Chapter 16 - You were the one who joked with me first.

At Lin Fan's command, the Mongoose-class war hound sprang over the wall, its steel jaws wide open. In a single second, a burst of flames engulfed the burly men attacking the farm!

Screams erupted as five human torches appeared in an instant!

The flames, hot enough to melt steel, consumed everything.

In less than thirty seconds, the raiders were completely erased from existence.

As the gates of the farm swung open, Lin Fan walked out coldly, heading toward Yu Lin and Sun Dayou, the only survivors in the distance.

At that moment, the two of them were nearly scared senseless, their bodies trembling. The way they looked at Lin Fan was as if a terrifying demon king was approaching them!

This attack had been proposed by Yu Lin and orchestrated by Sun Dayou.

But they had never imagined that Lin Fan's farm would possess such terrifying defense capabilities—something far beyond their comprehension!

Watching those attackers be incinerated without leaving a trace, Yu Lin and Sun Dayou completely panicked.

Their teeth chattered involuntarily, producing a rhythmic "da-da-da" sound.

"Ah!" Finally, Yu Lin couldn't hold back her fear. She screamed, turned, yanked open a car door, jumped in, locked it tightly, and curled up between the seats, trembling in terror!

Sun Dayou, realizing things had gone terribly wrong, began waddling toward another vehicle with his fat legs.

As long as he made it to the driver's seat and started the engine, he didn't believe Lin Fan could catch up to four wheels with just his two legs!

It was true that Lin Fan couldn't catch up to a moving vehicle. Even though his physical strength now exceeded that of an average human, it still couldn't compare to the power of machinery. But Sun Dayou forgot one crucial thing—Lin Fan might not outrun a vehicle, but he could definitely outrun him.

Panting and running desperately, Sun Dayou suddenly felt a colossal force slam into him!

Lin Fan had caught up and kicked him hard!

Thud!

The 180-pound Sun Dayou was kicked three to four meters through the air, slamming into a truck door, leaving a massive dent in the metal!

Wracked with pain throughout his body, blood oozing from his nose and mouth, Sun Dayou curled up like a dead dog, clutching his head and wailing, "Don't kill me! I'll give you money—everything I have!"

The horrific deaths of the attackers had left a deep psychological trauma on him—he was now utterly terrified.

But Lin Fan felt not a shred of pity.

A man like Sun Dayou—twisted inside like a maggot.

Had it not been for the Mongoose defender at the farm, the walls might've been breached, and those thugs would've stormed into the main house by now…

Once they began their violence, all boundaries would be shattered. After looting the food, they might even torture and murder Lin Fan and his sister…

The thought alone filled Lin Fan with a deep, burning rage.

Crack!

Lin Fan stomped down on Sun Dayou's left arm. The sound of bones shattering followed.

"Ahhh!" Sun Dayou screamed in agony, writhing in pain.

"Please, Li Da-ye, spare me! I was blinded by greed! I'll compensate you—however much you want!" he begged repeatedly.

Before the apocalypse, he had been a vice president at a company—a man of status. He had never been treated like this!

But Lin Fan didn't care who he was before!

This was the Age of Ruin. The old order and civilization were crumbling. Only power meant anything now. Anyone who dared to harm him—he would destroy.

"If it had been you who broke into the farm, and my sister and I were on our knees, would you have spared us?" Lin Fan asked calmly, lips curled in a slight smile.

No!

Of course not!

"I…" Sun Dayou's forehead twitched violently. Suddenly, a vicious look flashed across his face. He reached into his coat and pulled out a dagger, lunging toward Lin Fan's throat with a scream: "Die!"

But Lin Fan was faster. He grabbed Sun Dayou's wrist mid-strike and crushed it, forcing him to drop the dagger. Then, without a word, Lin Fan took the blade and stabbed downward.

Shlick!

Sun Dayou's body shuddered before collapsing lifelessly to the ground.

Yu Lin, trembling in the car, didn't know how to start the engine. All she could do was curl up like a quail, foolishly hoping the tight space would somehow protect her.

Moments later, the screams outside faded.

She sat up cautiously, forcing herself to peek out the window.

Suddenly, Lin Fan's face appeared outside the glass, a smear of blood on his forehead, expressionless as he stared directly at her.

Their eyes met instantly!

"Ahhh!" Yu Lin's mind went blank, her fear overflowing as her piercing scream echoed into the sky!

Thud!

Thud!

Thud!

The stare didn't last long—Lin Fan had started smashing the window with his elbow!

The window glass of a regular truck wasn't very strong. After three strikes, spiderweb-like cracks spread across it.

Crash!

With a dull thud, the window finally shattered.

Without emotion, Lin Fan reached inside, grabbed Yu Lin by the hair, and dragged her out through the broken window.

Shards of glass sliced her skin, but her terror far outweighed the physical pain.

"Tiannan! Tiannan, listen to me! I was forced into it... it was Sun Dayou! I was a victim too! I was wrong! Please, give me another chance!" Yu Lin cried, trying to invoke the past. "Don't you remember? We were so in love! You said you'd always forgive and protect me…"

"Yes! I'll come back to you right now—we can start over! I still love you, Tiannan!"

Yu Lin pleaded with a trembling voice.

Lin Fan suddenly smiled and nodded, saying, "Not only will I spare you, I'll marry you. I'll share everything I have with you."

Yu Lin froze, stunned by the sudden hope, and stammered, "Ti… Tiannan, you're not joking, right?"

"You were the one who joked first," Lin Fan said, spreading his hands slightly, a sharp glint in his eyes as he looked at the woman he had once wanted to marry.

He never imagined she could be so vicious.

She had hidden it well—he hadn't seen a thing before!

"Yu Lin, I don't owe you anything. In fact, you owe me… Let me tell you—some mistakes in life can be made many times. But others—you can't even make once. If you do, there's no forgiveness—only consequences." Lin Fan looked at her coldly. "Are you ready to face your punishment?"

Yu Lin's pupils contracted sharply, despair flooding her eyes.

One day later.

"Chief, here's the latest missing persons report…"

In the South City Military Police Bureau, a young officer handed a file to the police chief.

"Sun Dayou, Yu Lin, Li De…" the chief read off names while slurping instant noodles, then tossed the file aside in frustration. "We've got over 500 people missing or dead every day. I haven't slept in days… just archive it—we'll deal with it when we can."

The young officer nodded, then glanced at the chief's meal and grumbled, "Instant noodles again?"

"Be glad we still have food," the chief sighed, looking out the window at the gloomy sky. "At this rate, in a month, we won't even have instant noodles—just sit around waiting to die…"
