Chapter 49 - Shaping the Absence

The remnants of the Shard Walkers caught in Einar's Void wave crumbled into fine obsidian dust, the lingering crimson energy dissolving into the crimson-tinged air.

The wave had carved a temporary clearing in the relentless swarm, giving Zephyr's strained Radiant Flow ward a much-needed respite.

Lyra, recovering quickly from her surprise, projected a sharp, focused command.

"Einar! Focus! Can you replicate that?"

Einar, still feeling the immense drain but also the potent potential of that wave, nodded, his spiritual form shimmering slightly with exertion.

He reached for the Void again, this time with a clearer intent to shape it, to direct its annihilating power with more precision.

He visualized the wave again, but this time, he focused on creating tendrils of pure absence, like invisible whips lashing out at the remaining Shard Walkers.

With a mental exertion, he unleashed this more controlled form of Void energy.

Thin, black lines of nothingness lashed out, striking several Shard Walkers.

Where the Void tendrils touched, the crimson energy sputtered and died, and portions of their obsidian forms simply… vanished, leaving gaping holes in their structure.

The creatures staggered and collapsed, their grating screeches cut short.

"That's it!" Zephyr projected, his orange light burning brighter with renewed hope.

"Void whips! Nice one, Einar!" He unleashed a powerful blast of Radiant Flow at the nearest cluster of Shard Walkers, his energy now meeting less resistance.

Lyra, ever efficient, capitalized on the openings Einar created, her white lightblade flashing with deadly accuracy, cleaving through the weakened forms of the obsidian creatures.

The tide of the battle had definitely turned, the Soul Wardens now taking a more proactive stance against the swarm.

The Obsidian Weaver, their masked head tilted slightly, observed Einar's display of his evolving power.

The blue lines of their eyes seemed to glow a fraction brighter, as if in silent acknowledgement.

Despite the effectiveness of Einar's new ability, the number of Shard Walkers emerging from the fissure showed no signs of diminishing.

The ground continued to tremble, and the grating screeches echoed across the scarred landscape.

"They keep coming!" Zephyr projected, still maintaining his perimeter ward but now also actively launching blasts of Radiant Flow.

"We need to find the source of their emergence," Lyra projected, deflecting a swipe from a particularly large Shard Walker.

"This is more than just a random surge of corrupted energy."

Einar, while unleashing another volley of Void tendrils, focused his Void sense towards the fissure from which the creatures were pouring.

Beneath the raw Void energy that animated them, he sensed a deeper resonance, a connection to the ancient power the Obsidian Weaver had spoken of.

It was as if Gorok's influence was twisting that dormant energy, birthing these corrupted obsidian creatures.

The key to stopping the swarm, he realized, might lie in severing that connection at its source.
