"The eyes that could see what's beyond the sky."
"It's getting harder to fund your little science project," Charles said, flipping through a file as he sank into his office chair.
"No problem, Charlie... Our future subject will be worth every penny." William exhaled a thick cloud of smoke from his cigar. "By the way, what are your informers at that vampire school saying?"
Charles closed the file and leaned forward, his tone suddenly heavy.
"Word is... something turned up at a construction site. An old black coffin. And guess who took possession of it? That fossil—Old Man Konial."
William raised an eyebrow. "What do you think is inside?"
"A relic? A bloodsucker? Some ancient magical crap? Hell, maybe even Pablo's lost treasure." Charles stood abruptly, slamming his hand on the table. "How the hell should I know, William?"
"Easy, brother. Here, smoke this." William pulled another cigar from the pocket of his lab coat and held it out.
"I don't need that," Charles snapped. "I need results. I want that drug perfected. That's all I'm asking. I'm sick of these half-human, half-vampire hybrids. I want the real thing. I want what our grandfather envisioned."
"Yeah, yeah... I know," William said with a lazy grin. "It's coming along. Stop being so dramatic."
Charles collapsed back into his chair, rubbing his temples.
"What about the kid we planted at the school?" William asked, taking a sip from his drink.
"That brat messaged us a week ago. Said nothing interesting has happened." Charles clenched his jaw. "If this goes on, I swear—I'll burn that freak-show school to the ground."
William smirked, his eyes gleaming with a hint of madness. "My subjects will be a big help when the time comes."
