Delivery of ten individual packages seemed like an easy task but after plotting the route in his ship he quickly realised the true distance. The FTL drive made travel far quicker but it would still take days to complete the contracts.
This type of FTL travel takes a toll on the human body as they weren't meant for such extraordinary speeds. Kilo needed to rest at every third delivery point for atleast a day to fully recover from the fatigue caused by this excessive use of FTL travel.
He kept this cycle up for a week before delivering the final package, these contracts payed little alone but adding up ten of them in such a short time made for a decent payout for such low risk.
A red light flickered to life before it started to flash bathing the cockpit in a low crimson light.
"Distress signal identified, signal location marked" The ship's automatic alerting system sounded repeating the desperate signal.
Kilo changed course for the signal with zero contemplation, his ship left a long streak of light in his wake as he sailed towards LHS-1361c, the third planet in the system.
This planet was often avoided because of the extreme conditions, the planet was unpredictable with rather strange weather phenomena which allowed cataclysmic storms to appear out of thin air. As Kilo approached the planet he could see the explosive flashes of lightning from the monstrous storm encircling one of the planet's continents. The sight of the storm made him reconsider his decisions but sticking to his morals he continued to travel towards the planet until he was coasting in orbit around the planet. He stayed in orbit until the storm dissipated then began planet fall towards the signal coordinates.
The ship broke through the atmosphere becoming a fireball as it descended at ungodly speeds towards the planets surface. The ship rocked violently as Kilo pulled out of the deadly nose dive with the landing thrusters burning at full power slowing the ship. The ship was rapidly losing speed but the ground was still approaching very quickly, Kilo started to second guess his decisions at this point while starting to get nervous. With the ground now only mere hundreds of meters away the ship came to a complete halt giving him plenty of time to recover.
He could see source of the distress signal below making him question if there was any possibility of surviving what happened. The landing thrusters scorched the planets as the ship touched down on the edge of the debris field. Kilo stepped out of the airlock being blinded by the bright sun, a stark contrast to the dim airlock.
After his eyes adjusted to the light he could see the true extent of destruction this large ship had gone through. The destroyed ship could only be a hauler due to its large size but that was the only clue to it, he couldn't even figure out what species this mangled wreck belonged to. He started his search around the wreck searching for any signs of life, looking under fragments of the hull, peering through gaps of the mess, nothing could be found. He searched the entire perimeter of the debris field but didn't find anything noteworthy, with only one option left he began to search the inner areas of the wreckage.
