Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Troublesome Marines

How could they rescue the enslaved captives and ensure a safe retreat?

Before issuing the mission, Nawaki had pondered this very question and even compared it with the method Fisher Tiger had used in another timeline.

The idea was to strike while most of the Marine Admirals and Vice Admirals were away on missions. First, ignite scattered fires within Mariejois to create widespread chaos. Then, infiltrate the main castle during the confusion, and while the Marines were still busy handling the blaze outside, escort the slaves out using pre-planned escape routes.

It was one of Nawaki's most reliable and safest proposed methods.

So why didn't Tsunade and the others do the same? Was it simply that they lacked foresight?

Not exactly. Perhaps Tsunade had initially considered such a plan—but after encountering that Celestial Dragon, she completely threw it aside.

That was the illusion created by the first two Main Missions issued by the Lord God System.

In the beginning, when Nawaki had just established himself, the missions he issued were indeed relatively easy—practically freebies.

After breezing through the first two missions, Tsunade had begun to unconsciously underestimate the Lord God's tasks. Though she still held a cautious respect for the system, somewhere deep down, she had started to view the missions as not much of a threat.

They weren't that difficult, were they? She had gained points effortlessly.

And especially after defeating Hanzo—the Legendary Shinobi—her confidence had clearly inflated.

Orochimaru was no different, though his thinking was more calculated.

He knew that missions were evaluated afterward. If they rescued the slaves with maximum efficiency, wouldn't their evaluation be even higher?

That was why Orochimaru chose not to waste time on excessive planning.

In the end, they fell right into Nawaki's "trap."

"Heh, did you really think I gave you three whole days for Main Mission I just so you could dawdle? If you insist on clearing the mission in an hour or two, then don't blame me when the difficulty for Mission II spikes through the roof."

Nawaki sneered coldly.

There must be rules, or there would be chaos.

Even if his sister was part of the team, Nawaki didn't intend to let personal feelings influence the difficulty settings of the Lord God missions.

At worst, if Tsunade was in genuine danger, he could pull her out of the Reincarnation World and wipe her memory of the Lord God System. No big deal.

Meanwhile—

"Is there anyone here with a Devil Fruit ability or at least decent combat skills? We'll be leaving soon, and we need to work together!"

Tsunade called out boldly within the prison block.

Of the three Sannin, she was the most charismatic. Naturally, the task of rallying the slaves fell on her shoulders.

After a brief silence, the red-skinned Fish-Man from earlier—Fisher Tiger—stepped forward, gripping a sword he had seized from a fallen guard.

"I can still fight. I hope I'll be of use."

Tsunade nodded approvingly. Once Fisher Tiger made the first move, over forty more stepped out.

Most of them were Fish-Men, who naturally possessed ten times the strength of a human. With even minimal martial arts training, their combat abilities skyrocketed.

Several had just been unshackled from Seastone cuffs—they were Devil Fruit users.

As for the enslaved giants, they were kept in separate quarters.

Tsunade's gaze swept over the Devil Fruit users.

Three were young women. One looked about fourteen or fifteen and already possessed a dangerously captivating charm, drawing attention like a magnet. The other two, however… were, frankly, bizarrely shaped.

"Love-Love Fruit, Snake-Snake Fruit(Python), Snake-Snake Fruit(King Cobra)..."

In addition to them, there were a few with Paramecia and Zoan-type abilities.

"We'll handle the strongest enemies. Your job is to protect the others. Have those familiar with the escape routes lead the way—the closer, the better!"

Tsunade emphasized.

Everyone nodded. Though they found it strange that someone who'd come from outside needed a guide, they didn't ask questions.

There was no time to waste. Orochimaru quickly formed hand signs and pressed both hands to the wall.

"Earth Style: Rock Collapse!"

The jutsu activated. A wall over ten meters high cracked instantly under Orochimaru's chakra.

In the blink of an eye, it shattered into countless chunks of rubble, revealing a passage behind it.

"Let's move."

Orochimaru said coolly, dashing ahead.

Only a fool would take the front gate. Anyone with half a brain knew it would be heavily guarded by now.

The slaves had no time to marvel at such incredible abilities. They scrambled to follow in a rush.

The group continued blasting through wall after wall, attempting a straight-line escape through the Mariejois fortress.

Just then—a voice filled with rage echoed around them.

"You bastards!! How dare you destroy the walls of Holy Mariejois! Unforgivable!"

The furious roar had barely faded when a sharp boom erupted.

In a flash, a figure appeared directly in front of Orochimaru.

"That speed…"

Orochimaru's pupils narrowed slightly. Even with his Kage-level strength, he could only barely follow the enemy's movements.

Rokushiki: Soru!

Ten or more lightning-fast steps executed in a single moment—a burst movement so fast it was almost invisible to the naked eye.

Though impressive, it wasn't enough to completely overwhelm Orochimaru. After all, ninja in the Naruto world were known for incredible speed too.

Even a Chūnin's movements could blur to normal eyes—Kage-level shinobi far surpassed that.

But Soru's explosive acceleration was still faster in the instant burst.

"Die!"

The Marine's coat billowed behind him as he swung down with a narrow-bladed sword.

In that instant, Orochimaru was split cleanly in two.

Dead that easily!?

The slaves widened their eyes in shock, about to cry out—until they saw Orochimaru's halved body melt into a puddle of sludge.

"A Logia-type Devil Fruit user? Damn it! I didn't bring any Seastone weapons…"

The Marine was stunned. A trace of panic crept into his eyes.

He hadn't mastered Armament Haki and had no way to hurt a Logia user!

At that moment, pain seared through his shoulder, and his body went limp.

He turned in horror—only to see that very same man, the one he'd just "killed," latched onto his neck, draining his blood.

With a chilling crack, his neck snapped.

"What was that Marine's rank?"

Orochimaru wiped the blood from his lips, his expression cold as he asked one of the nearby slaves.

"Co-Colonel!" a human slave stammered.

The faces of the Three Sannin all turned grim.

They had studied Marine rankings beforehand so they knew that it wasn't something to laugh about.

If Orochimaru hadn't fooled him with a mud clone and taken the chance to kill him, that burst-speed could've stalled even a Kage-level fighter.

This was Holy Mariejois—the headquarters of the World Government.

There was no shortage of powerful Marines here.
