conflicted as he mentioned his daughter.
He'd once doubted her future. Now, watching her flourish under Ryosuke's influence made him question his own methods of raising her.
"The main reason I came today," Ryosuke continued, "is to let you know that things might get... strange when it happens. I didn't want you to worry or misunderstand."
Back when he first transformed, no one really cared. He was just another kid.
But now, things were different.
He was not just part of the Hyuga clan—he was the son-in-law Hiashi had pinned his hopes on. If something went wrong and he reacted publicly, it would draw unnecessary attention.
Just as that thought crossed his mind—
A sharp pain stabbed through his chest.
His chakra erupted like magma—wild and boiling, crashing through his body in waves.
Without hesitation, he closed his eyes and braced himself.
At that moment, the progress bar in his mind silently ticked to 100%.
The second transformation had begun.
