Chapter 1 - The Promise

"What do you want to become in the future?"

A teacher in a yellow dress standing in front of a couple of students in a small classroom spoke out. The teacher had a reading glass on her face, as well as a smile.

"Who wants to go first?" she asked, while she began walking along the space in between the students.

As the teacher moved, the classroom was silent, since everyone refused to talk. The class was filled with grade schoolers, each at the age ranging from eight to ten. They had pale expressions while refusing to talk.

"Okay. If no one wants to go first, then I'd have to pick someone myself." The teacher uttered, trying to stir the student in talking. But it still didn't work.

"Then, how about our class rep, go first."

At this point, the teacher stood at the front of the class and pointed at a boy wearing a red jacket. He was around ten years, as he looked way older than most of his peers.

The boy stood up, with shimmering brown hair, blue eyes, with a sharp sense of authority. He didn't flinch or give any signs of weakness. Instead, he stood with his hands tucked into the pocket of his jacket.

"I want to become a business owner." The boy uttered firmly without feeling nervous.

He was the class representative so there was no way he would have any nervousness in him. He was in a position that required a smart and intelligent mindset.

Although, the reason why he didn't speak up first earlier, was because he wanted to see what his classmates had in their minds, especially one.

"Oh, that's good. And what kind of business would you like to own?" the teacher asked, curious about what was going to come out of a smart kid like him.

"A hotel owner. I would like to build my own hotel and manage it."

Immediately after hearing this, the whole class became murmuring. They were all baffled by the huge business he called out. Most people would say they wanted to become a doctor, a pilot or own a small business. However, his own goal was far from that .

"Oh! a hotel owner huh? I am impressed. Work hard enough, and in time you will reach your dream." The teacher spoke like a teacher would, and gave him the usual word of advice, but in his own mind, he had already started his journey.

"Okay then. Is there anyone else who would like to share their big dream with us?"

At this point, the boy had already sat down on his chair, and had his attention on a certain someone. It was a girl, two years younger than him.

He had never spoken to her before, but he had always had his eye on her. Almost like he had a crush.

Little kids nowadays.

All these were going on inside the teacher's head. Since she had been staring at him since he sat down.

And now, seeing the girl he had his attention on, it gave the teacher an idea of who to call on next.

"No one? Okay, how about our second best student in the class." The teacher pointed at the girl that the boy was staring at, and immediately she stood without hesitation, as if she was expecting the call.

"Can you tell us what you would like to become in the future… Elly?'

Elly, who was the girl that had just been called on, came out to the front of her seat just like the boy did. With black hair, brown eyes, and a very cute and adorable face, she stood unflustered with the whole class gaze fixed on her, especially one who felt like they were using a space scope.

"I want to become a Flight attendant." she spoke with a calm tone.

As the words left her, the whole class went silent. It became the opposite of how it was for the boy earlier. This silence made Elly feel as though she had just said something wrong.

"Um… I said I want to become a Flight attendant." She repeated, making sure she was heard.

"Yes, I heard you the first time." The teacher replied with a disturbed expression. "Although, I must say. Being an flight attendant isn't an actual career path. It is more like a side job."

As soon as the teacher said this, the whole class burst into laughter, except for the boy. They all made jest of what she had just chosen, but none of that made her unfazed, as she returned to her seat.

As the whole class laughed, the teacher also followed but kept it cool since she was a teacher.

At this point, everyone but the boy was all laughing their brains out. Instead of joining them, the boy stared at Elly as if he had found some kind of hidden potential in her.

The jest and murmur continued for a while, until the teacher made a cease to it. But Elly didn't feel a bit embarrassed about what she had chosen, after all it was her own path and not theirs.

After this, the class became lively and other students began to speak on their career part one after the other, and before it was known, the time for school had closed.

_

Elly found her way home. She lived with her parents at this time. She was the only child they had, which meant they pampered her to the core. They bought her fancy lady-like dresses, although she wasn't interested in them at all, instead she was more interested in the male kind of things.

With this attraction, she began dressing more like a male than that of a lady. It continued for a while which made her parents start worrying about her well being.

They even took her to a doctor to check if she had some kind of mental issues, but they were left with a result that she was totally fine and wasn't under any mental issues.

Although, this didn't make them feel any less at ease, since her attitude didn't change at all. Elly continued acting like a boy even earning the nickname Elly the tomboy.

Until one very day, when she went out to play in the park. She didn't have any friends because of her attitude, although she managed to get one.

On a faithful evening while she was on her own making herself a house with the sand in the park, a couple of kids who were all boys walked up to her and destroyed her castle.

They made fun of her for acting as a tomboy that it almost got to the point where they were about to hit her, however they were stopped by a voice.

It was the boy from her class, the one who wanted to become the owner of a hotel. The boy chased the other kids away since he was much older than they were.

..

"Are you okay?" he asked, while stretching his hand to pick up Elly who was covered in sand. To her, he was an angel sent from heaven.

"Y-Yes, I am, thank you very much." Elly stuttered, while she got up with his assistance.

"Hope you are not injured?" he asked, looking all worried.

But, Elly who was indeed injured in her leg, tried to cover it with her other leg and act as if she wasn't.

"No, I am not." She uttered the lie straight to his face.

However, he wasn't tricked. He could obviously tell she was lying from the way she was standing, with one leg crossed over the other.

"Let me see." he said, while he bent down to her leg and held the one that was injured.

"You are injured."

As he grabbed her legs, Elly felt a bit awkward, since it was the first time a boy had ever touched her. It made her belly tingle, and for the first time she felt like she was a girl.

Immediately, the boy brought out a tiny first aid from the bag he was holding, which made Elly a bit shocked. It was though he had planned this.

"Stand still," hr ordered. "it is a small injury on your ankle, but if you don't treat it on time, it might become worse."

While he said this, he began disinfecting her injury and after covered it with a bandage. However, Elly didn't even listen to a word he was saying since she was already in another word.

"Right. All done."

The boy stood up and faced Elly who was already flustered.

"Try and see if you can walk." he said with a calm tone.

Although, Elly didn't move, she was lost in words and just stared at him. This made the boy feel a bit confused before stretching his hand.

"I'm Timmy, figured we don't know each other's names even though we are in the same grade."

With his hand hanging, Elly stared at it for a moment before shaking him.

"Y-You can call me Elly." she stuttered.

_

After that, Elly and Timmy became friends and began spending most of their time together.

They found out that they lived not far from each other, which made it easier to meet themselves.

This continued for a while, until a certain a day. It was a sad day for both of them, because Timmy was moving out.

This broke Elly's heart, as she stood at the front of his house the day he was moving out.

It had been three years since they became friends and now they were not going to see each other again.

"It's okay… Elly" Timmy uttered, while he tried to calm her, as tears filled her eyes.

"B-But it is not fair. Why do you have to go now?"

It was a sad moment for Elly, because she had just started to find her feminine side. For the time she was with Timmy, her tomboy side left her and she began dressing more like a girl.

"Don't worry, it will all be fine."

Timmy who was unfazed by it all this, tried is best to stop her from crying. Although it didn't seem to have any effects.

"Okay, how about this. I will come back for you. No matter how long it might take, I would come back for you."

This statement, made Elly to clam down, while she stared at him with tears in her eyes.

They both had a strong concussion with each other, although they were still kids and didn't say it with words, but they know it in their hearts.

"Promise?" She mumbled, trying to confirm his words.

"Yes. I promise." Timmy assured her.

"And you wouldn't go back on your words?" Elly tried to confirm againm

"Of course not, El. When have I ever lied to you."

Timmy said these words with his eyes filled with sincerity, certainty, and a slight smile on his face.

"Sobs… Okay."

After this, Timmy entered the vehicle and immediately it started moving.

Meanwhile, Elly stood as she saw the vehicle leave, and all that was going on in her head was a repetition of what he just said to her.

"I will come back for you."

"I will come back for you."
