Chapter 33 – "Balance of Yin and Yang"

"I can still see... but I won't be able to for long."

Fugaku's tone was a little gloomy. He had finally awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, yet such powerful eyes wouldn't last forever.

Will Itachi go blind in the future, too?

Would Kaien also lose his vision?

Kaien noticed the unwillingness in Fugaku's expression and chuckled.

"Don't worry, Patriarch. There are two ways to restore your vision."

"Oh?" Fugaku's eyes lit up with hope as he looked at Kaien.

Kaien began to explain, "Patriarch, you know about the major chakra nature types in the ninja world—Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Lightning… and then there's Yin and Yang."

"And the Sharingan? It's awakened through the power of Yin."

"Yin…?" Fugaku murmured, chewing over the word. He knew of it, of course, but not the exact connection between Yin Release and the Sharingan.

When Madara Uchiha left the village, he took many of the clan's secret scrolls with him. Much knowledge was lost.

"We all know that the Yin chakra is composed of spiritual energy. For us Uchiha, when we experience extreme emotional trauma, that spiritual energy spikes drastically."

"This, in turn, stimulates the brain to secrete a special chakra—activating a mutation in the eyes. That's how the Sharingan evolves—from a single tomoe to the Mangekyō Sharingan."

"But as Yin chakra grows stronger... so does the darkness in one's heart. That's why many people see us Uchiha as distant, cold, or gloomy."

"That's also why Hashirama labelled us as evil... ridiculous, isn't it?"

Kaien's tone was laced with sarcasm, clearly mocking Senju Hashirama. Even though Hashirama created many powerful jutsu, he was still a product of his time—biased by clan rivalry.

With a more scientific mind like Orochimaru, had Hashirama truly studied the nature of the Uchiha rather than judging them, Konoha could have been very different today.

In the entire world of shinobi, only Orochimaru could be considered a true scientist.

Hashirama? At best, he was a genius ninja, not a visionary.

"Is that so...?"

Fugaku was stunned. He knew about the history between Hashirama and Madara Uchiha, but he had always assumed it was rooted in the death of Madara's brother—not anything deeper.

Kaien continued, "Of course, where there is Yin, there is also Yang. The Yang chakra belongs to clans like the Uzumaki and Senju."

"The Uzumaki clan's massive chakra reserves—their vitality.

The Senju clan's superhuman physique—their regeneration.

Even the Akimichi clan's techniques are based on Yang chakra."

"Patriarch, you've heard of the legends surrounding Hashirama Senju, haven't you?"

Fugaku nodded.

"Of course."

He had grown up hearing stories about the man known as the God of Shinobi. His family had plenty of records regarding Hashirama's legendary abilities.

"His ability to heal without weaving hand signs—it's Yang Release in action," Kaien explained.

"Hashirama possessed an immortal body—his vitality was so immense that he could heal wounds instantly, without seals."

"And that brings us to the first method: Injecting the cells of Hashirama Senju."

"By doing so, you unify Yin and Yang within the body, creating a chakra that gives birth to miracles."

"Hashirama's cells...?" Fugaku frowned.

"But the First Hokage has been dead for decades. Where would we even get his cells?"

Kaien smirked.

"Patriarch, ever wondered why Orochimaru defected?"

Fugaku's eyes widened. He had heard rumours about Orochimaru's human experiments.

"Ever since Hashirama died, Konoha has been secretly attempting to recreate Wood Release. They experimented with his cells."

"During the last Great Ninja War, they tested on enemies. After the war, they turned to their own villagers."

Fugaku asked quietly, "Did Orochimaru succeed?"

Kaien shook his head. "Yes and no."

"Hashirama's cells were so powerful that out of sixty babies experimented on, fifty-nine turned into trees. Only one survived."

"Turned... into trees?"

Fugaku went silent. He knew he wasn't exceptional enough to think he'd be the one survivor.

"So, what's the second method?" he asked.

"The second method," Kaien said slowly, "is to evolve the Mangekyō Sharingan into the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan."

"But the price... is high."

Kaien paused, then said, "Do you know why the Sharingan is sometimes called the Cursed Eye?"

"It's because the second method requires you to transplant the Mangekyō of your blood relative."

"If two pairs of Mangekyō are merged into one, the eyes evolve—into something eternal."

"Madara Uchiha did this. He transplanted the eyes of his younger brother, Izuna, and awakened the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan—becoming strong enough to rival Hashirama."

"Hahaha! Good! Good! That means Itachi can be saved!" Fugaku was suddenly elated.

"And not just saved—he could gain the power of an Eternal Mangekyō! Good! Good!"

Kaien was secretly amused by Fugaku's joy and said with a mischievous grin:

"Don't celebrate too early, Patriarch. Sasuke's talent is also incredible. It's only a matter of time before he awakens the Mangekyō."

Fugaku's smile stiffened. He knew Kaien had a point. Kaien wasn't the type to make baseless claims—and Sasuke's talent was undeniable.

But now he had a dilemma: both of his sons were likely to go blind. What should he do?

He considered giving one eye to each—until Kaien interrupted.

"Don't even think about splitting the eyes," Kaien said.

"You need both eyes for the Eternal Mangekyō to awaken."

Fugaku sighed, disappointed.

Then, he noticed Kaien covering his mouth, laughing quietly.

"Kaien… you have another way, don't you?"

"Hahaha… you know why I've been pushing for Uchiha independence? Why I've been rooting out every spy in the shadows?"

Fugaku stared at Kaien, eyes burning.

Kaien clenched his fists.

"I want to see the Uchiha stand atop the world! I want us to be the strongest clan!"

He took a deep breath.

"I want the entire Uchiha to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan!"

"All of them?!"

Fugaku's eyes gleamed. A clan where everyone possessed the eyes of gods—he remembered the glory of their ancestors. With Susanoo, the Uchiha could level nations.

Kaien's next words pulled Fugaku back to reality:

"It doesn't matter if the patriarch's eyes are given to Sasuke or Itachi, doesn't Mikoto still have a pair of Sharingan?"

Kaien's words brought Fugaku back to reality in an instant.

He frowned: "Even if Mikoto awakens the Mangekyō, if she hands over her eyes, she'll be blind… Isn't that just shifting the pain?"

Kaien glanced sideways, slightly amused. "Hoh? Didn't expect you to be such a soft-hearted husband. You're fine with yourself going blind, but your wife? Not, huh?"

Fugaku snorted but didn't deny it.

Mikoto Uchiha, his wife, was not only the mother of Itachi and Sasuke but also one of the few women in the Uchiha clan born with exceptional chakra control.

Known for her grace and calmness, Mikoto had once been a talented kunoichi in her own right. While she had taken a step back from the battlefield after marriage, her Sharingan and combat intuition had never dulled. She was once known as the "Silent Flame" of the Uchiha—quiet, but never to be underestimated.

"Why are you so narrow-minded, patriarch?" Kaien continued. "We Uchiha recovered countless Sharingan from the fallen during the wars. Not every Sharingan needs to be a Mangekyō. Transplant a regular one, and boom—problem solved. You can still see, even if it's not god-tier level."

Fugaku's expression shifted. "Wait... that's possible?"

Kaien smirked. "Oh, a whole new door opens, huh?"

Right… the Uchiha had recovered many Sharingan during the wars. Though no one had the talent to unlock their potential, the eyes were stored.

"Kaien... do you know how to awaken the Mangekyō?"

Fugaku asked, hope rising again.

Kaien pointed to his own eyes.

"Of course. There are many methods. But there are conditions, and not everyone has the talent for it."

"That's good enough." Fugaku sighed.

For years, the Mangekyō had only been a legend. Only one person in recent times had unlocked it—and that had been by accident.

"But now," Kaien said, "we've removed the clan from Konoha's grip. We've purged the spies. You can issue the next command, Patriarch."

Fugaku raised an eyebrow. "What command?"

Kaien grinned.

"Make babies."
