Chapter 81 - chapter 81

Into the Abyss: Mira's Journey Through the Creature's Mind and Escape

Mira's world twisted violently as the creature's memories surged and fractured around her like a storm breaking through glass. Faces blurred and bled into one another—echoes of grief, rage, and desperate hope all colliding into a chaotic tempest. Her grip on reality thinned, the tether to Alaric flickering with strain.

Her lungs burned as she fought to hold herself together, each breath a desperate plea against the suffocating weight of the creature's fractured soul. She felt tendrils of darkness reaching for her mind, whispering lies that sought to drown her will, to make her lose herself in the endless night of sorrow.

"Remember who you are," Alaric's voice cut through the chaos, steady and unwavering. It was a lifeline—a beacon in the maelstrom.

Clinging to that voice, Mira summoned every fragment of her strength and will. She reached deep within, calling forth the light born of her own soul, the fierce, unyielding core that had seen her through countless battles and heartbreaks.

The shadows recoiled.

The memories twisted, begging for her to stay, to become part of the endless hunger. But she would not yield.

A crack appeared in the swirling darkness, a sliver of pure light growing with every heartbeat. Mira plunged toward it, the last tether to her own world, her own body.

Pain seared through her, raw and burning, as the creature's fury lashed out in a final desperate attempt to hold her captive. Her vision blurred; the edges of the dreamscape shattered like a mirror thrown to the ground.

Then, suddenly, Mira gasped—a real breath, cold air filling her lungs as she collapsed onto the cold stone floor of the vault chamber. Alaric was there instantly, steadying her, anchoring her back to the present.

Her eyes fluttered open, shimmering with the remnants of the aether storm she'd just escaped.

"We have what we need," she whispered, voice raw but resolute. "I saw… the beginning. The seed of all this pain. And the key to ending it."

Alaric helped her sit, his gaze fierce yet gentle.

"Rest now. We prepare. Because this fight is far from over."

Outside, the wardbinders' runes pulsed softly—holding the cage, holding the line between worlds. But inside Mira's heart, a fire had ignited—a fire that would either consume them all or forge a new dawn.
