Chapter 4 - History of Dust: IV

Turns out, you need an ID to enter the City of Vale. Fortunately, I was able to get through with a simple lie, no magecraft needed.

"Here ya go, man. I've told the higher ups and you can come through. Just don't forget your scroll next time, kay?" Thank Akasha, that was quick.

"Thanks bro, appreciate it." So now here I was, wandering through the streets of Vale. The problem now was finding a place to stay, then a source of income.

I wonder if that castle in the distance is abandoned?

"Repeat that again, Qrow?" Ozpin stared at his scroll, perplexed. "A teenager did what?"

"He could have been a really short adult, but yeah, he vaporised almost the entire Grimm horde." He confirmed, taking a quick swig from his flask. "Then he just disappeared from my sight, dunno how, probably a semblance."

"So you potentially just let a valuable ally leave?" James frowned. "Seriously?"

"First of all, Tin Can, you weren't there. Second of all, I did ask him, but he literally disappeared. One second, standing there. Next, poof." Qrow started gesturing and waving his hands about. "Also had to take care of the stragglers, ya know?"

"Wait, one person by himself took down the Grimm horde? What kind of semblance did he have?" Lionheart questioned.

"That's the neat part, I couldn't tell. For all I know it could be one where he just deletes things from existence."

"Ahem." Ozpin quickly stopped the conversation from going off track. "Let's just focus on recruiting him for now. Qrow, you'll stay in Mistral to look for him. James, please alert your men to look out for him. Lionheart, please do the same."

"Understood." "Got it." "Sure."

Ozpin quickly closed the call and rubbed the bridge of his nose. Could that person be the source of the magical burst? Perhaps, but speculation won't solve anything for now.

He sighed and quickly took the elevator up to his office, only to have his heart drop when he finally returned.

His office, which held many valuable documents and information, was ransacked.

Immediately, he dialled Qrow again. "Change of plans. Get here as fast as possible. We got a problem."

Looks like that trip wasn't a waste of time after all. I grinned. At first, I was a bit bummed out. It was actually repurposed into a school, so it wasn't like I could live in it for free without looking like a creep.

But then I sensed it, magecraft. Holy shit, there's another magi here.

So I did what seemed best in my experience. Rob them.

Listen, it may seem crazy, but the last thing I want is to end up on the dissection table because I was too loose lipped with my world hopping status.

I didn't get too greedy either, avoiding the basement, where I would definitely get caught, even though there's a lot more signs of magecraft down there, in favor for the office in the clock. Can escape if needed.

There wasn't any mystic codes in there, unfortunately, so I still have no idea how magi here use their magecraft, but a lot of documents which I'm hoping could shed some light on the situation.

So now I'm hiding in a cheap hotel skimming these documents. The White Fang is apparently an extremist organisation, Atlas is a military oriented nation (for a second thought this was the Wandering Atlas Institute of this world), and the Black Queen, a magecraft user who has a vendetta against the person who wrote the document. Maybe the person who wrote this is the same person the drunk guy was talking about. Oz?

Nah, Oz is a highly experienced magi, would have set up at least a bounded field around the documents. Maybe I stole this from one of his agents?

Huh, maybe Oz and the Black Queen are the Merlin and Morgan Le Fay of this world…

Nah. This Oz couldn't possibly compare to the legendary Magus of Flowers.
