After the death of the ogre, Dough looks around himself but he could not find either Enri or John.
'They must have ran away,' He thought, not really blaming them. As he looks at the ogre body one more time, he realizes that for some reason, he is extremely calm right now. He doesn't feel sadness, anger, or joy, just pure detachment and an observational view of everything. He wonders if he should go to E-Rantel or go back to the village.
Before he could decide, he heard shouting in the distance along with distant footstep sounds.
"OVER HERE!! COME QUICK!! DOUGH MIGHT STILL BE ALIVE!!" Shouted a person who sounded suspiciously like John.
As Dough looks toward the direction of the village, which he can't see of course since its further away, he spots a mob of villagers with pitchforks, shabby spears, and torches running towards him.
As John approaches Dough, he stops a few meters away from him, catching his breath. Dough stayed quiet, letting the man time to recover.
"I'm so glad you're ok, Dough," John proclaimed. He then said," I'm really sorry for leaving you to fight that Ogre by yourself. I thought that even if both of us were to fight that beast, we would still die, so I picked up Enri and got whoever I could find back in the village to come and save you."
John then repeatedly apologizes to Dough over and over again. Dough said," It was fine." Not really expanding on it. With the recent battle, Dough's mentally temporally changed, at least for an hour, and he became less talkative. He doesn't really mind that John ran, he understands that John was afraid for more than his life. He also had a daughter that he must raise and protect. Even if John ran and never came back with help, he would accept it because it is just in a living being's nature to preserve their life. If he were to do that though, he might not talk to John ever again. But right now, he forgiven John, even if John has not realized it yet.
As John was still trying to earn Dough's forgiveness, the villagers were surrounding the Ogre, checking if it was still alive.
"Did the young man really do this?"
"What monstrous strength, he might even rival those high ranked adventures we heard about!"
"Both the eyes are completely smushed," one villager said as he lifted up the eyelids of the Ogre.
"Next time we go to E-Rantel to sell our excess crops, we could bring this Ogre's ear as proof of the kill and sell it. I heard that the adventures guild accepts monster body parts for coins. Of course, that young man will get all the money out of the transaction since he slayed the Ogre," said a villager who the others seem to respect with the way they all looked toward him when he talked.
After a villager cut the Ogre ear and hands it to Dough, they then travel back towards the village, with John still apologizing to Dough along the way. After realizing that John won't stop apologizing, Dough made it clear that he forgives him, but John did not fully buy it. He still vows to one day make it up to Dough, even if it cost him his life.
While on the way back, John was holding onto the Ogre's ear, trying to figure out if he had other functions of the system beyond just the leveling.
"Observe," Dough quietly muttered, though nothing happens.
He then tried to picture an inventory, whatever that looks like, and the ear in his hand disappeared.
{Author's note: I think every player has an inventory that they can access in the new world still, even if they are level 1}
When he tries to retrieve the ear, he imagines it, and his hand disappear into a black void and he grabs the ear, putting it back in his hand. None of the villager noticed since he is at the back of the group with John slightly in front of him, but he seems oblivious.
When they reached the hill and were going down it towards the village, there was another group of villagers waiting toward the beginning of the village.
When they came near the other group, they started to ask about the ogre and what happen to it. While that was happening, a little ball of brown crashed into Dough's leg, hugging him tightly.
"I'm so glad you made it back safe, Dough. Sorry for leaving you behind," Enri muttered, trying to contain her voice and seems like she's going to cry.
Emotions appeared again in Dough's body, feeling grateful for this little angel that was worried about him. She is such a kind soul. He assured her it was fine and that he forgives her, ruffling her hair while he said that. He will make sure she ends up with that boy in the city who he forgot the name of. But first...
"Enri, do you know anyone outside this village?" Dough asked.
Enri replied," No, I have lived my whole life in this village. I have never gone to big cities like E-Rantel, though I hope dad brings me along next time."
"I'll help ask your dad to bring you along next time. After all, he does owe me a favor now," Dough proclaim while he grins, already imagining his master plan. This must be what those aunts feel when they are match making couples for the children.
{Author's note: I've just seen it in anime ok? The aunt thing. I've never seen it myself, but I do like matching people together}
