Chapter 23 - Chapter 22: No Future

The edge of this bat dart wasn't sharp and wasn't intended to kill. Connors held the bat dart, which kept flashing red, twirling it between his fingertips, and said with a smile, "I know nothing about computers, but even if I broke into yours, you'd definitely be able to detect it." As he said that, he threw the bat dart to Batman, who caught it.

This was the bat tracker Batman had placed in Connors's home earlier that day when Connors wasn't there.

It wasn't a coincidence that he turned on the stadium's surveillance; the tracker had sent him Connors's location, and it was pure coincidence that he saw the Flying Graysons' accident.

As for Connors, thanks to his Spider-Sense, he had already discovered the tracker's existence. Because he constantly had to move around and inevitably encountered situations where he couldn't prove himself, he didn't destroy the tracker, but instead carried it with him. And this was clearly the moment for the tracker to come into play.

Bruce Wayne caught the tracker, and all the guns sticking out from every corner of the room retracted. Just as Connors had envisioned this scene before arriving, Bruce Wayne had also checked the signal from the tracker before Connors appeared.

The display of guns was merely a precautionary measure. Now that the misunderstanding was resolved, there was no need for such tension. And Bruce Wayne also urgently wanted to hear about "the destruction of the world" from Connors.

"The destruction you're talking about, is it related to the Superman in Metropolis?" Bruce Wayne and Connors entered the Batcave together. After exchanging a few pleasantries, the conversation officially turned to Connors's purpose.

"Huh?" Connors didn't react for a moment. He was talking about news from Marvel next door.

What did that have to do with Superman? Soon, he glanced at the computer screen in the Batcave, which Bruce Wayne quickly closed—a page titled "Analysis of Superman's Abilities"—and understood what the man was referring to. Obviously, the omnipotent Superman was regarded as an imaginary enemy by Batman, though they hadn't yet met.

"He's a pretty nice guy. I'm not sure if it's related to the world's destruction. I called you here just to tell you the news and see if it can be prevented in advance," Connors said.

"Do you know him?" Batman asked, pointing to the picture of Superman on the computer.

"How would I know him?" Connors was helpless. If he wanted to get to know Superman, he'd have to run over and witness major events involving him. After all, the Gossip System was suspected to be related to the power level of the "gossip producer." The stronger the individual, the better the reward.

From a logical perspective, the stronger the person, the greater the impact of their every move. Even a fight between two people would yield different levels of rewards depending on whether they were ordinary people, superheroes, or supermen.

"I don't know much. Doctor Fate has the ability to predict the future. Can you find him?" Connors got straight to the point.

"Who is Doctor Fate?" Bruce Wayne had never even heard of that title.

"Omen, where's Lilith Clay?"

"…" Batman was silent.

"Zatanna?"

"…"

"Where's Barry the Flash?"

"I know him!" Bruce Wayne breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, someone he recognized. At the same time, a question arose in his mind: Why does Connors know so much? Where did such a formidable person come from?

Connors also breathed a sigh of relief. He was afraid that this world's Batman hadn't yet had any interaction with "The Flash" Barry, which would mean he'd have to find him himself. "That's easy. Although Barry doesn't have the ability to predict, we can have him look into the future for us to see when the danger will arrive."

"…" Batman had always been the one leading others, so this was the first time he'd been given such clear instructions. He was depressed for a moment, then took out his phone in front of Connors: "Barry? I need your help."

Before the phone call ended, a man wrapped in red tights appeared in front of Connors.

"Long time no see, Barry." Connors looked at Barry, who resembled his TV series counterpart, and took a liking to him, greeting him proactively.

"…Hi?" Barry looked at Connors in confusion. "Have we met somewhere?"

"Not really. I've just been coveting your Speed Force for a long time," Connors confessed, scaring Barry into backing away.

Bruce Wayne looked at the two who had started chatting without waiting for his introduction, and without giving them a chance to continue, he forcefully interrupted: "Barry, I need you to take a look at us… no, take a look at the future of this world."

"I'm always going back to the past, but this is the first time I'm running toward the future." Barry took off his mask, put it back on after hearing this, and disappeared.

Under normal circumstances, Barry's disappearance and reappearance took only a moment; people with poor eyesight might not even notice he'd vanished. But this time, strangely, he didn't reappear for a long time.

One minute, two minutes.

Ten minutes.

It wasn't until nearly fifteen minutes later that Barry reappeared, sitting on the ground with a dull look in his eyes.

"Barry!" Batman hurried forward to help him up. Flash Barry was like a puppet, manipulated by others, as if he had lost the ability to think.

It wasn't until Connors and Bruce Wayne put their heads together, staring at Barry and calling out, that Barry seemed to come back to his senses. But his expression was still dull, his eyes lifeless, and he muttered, "We have no future…"

This sentence stunned the two men. What did "no future" mean?

With the efforts of Connors and Bruce, Barry finally recovered, became sunny and cheerful again, and returned to Central City.

Bruce Wayne fell silent, and Connors said goodbye at the opportune moment.

On Marvel's side, the world was just destroyed, but on DC's side, there was no future at all, which caught Connors a little off guard.

Both parties were now on the same planet, and it seemed they might share a destiny of prosperity or suffering. But since he was here, he might as well make the best of it. All he had to do now was to keep seeking out "gossip," big "gossip," and make himself stronger and strong enough to deal with whatever situations arose.

Batman did not appear in Gotham City tonight, but the Batplane soared in the sky and the Batmobile patrolled the streets, ensuring no one in Gotham City dared to act rashly. But there was one exception. Connors swaggered on the streets of Gotham.

After being hungry all day, he was looking for a restaurant to fill his stomach—Batman hadn't treated him to a meal—and the supercar he'd borrowed from Alfred had also been stolen.

Then he was stopped by a red-haired female spy.

"Crunch—" The harsh sound of tire friction echoed in Connors's ears, and the stolen supercar stopped in front of him in an extremely handsome drifting posture. Natasha rolled down the window and looked at him with a smile: "Do you need a ride?"

Connors looked at Natasha and smiled: "You came at the wrong time."

After that, the car was caught by a large amount of spider silk falling from the sky and flew into the air. Not only was Natasha looking for him, but Cindy Moon, who had been "hungry" all day yesterday, was also looking for him. What a coincidence that the two of them met simultaneously.

So, history repeated itself, only this time Connors wasn't in the car.
