The following days saw Ren becoming more active in village patrols, often paired with Sam. Their partnership—once marked by awkwardness—now carried a rhythm. He covered her blind spots in battle simulations. She helped him refine his elemental spellcasting.
And Jon noticed it.
One afternoon, Jon—now able to walk with help—invited Sam to sit with him while Lyanna and Jinora napped nearby.
Jon:
"So… you and Ren, huh?"
Sam flushed.
Sam:
"Is it that obvious?"
Jon (smirking):
"You look at her like she's your sun and stars. That's how I look at Asha and SatSuki."
Sam chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.
Sam:
"She's scary… but also amazing. I want to protect her. I want to be strong for her."
Jon's eyes softened.
Jon:
"Then keep growing, Sam. This world is brutal. If you want to protect those you love, never stop sharpening your blade—or your heart."
That evening, Sam found Ren meditating near the Spirit Pool.
Without a word, he sat beside her. Their fingers laced naturally this time.
Ren (softly):
"I think… I want to walk this path with you. Even if I'm scared."
Sam:
"I'll be scared with you."
Ren (smiling faintly):
"Idiot."
As their connection deepened, so too did the fates tying them to this world. And though they couldn't see it yet, the winds of change stirred in the distance—bringing with them the seeds of war, destiny, and legacy.
