Chapter 41: The best way to scare a monkey is to kill a chicken.

They actually ran into those savage humans again...

Jun didn't expect to see those wild humans again so soon.

Even though there weren't that many…

"Utaha-senpai, let's stay put for now."

To stop Utaha from seeing those wild people again, Jun gently placed his hand behind the girl's head. Her face was buried in his chest, and he felt a little ticklish.

But for now, it was best to let her rest.

"Mm..."

Although she didn't fully understand what was going on, Utaha trusted the young man in front of her.

With a happy expression, she took a deep breath of the man's scent.

— — —

"Aowuu?"

The leopard was surprised when the python changed its target—and worse, to a human, whose meat didn't even taste good.

What's so great about eating human meat? Snake meat is much better.

Just remembering the taste of snake meat from last time was enough to make its mouth water.

Right—even though the giant snake just now wanted to eat it, didn't it also see the snake as prey?

The leopard was still confused, but the wild humans immediately started a big argument.

"Ura ura!"

As the saying goes, you have to take action before the situation gets worse. If you want to defeat the thieves, capture the king.

The python went after the leader of the savage humans.

Among the wild people, only one man had feathers in his hair and animal teeth around his neck—he was the boss.

"Ura!"

The savage human leader struggled with all his might to fight back, but the python was incredibly strong. Even though he held the grass on the ground tightly with both hands, he couldn't stop the snake from wrapping its body around his legs.

"Ura-ra!"

Sand flew, and earth scattered—the leader's hands were scraped and bleeding from dragging himself, but it was all for nothing. His fate was almost certain: he was going to be the giant snake's next meal.

"Ugaaa!"

You two, help me quickly!

The savage human leader looked pale and scared. He saw that the red snake had wrapped its body around his lower body.

"Ura!"

One of his employees threw a stone spear at him while shouting loudly and ran toward the snake.

"Hiss!"

The spear hit the python hard.

The savage human leader quickly attacked back.

But the python was not a weak creature!

Crack!

The python's huge tail hit the leader's body, and the stone spear that had just gone through his body was now broken in two.

"Guaaah!"

The python let go of its grip because of the tail's counterattack, but the leader also passed out during the scream.

The snake's tail didn't just destroy the spear; it also hit the savage human leader's head directly.

"Ura!"

The other two savages quickly pulled their leader's body out from under the snake.

But the python, regaining its awareness, certainly wouldn't let that happen easily.

"Hisssssh!!"

This time, it didn't use its tail, but lunged its head straight at the two savage humans.

"Ugh!"

One of them managed to pull the savage human leader's body away, but the other didn't have time to dodge—and his body was thrown violently from the snake's headbutt.

Thud!

The human's body flew and hit a tree trunk.

But he wasn't completely unconscious. He was still trying to stand up, but he was shaking.

— — —

"What's happening?"

I can hear a snake hissing, the "ura" shouts of wild people, and that loud crash just now...

Utaha felt the tree she was leaning against shake violently from the impact.

"Don't open your eyes yet! Let me handle this!"

Jun had already aimed his bow and arrow at the savage human under the tree.

Yes—by chance (or maybe not), the python had hit the savage human right into the tree where Jun was.

"Mm..."

Utaha, still in his arms, nodded gently—obedient and calm.

"Utaha-senpai, what would someone feel like if they killed a monkey?"

Jun prepared two arrows on his bowstring. Both tips were aimed at the throat of the savage human below.

"Killing... a monkey?"

Utaha thought she heard a monkey-like scream in the chaos earlier. Was Jun about to kill a monkey now?

"I've never actually seen someone kill a monkey in person, but in China, there's a proverb: 'killing the chicken to scare the monkey.' So, I suppose killing a monkey is the same as killing a chicken?"

She quoted an old saying, and from her tone, it was clear she was beginning to understand the situation Jun was facing.

| Notes: This is a Chinese proverb that means punishing someone to make others be afraid and not do the same.

In other words, one person is "sacrificed" to warn others |

Because of this, Utaha's hands, which were wrapped around Jun's chest and waist, now gripped the hem of his clothes tightly.

She was shaking. She was scared. But somehow, she felt calm.

That familiar body warmth, and the calm voice of the boy—almost emotionless—so close to her ear.

All Utaha had to do was trust and wait.

"Killing the chicken to scare the monkey... You're really smart, senpai. I like that..."

Jun sounded sure of himself. He let the arrows go.

Two wooden arrows flew with a whistle and hit the savage human straight in the neck under the tree.

"I really like that proverb."

"Uh..."

Utaha thought for a moment that the word "like" was directed at her. Her heart felt a little frustrated... and a little disappointed.

— — —

After being dragged along in retreat for a while, the savage human leader suddenly regained consciousness.

"Ura!"

Put me down!

When he saw the huge snake chasing them from behind, he quickly told his men to let go of him.

He even quickly grabbed a stone spear from one of their hands.

It was the last one. It was the last weapon they had.

But now, the python's massive jaws were wide open in front of him.

There was no going back.

"Uraaaa!!"

With a cry that came from the deepest part of his savage nature, the savage human leader grabbed the spear tightly and thrust it straight into the snake's wide-open mouth.

"Hiss!"

At the moment of impact, he managed to stab the spear into the snake's jaw. But the snake's headbutt was so powerful that his body was thrown far, crashing hard into the ground.

"Hisssssh!"

The python's huge body squirmed and rolled on the ground. Its mouth is wide open, and it can't close it.

That long spear felt like a thorn stuck in its throat—it couldn't be swallowed or removed.

Red blood came out of the snake's mouth.

"Awoo!"

The leopard watching from far away didn't expect the humans to hurt the snake so badly. It couldn't hold itself back any longer and shot out from the bushes.

The python was still rolling on the ground in pain.

The last remaining savage human looked at his companion, who was lying dead under a tree. Then, he looked at his leader, who was now trying to get up with shaking hands and legs.

"Ura... ura..."

He was as if he were telling his leader that one of them had died.

"Urapura!"

The leader couldn't even think about who had died. His whole body felt like it had been smashed to pieces. When he stood up, his body collapsed again.

There was no time to think about who had died. The most important thing now was to survive.

"Ura!"

I need to get out of here!

He rested his body on his subordinate's shoulder. The subordinate didn't say anything. Right in front of them was a leopard that looked like it wanted to eat them.

"Ura!"

He led his leader back into the forest, slowly. They ran through the bushes until they finally ran into the trees.

"Hisssssh!!"

The python no longer moved around randomly. But the blood from its mouth kept dripping. It was thick and red.

The wound from the spear was too deep.

The leopard, seeing the python was still curled on the ground, approached it cautiously.

It first put one paw on the snake's tail to see if it was alive or dead.

"Hiss!"

The python hissed loudly at the leopard, as if threatening it.

But the strength in its tail had weakened. The leopard could feel it. The python was already weak. It looked strong from the outside, but the inside was weak.

Instead of running away, the leopard crouched down, ready to attack the python.

"Awoo!"

It jumped onto the snake's body and bit hard into its head.

This leopard was born to hunt snakes.
