After lying in bed for what felt like hours—wrapped in silence and uneasiness—Luna finally fell asleep. That night, for the first time in a long while, she dreamed.
In her dream, she found herself walking along the track and field of the college. The moon hung above, glowing beautifully—just like it had that night. As she walked, her eyes were drawn to the jackfruit tree.
And then, she saw him.
He stood beneath the tree, dressed in a white hoodie, jeans, and sneakers. Under the moonlight, his messy hair caught the light, and the silver earrings glinted gently. It was Nikhil—the very person she had been searching for all day.
Just as she was about to call his name, he turned around. His smile was soft. Gentle.
At that moment, something inside her melted.
"I heard you looked for me today," he said.
She nodded slowly, eyes never leaving his.
"Hey," he added, "don't let it get you down."
She smiled a little, the kind of smile that carries both agreement and sorrow.
Then he said quietly, "Goodbye for this life. Maybe, if there is a next one… let's be friends."
And with that, he began to fade—vanishing into the moonlight, leaving behind a trail of shimmering sparkles.
Luna panicked. She ran toward him, arms outstretched—but before she could reach him, she woke up.
Her chest hurt. A sharp, crushing weight sat heavy on her heart. Tears spilled from her eyes without warning. The pain—the loss she had been holding back—finally poured out.
That night, Luna cried like she never had before.
