Emily nodded slowly, her smile returning with a hint of mischief in it. She leaned forward, placing her elbows on the desk and clasping her hands. "So, boss, what's the grand plan? You are back, and I am guessing this isn't just a visit for nostalgia. Or else you have taken the private elevator from the parking lot." She took a seat beside Eve on the soft sofa in the office.
Evelyn's smile was faint, but Emily noticed the frost behind it. She removed the mask and set it aside, folding it neatly on her lap. "I was thrown out of the Albrecht company," she explained with a little emotion but it left Emily stunned. What shocked her more was that there was no emotion in Evelyn's voice, "Damien is having another mood swing."
Emily's mouth parted in shock. "What? Are you serious? They kicked you out just because Damien wanted to! That snake" She stood again, clearly ready to launch into a full-blown rant.
Evelyn raised her hand calmly. "Let it be, Emily. It is not time yet!"
Emily slumped back into her seat, still fuming. "But they don't even know how much you have done. Without you, that company would have collapsed three years ago! You have been secretly investing a good amount on their projects. Did he even know the boss he wanted to meet all this time, are you?"
Emily could not help cursing. She never thought that Damien was worthy of Evelyn. She had only accepted their marriage because her family had taken good care of Evelyn after her parent's death. His mother had treated Evelyn better than him. "He is just a child who never grew up. All he cares about is his image and only takes you as competition. Boss, you have hidden your identity as the owner of this company so that his ego would not be hurt. But how far are you ready to go when he doesn't even care about your sacrifices?" Evelyn closed her eyes.
In her past life, she had never spent a single cent given by the Albercht family. Using the money left by her parents and the allowance of the Albercht family, she had started this company. She always thought that she owed this much to Damien so she kept making silent sacrifices to boost his ego. In the end, he believed that she was a fool and not worthy of him.
She did not mind the insult, but he had gone as far as leaving her to die. she had painstakingly started this company to help him from the shadows. But he never cared about it. And now..
"Forget about it. There are still some debts left, once they will be paid, I will leave him." there was no pain in her voice.
"Debt! It is he who owes you, not the other way around." Emily was insistent. She was ready to fight for it if needed. But she was stunned when Eve did not refute this time.
"Exactly," Evelyn replied with a calmness that made her friend go quiet. "But forget about him now. What kind of a designer are you looking for? Tell me the details and ask me the questions you need to ask."
Emily blinked, then narrowed her eyes. "Wait, don't tell me you actually plan to stay and work here as a designer?"
"I do." Evelyn leaned back, her tone light but unwavering. "I took design as an additional subject during my graduation. I wasn't top of the class, but I wasn't bad either. If I start from here, I can keep an eye on things without drawing attention. And more importantly, I can help with the job.."
Emily stared at her like she had grown two heads. "You want to be an intern designer in your own company?"
Evelyn gave a small shrug. "Why not? Let people underestimate me again. That way I would be able to keep an eye on the internal workings. More than that, the Albercht family would investigate where I went." Emily sighed. She felt bad for Evelyn but she could do nothing until Eve decided to stand against Damien.
Emily groaned, dropping her head on the desk with a dramatic thud. "You're insane. But you know I will support you in every crazy idea."
"I will take that as a compliment," Evelyn said with a soft laugh. "So you would be my direct boss??"
Emily lifted her head, a grin slowly forming. "Of course. I will give you the worst cubicle and the biggest workload, just like the good old days."
They both laughed, but beneath the surface, Evelyn's eyes gleamed with a dark light.
"Emily, are we investing in the Albrecht fairy tale theme park construction?" Emily nodded at once and brought a file from the table.
"We have many collaborations with them but this one would actually earn us good returns. The project is good and the designs are stunning. The place is going to be the favorite spot of college students and lovers in the future." Evelyn took the file and started flipping the pages.
"Have you checked their papers well? I heard that the house was still not sold." Emiliy frowned hearing Evelyn, others might not know but she does that the house belongs to Evelyn.
"Didn't you have the dead?" Emily frowned, "last month when you decided to buy that dipitiliated house, i thought you had lost your mind and were spending so much just to support an old couple. But luck is always on your side. See, the house's value had increased by ten times and I am sure Damien would kiss your feet if you brought the house for him. Though i would prefer that you do not do that let him suffer for a while," she snickered just thinking about Damien boiling his blood.
"Akright, then I will do what you want." Evelyn nodded and stood up, leaving Emily stunned and confused, "now I should leave. Send me a contract letter tomorrow, I will officially join the office."
