Chapter 40 - Normal Day

Third Person POV

The next morning, the air at U.A. High usually hummed with the quiet anticipation of aspiring heroes, but today, it buzzed with a different kind of energy. As Minato approached the grand front gates, a familiar sight greeted him: a throng of reporters, their cameras flashing, microphones thrust forward like weapons. They were undoubtedly here for All Might, whose presence as a U.A. instructor had apparently leaked to the public.

A faint smile touched Minato's lips. Dealing with media swarms was nothing new for his pop idol persona. But as a student, he preferred a quieter entrance. With a subtle surge of chakra, he performed the Body Flicker Technique, becoming a golden blur that zipped past the bewildered reporters and through the gates in an instant. He reappeared inside the campus, well clear of the clamor, leaving the frustrated journalists to shout questions into the empty space he had just occupied.

He made his way to Class 1-A, slipping into his seat just as the last of his classmates settled in. The classroom filled with a low murmur, everyone anticipating what their rigorous training would bring today. They didn't have to wait long.

The door slid open, and Aizawa-sensei shuffled in, his usual weary expression fixed on his face. He stood before the class, his dark eyes sweeping over each student.

"Alright, Class 1-A," Aizawa-sensei began, his voice flat, but holding a strange gravity. "Today, you all have to make a very serious decision."

A palpable tension immediately filled the room. Students stiffened in their seats, their faces turning grim. Another Quirk Apprehension Test? A surprise villain attack? Their minds raced, expecting another grueling challenge.

Aizawa-sensei paused, drawing out the suspense with infuriating slowness. Then, with a long, drawn-out sigh, he continued, "You have to elect a class president and a vice president."

The collective tension instantly evaporated, replaced by a wave of bewildered relief.

"Finally! Something school-like!" Kaminari exclaimed, slumping in his chair.

"Yeah, I was getting worried it was all just tests!" Mina cheered, her pink skin glowing.

The relief quickly turned into competitive clamor. "I want to be president!" Kirishima declared, flexing a bicep. "Someone strong and manly should lead!"

"No, it should be someone smart!" Momo interjected, her hand raised.

"It should be me, you damn extras!" Bakugo roared, already blasting small explosions from his palms.

Amidst the chaos, Tenya Iida suddenly shot up from his seat, his hand chopping the air with robotic precision. "Silence, everyone!" he bellowed, his voice carrying surprising authority over the din. "This is an important decision! We must approach this democratically, allowing everyone an equal opportunity! A proper election will ensure the most qualified individual leads our class, fostering order and efficiency, which are crucial for future heroes!"

A few students grumbled, "But I'll just vote for myself!"

"Precisely why it's necessary!" Iida rebutted, his glasses glinting. "Only through a transparent and fair voting process can we truly determine who has the most support among their peers! The one who garners the most votes is the one most trusted to lead!"

His earnest passion, combined with the sheer logic of his argument, slowly quieted the class. Reluctantly, everyone agreed. Aizawa-sensei merely watched, he wanted nothing to do with the process.

The voting was conducted. After the slips were collected and counted, the results were displayed on the board.

1st Place: Minato Namikaze - 6 votes

2nd Place: Momo Yaoyorozu - 4 votes

3rd Place: Izuku Midoriya - 3 votes

A fresh wave of murmurs, this time of surprise, went through the room. Minato, at the top, garnered a few impressed glances. Momo's placement was expected, given her intelligence. But Midoriya's three votes, seemingly from nowhere, raised eyebrows.

"WHO THE HECK VOTED FOR DEKU AND THE BLONDIE?!" Bakugo roared, springing from his seat, his eyes locked onto Midoriya with furious indignation.

Iida, who had been sitting hunched over his desk, utterly deflated, suddenly sprang up. His face, which moments ago had been etched with disappointment (he had received zero votes, despite his impassioned plea for democracy), now shone with renewed conviction. "Even if I did not receive a single vote, the process was done fairly and democratically! We must respect the outcome!"

Momo, who was calmly observing, turned to Iida. "But Iida-kun," she said, her voice gentle, "didn't you vote for yourself? Even though you clearly wanted the role, you encouraged us to be objective."

Iida froze, a blush creeping up his neck. "I-I..." he stammered, his robotic movements faltering for a moment. He had indeed voted for someone else, believing it was the most honorable thing to do for the class. He looked even more dejected.

"Alright, settle down," Aizawa-sensei droned, cutting off the lingering discussions. "Minato Namikaze, Momo Yaoyorozu. You're the president and vice president. Congratulations."

Minato and Momo walked to the front of the classroom. They turned to face their classmates, Minato offering a bow with a confident smile, while Momo bowed deeply. "We will do our best to lead Class 1-A!" they declared in unison.

Lunchtime arrived, a welcome break from the morning's unexpected political wrangling. The cafeteria was, as always, a lively hub of activity, filled with the aroma of various dishes and the chatter of hundreds of students.

Minato, Mina, Kirishima, Toru, Kaminari, and Momo all gathered at their usual table, their trays laden with food prepared by Lunch Rush, the culinary hero.

"Oh man, U.A.'s lunch is the best!" Mina exclaimed, taking a huge bite of her meal, her eyes widening in delight. "Lunch Rush seriously makes the best food!"

"He really does," Minato agreed, savoring a mouthful of flavorful curry. "It's hard to believe this quality is available every day."

"I know, right?" Kirishima chimed in. "Totally manly flavors!"

Toru, though invisible, conveyed her enthusiasm through the excited wiggling of her uniform. Kaminari, meanwhile, was still buzzing about Minato's "Quirk" from the previous day.

"So, Minato-kun, Class President, huh?" Kaminari grinned. "Figured you'd get it after that test yesterday. You're crazy strong!"

"It's an honor to be elected," Minato replied, looking at Momo, who nodded gracefully. "We'll do our best to serve the class."

"I'm quite excited for the responsibility," Momo added. "It provides an excellent opportunity to practice leadership skills."

Their conversation flowed, light and easy, a brief respite in the demanding U.A. schedule. But the calm was about to be shattered.

Suddenly, a piercing, blaring siren erupted throughout the cafeteria, echoing through the massive space. "ALERT! ALERT! SECURITY BREACH AT THE FRONT GATE!"

The cheerful hum of the cafeteria instantly died, replaced by a deafening silence. Then, a wave of sheer panic. Students jumped from their seats, eyes wide with fear and confusion. Trays clattered, chairs scraped, and a surge of bodies began to move towards the exits, a desperate, pushing mob.

Minato, however, remained utterly calm. It's happening, huh? he thought, his eyes narrowing. The alarm, the chaos... this was likely the League of Villains' precursor to the USJ attack. The "security breach" had to be a diversion, a way to test U.A.'s defenses and cause panic.

He turned his head towards the large windows that lined the cafeteria. Indeed, through the glass, he could see them: a mass of reporters, their cameras still flashing, had somehow breached the main gate, pressing up against the building, creating the "security breach." They weren't villains, just opportunistic journalists, but their presence was enough to trigger the alarms and cause a stampede among the untrained students.

Seeing the growing panic, the dangerous surge of students pushing and shoving, Minato knew he had to act. He glanced at Momo.

"Yaoyorozu-san!" Minato's voice was sharp, cutting through the rising din. "Quickly, a megaphone! A powerful one!"

Momo, her eyes already scanning the chaos, responded instantly. Her arm glowed, and within seconds, a sleek, metallic megaphone materialized in her hand. She passed it to Minato.

Minato grabbed the megaphone, taking a deep breath. He used the megaphone to make his words reverberate throughout the massive hall, instantly cutting through the noise and catching everyone's attention.

"EVERYONE! CALM DOWN!" Minato's voice boomed, clear and commanding, carrying an undeniable authority. "LOOK OUTSIDE! IT'S JUST THE REPORTERS!"

The students, frozen by his powerful voice, hesitantly turned their heads towards the windows. They saw the flashing cameras, the frantic faces of the journalists, not villains. The visual confirmation, combined with Minato's calm, authoritative tone, began to quell the panic.

"There's no threat!" Minato continued, his voice steady. "They've just breached the gate, that's all! We need to move in an orderly manner! Do NOT push each other! Proceed calmly and safely through the designated exits!"

His words had an immediate, profound effect. The mindless panic began to recede, replaced by a sense of order. Students, though still shaken, started to move in a more controlled, rational manner, guided by Minato's unwavering instructions. Iida, who had been struggling to bring order to the chaos with his chopping hand motions, looked at Minato with admiration and relief. He quickly joined in, helping to direct the flow of students, his voice now amplified by Minato's calm example.

Within minutes, the cafeteria was clearing in an orderly fashion, the immediate crisis averted thanks to Minato's quick thinking and leadership. As he watched the last of the students safely exit, a grim resolve settled over his features. The immediate threat was gone, but he knew this was just the beginning.

Shigaraki, Minato thought, his eyes hardening as he looked out at the now-empty cafeteria, a silent battlefield. I'm ready for you. I only hope the Nomu presents a challenge.

The true test of U.A.'s Class 1-A was still to come.
