Chapter 26 - Being Famous in the Underworld Isn’t as Easy as It Sounds [ 1 ]

Right now, I've become the object of obsession among the spirits of the underworld. But it's not some kind of lustful desire—they want something else entirely.

What they're after… are all thirty-two parts of my body.

"I'll take the head!"

"I'll take the right arm!"

"I want the left leg!!!"

The words that came out of their mouths made my skin crawl. They were ready to tear me apart without the slightest hesitation.

That's because every part of my body can be transformed into an obolus.

There was nowhere for me to run. These ravenous souls had surrounded me on all sides—at the entrance gate, the wall of bones, even the lakeshore.

They really don't plan to give me a single chance to escape, huh?

I had to do something—anything—before I ended up dismembered. But how could I possibly fend off hundreds of thousands of spirits? I'm no fighter. All I could do now was run... and keep running.

Luckily, the destiny that gave me monkey-like speed still hadn't disappeared. Odd, really—why hadn't Lachesis reeled it back in like the others?

The fate I received at the Moirai's plaza didn't just make me faster. It was amazing. I could feel its power when I truly put it to the test. It concentrated all leg muscle capabilities—speed, jumping, dodging, even kicking and fighting. All of it felt incredibly effective.

Wow... Whose awesome fate did I end up with?

The spirits charged at me like a horde of lunatics. I sprinted full speed toward the bone wall and leapt over the spirits guarding it. I climbed up to the top, hoping I could jump over to the other side.

But it wasn't going to be that easy.

"He's gonna jump over the wall!" one of the spirits shouted.

The obolus-hungry spirits ran for the entrance, trying to intercept me on the other side—as if they'd read my mind. Since I couldn't jump down, I decided to run along the top of the bone wall, hoping I could outpace them and find a moment to escape by leaping off when they couldn't catch up.

But I wasn't moving that fast. Honestly, I could barely even walk properly.

The bone wall was made from human remains, so the surface was uneven. Rib bones jutted out everywhere. If I wasn't careful, they'd stab into my feet and rip them apart. The wall was crudely built by simply piling bones into layers. There was no real structure—so it could collapse at any moment.

"Break down the wall! Bring him down!"

The frenzied spirits started tearing apart the wall of bones to stop me from escaping.

"Whoa!" I cried in shock.

The vibrations made me lose balance, and I slid off the wall. Shards of sharp bone tore into my flesh as I crashed down.

"There he is! Don't let him get away!" the spirits roared as they charged at me again.

I was nearly caught, but managed to dash away just in time. Even though my speed was incredible, escaping from hundreds of thousands of crazed spirits wasn't easy. In the end, I had nowhere left to run. They completely surrounded me. There wasn't even the tiniest gap to slip through.

Was I really going to get torn apart... limb by limb?

No... No way!
