There was a sudden rush in the hallway.
Students darted past, laughing, yelling, dragging each other toward some spectacle down the corridor.
Nina pressed her back against the wall, clutching the squirming bundle in her arms.
Her breath came short and fast. Her heart thudded against her chest like it wanted out. In her arms, Fenrir blinked up at her, completely unfazed.
"This is all your fault. Do you have anything to say for yourself?"
Nina whispered, narrowing her eyes.
Fenrir tilted his head. His ears perked up, tail wagging lazily. There was no remorse in his expression—just confusion, like he couldn't understand why Nina looked like she wanted to cry.
"I told you to stay in the bag. I told you to behave. But no. You thought class time was the perfect opportunity to stage a jailbreak. Now everyone's seen you"
She sighed and buried her face into her sleeve.
Fenrir responded with a quiet, playful yip. His tongue lolled out in a smile.
Nina frowned—but it faltered.
