Once he finished showering, Matteo turned off the water and walked out of the bathroom. Taking a towel, he dried off and then went to his room. He put on his underwear and pajamas, and then he made a phone call.
He called a private doctor to come treat both him and his bodyguard at the apartment they were staying in. As he waited, his thoughts raced. If he wanted to save Luna, to keep her safe, he couldn't let her get involved in this world. He needed to become ruthless again, just like before. No more holding back. Things that needed to be done should be done.
With that thought in mind, Matteo called Lorenzo.
He explained how he had defeated Mario and most of Mario's men. "From now on, we're not the Gambino family anymore. This is going to be a lesson to Mario," Matteo said. "I'm never going to trouble anyone again, but things are going to change."
Lorenzo listened carefully. "But, boss, what do you mean by 'ruthless like before'?" he asked.
Matteo's voice was cold. "You've noticed it too. I've been holding back. Since I met Luna, I've been more calm, carefree. Things that should've been done, I didn't do. People I should've eliminated, I didn't. But now? It's phase two. So get ready."
After Matteo hung up, Lorenzo glanced at his phone. Luna was calling.
"Is this a coincidence?" Lorenzo muttered to himself. "Your husband just called, and now you're calling me?"
He picked up the phone. "Hello?"
Luna's voice came through. "It's Luna. What's going on? Is something wrong?"
Lorenzo's tone was sharp. "Do you know what's going on? Matteo's been acting strangely. He didn't come back last night. He went out, and it's already morning. He hasn't called me. What's going on?"
Luna's confusion was clear. "What do you mean? I don't know anything. He hasn't called me either."
Lorenzo's voice darkened. "Don't lie to me. Don't even think about it. Do you remember the picture I took on my phone? I could send it to Matteo and tell him you were trying to harass me. What do you think would happen then? So if you don't want trouble, tell me what's going on."
Luna's anger flared. "You damn—"
Lorenzo cut her off, his teeth clenched in fury. "Start talking, now."Luna said.
Matteo is having some trouble now, and we're already in the middle of it. He told me that when you guys went to the spa, someone named Mario was there. A person tried to attack him, which could've also put your life at risk. That's what made Matteo angry, and he went to teach Mario a lesson. It's been bothering him since because Mario crossed the line. That's why, that very night when you guys were at home, Matteo left to handle the situation with Mario. He already did what needed to be done. He defeated most of Mario's men by himself and said he beat Mario to the point that Mario fell unconscious. So, is there anything more you need to know? That's all I know.
Lorenzo said, "Are you telling the truth? Are you sure he defeated all those men himself? Are you sure you're not mistaken?"
Luna replied, "No, I'm telling you the truth. You're disturbing me. Don't call me again. Right now, I'm getting ready. I think I'm going to go meet Matteo this afternoon. I need to talk to him. Now you know what's going on."
Lorenzo, after hanging up, muttered to himself, "What does that woman want? Why is she sticking her nose into Mafia business?"
