Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Escort Mission – Bound for the Frontlines

When Mirai Uchiha heard the news of the disappearance of the Third Kazekage, his heart began to race with excitement.

In the original storyline, Sasori of the Red Sand had turned the Third Kazekage into a human puppet before defecting as a rogue ninja.

And Sunagakure was completely unaware of this.

After repelling an attack from Cloud, Sand declared war on Konoha under the pretense of searching for the Kazekage's whereabouts.

Thus began the Third Great Ninja War.

Previously, Mirai Uchiha would have done everything in his power to avoid being dragged into such a brutal conflict.

After all…

On the battlefield filled with constant danger,

One tiny mistake — and you're dead.

But now, his perspective had completely changed.

With the Plunder System inside him, he desperately needed large-scale battles where enemies could be killed endlessly.

The more enemies he killed, the stronger his strength would become.

Once his power reached a certain level, he could finally begin purging the Hokage line.

The Uchiha Clan…

Would surely rise as the dominant power in the ninja world through him!

...

Sunagakure.

Kazekage Building.

Kazekage Office.

An elderly woman with short silver hair stood with her hands clasped behind her back, her gaze hardening as she stared out the window.

"Big sister, are we really going to start a war against Konoha?"

Behind Chiyo stood an old man with long white eyebrows, asking with some concern.

"Haurozou, I've suppressed this hatred for far too long."

"This may be my only chance to avenge my son and daughter-in-law."

Chiyo turned around, her eyes burning with vengeful fury. "Konoha isn't nearly as strong as it used to be. If we defeated Kumogakure, what did we have to fear?"

Upon hearing Chiyo's words, Haurozou hesitated slightly. "But… White Fang has already died."

"Hmph!"

"Even if he's dead, Konoha will pay for what they did."

Chiyo coldly replied.

Ever since her son and daughter-in-law died, Sasori had grown withdrawn and strange.

Now he'd even killed village guards and secretly fled the village, becoming a rogue ninja.

All of this was Konoha's fault.

Therefore… no matter what, she'd make Konoha pay!

"But—"

"Forget it. Don't try to persuade me anymore." Seeing Haurozou wanting to speak again, Chiyo waved her hand dismissively. "This is also the Daimyo's wish."

After repelling Cloud's sneak attack, the Wind Country Daimyo had set his sights on the more fertile [Land of Fire Territory].

If they could defeat Konoha, the benefits gained for Wind Country would be immeasurable.

Therefore, the Daimyo of the Land of Wind fully supported Chiyo's proposal and even allocated a substantial military budget in advance.

Upon hearing Chiyo had brought up the Daimyo's name, Haurozou fell silent and quietly withdrew from the room.

After he left, Chiyo took a deep breath.

This time, she would make sure the ninja of Konoha suffered—tearing apart their families and reducing their homes to ruins!

...

In the Hidden Leaf Village,

Mirai Uchiha arrived at the Hokage's Office, escorted by an Anbu member.

As soon as Mirai entered, she saw Minato Namikaze, Obito Uchiha, Rin Nohara, Kakashi Hatake, Shizuka Yuhi, Asuma Sarutobi, and Kurenai Yuhi already standing there.

"Alright, everyone is here."

Hiruzen Sarutobi exhaled a puff of smoke and spoke solemnly as Mirai took her place, "Recently, border clashes have been increasing constantly, especially with Sunagakure ninja being highly active."

"The village has decided to deploy a shipment of supplies to the front line to support our forces there."

"Shizuka, Minato, this mission will be under your command."

"Yes!"

Upon hearing Hiruzen Sarutobi's orders, Minato Namikaze and Shizuka Yuhi immediately nodded in agreement.

After handing them two mission scrolls, Hiruzen turned his gaze toward Mirai Uchiha, "Mirai, this mission will be extremely dangerous. As a ninja from the Uchiha Clan, if you wish not to go, I can transfer you back to the Military Police Force."

Hearing Hiruzen's words, Mirai Uchiha scoffed inwardly.

That old man... Still didn't trust him completely.

"Third Generation, I don't want to go back to the Military Police Force. No matter how dangerous the battlefield might be, I won't retreat."

Mirai firmly stated.

Are you kidding?

He was hoping to rapidly grow stronger by going to war. If he returned to the Konoha Military Police Force, forget gaining any real strength!

"Very well then, this mission will be entrusted to you."

Hiruzen Sarutobi waved his hand with a smile, "You all should start preparing now. You'll leave tomorrow morning."

"Yes!"

After everyone else left, an Anbu emerged from the shadows.

"How is it?"

Hiruzen asked while looking at the Anbu.

"Hokage-sama, according to our Sensor, Mirai Uchiha showed no signs of mental hesitation or chakra fluctuation just now. He must've meant every word he said."

"I see."

Hearing the Anbu's report, Hiruzen felt greatly reassured.

It seemed his judgment had been correct after all; Mirai Uchiha indeed was a trustworthy spy.

...

The next day.

At the village entrance.

"Ohaayo~"

Mirai Uchiha lazily ambled over and greeted the others who had already arrived.

"Hey, you! Why are you so late?"

"You made all of us wait here for you!"

Obito Uchiha shot a glare at Mirai Uchiha.

"Huh?"

"Am I late?"

Mirai Uchiha asked, looking at Obito in confusion.

"Well..." Obito hesitated.

There was still less than two minutes left before the meeting time. Mirai wasn't actually late—it was just that they had arrived too early.

"You're not late, but still..."

"If you keep babbling, I'll kill you."

Feeling the killing intent radiating from Mirai, Obito immediately felt his hair stand on end. An overwhelming pressure made it hard for him to even breathe normally.

"Mirai, let me apologize to you on behalf of Obito."

Minato Namikaze stepped forward and smiled at Mirai.

"You...just now wanted to kill me!"

Coming back to his senses, Obito muttered while staring at Mirai.

"I was only kidding."

Mirai shrugged. "Didn't know you were that easy to scare."

"Damn it..."

Obito clenched his fists tightly.

Getting scared by one sentence from Mirai right in front of Rin Nohara made him feel like his dignity was shattered. They were both ninjas—how could this guy's aura be so terrifying?

Kakashi Hatake raised an eyebrow in surprise.

Just now, Mirai's aura didn't seem like that of someone who hadn't even graduated from the Ninja Academy half a year ago.

Kurenai Yuhi and Asuma Sarutobi, however, looked completely used to it.

Asuma, especially, seemed unfazed.

Seeing Obito's reaction, he surprisingly felt a strange sense of sympathy.

Fellow victims indeed!

How many times had he been humiliated like this by Mirai Uchiha?

If they hadn't still had a journey ahead, Asuma would've pulled Obito aside to compare notes.
