Chapter 70 - Forest Stakes

Kael sat on the edge of his bed, arms crossed as he eyed the flickering blue hologram floating in front of him.

Kael smirked.

"So at this point… I'm basically an Elarquist," he muttered. "With all these mind core skills I've copied and my memory of her family from my world, I probably know more about her lineage than her cousins do."

He stood, stretching slightly. The morning sun filtered through the dorm's glass windows, catching the red hue in his eyes.

The week flew by quickly.

Before he knew it, Monday had arrived.

Now, all the first years were gathered at the academy's massive assembly grounds. The early sun sat high behind a veil of clouds, casting a faint glow over the training yard.

Mr. Locke stood at the front, tall and imposing, his white hair flowing slightly in the breeze. With a calm, commanding tone infused with mana, his voice echoed across the grounds.

> "Today, we head for the Outer Core of the Elowen Forest. You will all spend one week there."

The students murmured amongst themselves some anxious, others excited.

> "Each of you will be given a storage ring containing necessities: food, water, camping gear, basic potions. Monsters and wild energy zones will be present."

He paused, letting that sink in.

> "When you defeat an opponent or monster, your watch will automatically calculate and award you points based on the difficulty of your battle. These points will determine your group's overall standing."

> "The 1st ranked group will be granted three wishes, any request within reason… and the academy will provide it."

There was a sudden hush then a wave of anticipation rolled through the crowd like lightning.

> "Now," Locke finished, eyes scanning the crowd, "meet up with your groups. Departure begins in ten minutes."

Kael inhaled deeply, then began walking through the crowd.

"Three wishes, huh?"

"That's more than enough to change everything."

His eyes narrowed slightly as he spotted Cynthia waving him over with a mischievous smirk.

Let's get this started.
