Chapter 86 - Fire in Her Veins

Vicky staggered toward Karen, the ticking bomb vest still strapped to her trembling body. Her breath hitched, her mind raced. There was no time, but something inside her had awoken.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" The Boss snarled, gun aimed at her.

Vicky didn't answer. Her focus was fixed on the device, eyes scanning, hands moving. Calmly. Precisely.

A shot rang out.

Karen screamed.

Reynold, still in the car, shot upright. "VICKY!"

He ran toward the mansion.

Blood dripped from Vicky's palm—her left hand, blown clean through. She blinked through the searing pain, then something inside her snapped. Not fear. Not pain.

Rage.

With the strength of a thousand suppressed memories, she swung her injured hand and slapped the Boss across the face. His head jerked to the side. He hit the floor like a fallen statue—unconscious.

Karen gasped.

Rey froze at the entrance, his eyes wide. He had never seen such force—such fury.

"You—!" he began, shaking. But the bomb was still ticking.

00:40

Karen sat frozen, eyes wide, hands clasped tightly in prayer—or panic. Vicky ripped the vest off, her bloody fingers trembling. She didn't hesitate. She ran.

Rey watched her disappear into the shadows, rage boiling in his chest. His eyes dropped to his father's still body.

"…Dad?"

Silence.

"DAD?!"

No response.

Rey's hands trembled as he picked up the gun. Fury blazed through his veins. Karen stood slowly, realizing the weight on her chest was gone. She was free of the bomb.

"You—"

Rey turned on her, gun raised. Karen's hands went up fast.

"Hey! Chill! Your father's not dead!"

Rey fired a shot into the air.

"I'm NOT playing."

Karen's eyes darted. Think. Think.

"He—he's awake! He just moved!"

Rey glanced back, just enough.

Karen ran.

"HEY!" he shouted, but she was already gone, feet pounding into the night.

Outside, Vicky emerged from the collapsing estate—only to stop dead in her tracks.

Mountains. Rocks. Shadows. Nothing familiar. Nothing at all.

00:10

She sprinted like death chased her, heart pounding in her ears. At the edge of a cliff, with no time to think, she hurled the bomb with all her strength.

It soared into the dark.

And exploded.

She dropped to her knees, breathless. But there was no time for relief. The wilderness around her was vast. Unfamiliar. She had no idea how to get back.

Somewhere in the distance, Karen wandered, calling out.

"Paige! Please! Where are you?!"

No response.

Meanwhile, Ndeshi and her father, Simon, stumbled through a trail in the dark.

"Pops, where was that place? I can't even remember where we came from. It's pitch black."

"I don't know either. But we'll find our way back to the Organisation," Simon replied.

"I thought we were leaving the city…"

"Karen and Paige are out there. I'm not leaving them. Come if you want."

Simon pushed forward.

Ndeshi gritted her teeth. "Why do you always run back to them when they hate you? They think you sold out AID."

Simon paused. "For as long as I didn't… I'm enough for myself."

Back in the jungle, Vicky limped alone, every step a war. Her wound throbbed—hot, raw, angry. Blood soaked through her sleeve.

Then, like a ghost, she saw him.

Victor.

"Sarge?" she whispered.

He turned. Concern flashed in his eyes as he saw her wound. But her gaze dropped—to the bomb strapped to his chest.

"This wound…" Victor began.

"This bomb…" Vicky breathed.

And then— BOOM.

The world swallowed her scream.

"SARGE!!"

The explosion shook her to her bones.

"I miss you… so much," she sobbed, cradling the memory of him. "Whoever did this… whoever destroyed you… will pay. I swear it."

She tore a rag from her blood-soaked shirt and wrapped it tightly around her hand. Her body burned, but her will blazed brighter.

She stood—broken, wounded, furious—and limped deeper into the wild.

Meanwhile, Karen searched. She retraced her steps, trying to remember. "Paige… Please answer…"

Far behind her, Rey stood near the car, gun shaking in his hands. The Boss stirred. Eyes fluttered open. A wicked smirk crept across his face.

And Rey?

Rey was no longer just angry.

He was out for vengeance against Vicky.
