Chapter 50 - Naruto: I am Uchiha Fugaku [50]

"Shisui is a traitor? No, that's absolutely impossible!"

"Clan Head, this must be a mistake! There's no way Shisui could be a traitor!"

"Shisui is the pride of the Uchiha Clan how could he ever betray us?"

The three elders Great Elder Uchiha Setsuna, Third Elder Uchiha Yashiro, and Second Elder Uchiha Mamoru were visibly agitated. Their expressions reflected disbelief, or perhaps an unwillingness to accept the truth.

Uchiha Shisui… a once-in-a-generation prodigy of the Uchiha Clan.

Just yesterday, they had learned that he had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan.

For someone like that to turn traitor? It was something they couldn't believe—something they refused to believe.

"I understand how shocking this news is for all of you," Uchiha Fugaku said gravely, "but it's the truth. Uchiha Shisui has betrayed the clan he is the Third Hokage's planted informant within our Uchiha family."

"Clan Head, if you're accusing Shisui of treason, then I must ask do you have any proof?" Second Elder Uchiha Mamoru asked after taking a deep breath.

Without solid evidence, he would never believe that Shisui was a traitor.

"Shisui is one of our clan's most talented shinobi. He holds great prestige and influence. Do you really think I would make such a declaration without irrefutable evidence?" Fugaku replied solemnly.

Ever since his transmigration into this world, Fugaku had known that both Shisui and Itachi were acting as spies for the Third Hokage. However, knowledge alone wasn't enough he lacked tangible proof.

Anticipating a future moment when he might need to expose their duplicity, Fugaku had quietly begun gathering evidence. And now, he had it.

"What kind of evidence have you collected?" Mamoru asked, his voice rough with emotion.

He was torn eager to confirm the truth, yet afraid of what that truth might be.

Fugaku met his gaze. In the next instant, his eyes transformed three tomoe spun rapidly within his Sharingan as powerful ocular energy surged toward the second elder.

"Clan Head, what are you doing?!" Mamoru cried out, shocked by the sudden activation of Fugaku's Sharingan. He instinctively tried to activate his own eyes in response.

But it was too sudden. Before he could react, he had already fallen under Fugaku's ocular technique.

A vision formed in Mamoru's mind.

It was night. A lone figure stood silently among the trees, hands folded behind his back.

He wore the white robes of the Hokage, with a tuft of white beard on his chin it was none other than the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Another figure stepped into the clearing, walking toward Hiruzen.

It was a young man carrying a sword on his back Uchiha Shisui.

"Lord Hokage," Shisui greeted respectfully.

"Hmm, you're here," the Third Hokage said, turning to face him with a kindly gaze, like an elder looking upon his own child.

After a moment of silence, Hiruzen spoke.

"How are things within the Uchiha Clan?"

"There's been a growing undercurrent of talk about a coup," Shisui answered after some hesitation. "And… the momentum seems to be rising."

"A growing momentum?" Hiruzen's brow furrowed slightly.

"Yes. It's becoming more serious," Shisui confirmed, gritting his teeth.

"What's causing this escalation?" the Hokage asked in a solemn tone.

"From what I've gathered, it has something to do with Uchiha Fugaku. At first, he strongly opposed the idea of a coup. But for reasons unknown, his attitude has begun to shift. While he hasn't openly supported the idea, he's no longer actively opposing it either."

"Even he is wavering…?" the Hokage murmured, then looked at Shisui with a serious expression. "If the Uchiha were to launch a coup one day, where would you stand?"

"I am an Uchiha, yes but I'm also a shinobi of the Hidden Leaf. If it ever comes to that, I will side with the village," Shisui said without much hesitation.

"But I won't allow things to reach that point. If the situation deteriorates, I will use these eyes to stop the clan."

"Good… very good. You haven't disappointed me," the Third Hokage nodded in satisfaction. Then he sighed.

"If only there were more like you in the Uchiha Clan…"

"There are still many within the clan who desire peace, despite the rising talk of rebellion," Shisui replied.

"That's reassuring. Keep watching the clan's movements just make sure not to blow your cover."

"Understood, Lord Hokage."

With that, the two parted ways and vanished into the night. The vision faded.

"What are you trying to do?!"

Great Elder Setsuna and Third Elder Yashiro jumped to their feet in alarm, eyes flaring with Sharingan, their bodies tensed as they glared warily at Fugaku.

"Stop! It's a misunderstanding!" Mamoru suddenly cried out, snapping back to consciousness.

Seeing the tension in the room, he quickly tried to defuse the situation.

"You should be able to tell whether it was a genjutsu, right?" Fugaku asked calmly, looking at him.

"I can," Mamoru replied, his voice filled with sorrow and disappointment.

"What… what exactly happened?" Great Elder Setsuna asked, his tone still cautious as he and Yashiro slowly took their seats again.

"The Clan Head just now used a Sharingan technique to share what he had seen directly with me," Mamoru explained, his voice heavy.

The Uchiha Sharingan possessed powerful perceptive abilities not only could it remember details with perfect clarity, but it could also project those memories into others.

What Fugaku had shown him… was not an illusion. It was too clear, too vivid. As someone who had awakened the Sharingan himself, Mamoru could distinguish between genjutsu and real memories.

And what he saw was real it had actually happened.

"No… no, it can't be…" Setsuna and Yashiro both felt a sinking dread as they saw Mamoru's grief-stricken expression.

Facing their gaze, Mamoru spoke his voice pained and full of despair.

"Uchiha Shisui… is the Third Hokage's informant planted within our clan!"
