Caleb knew he had to make a change in his life and went straight to his father's study once he woke up.
He had to understand the language being spoken to him because he had no idea what was being said, but it was forbidden to go into his father's study.
Everything he needed to learn was in the small library erected in one of the vacant rooms.
Caleb knew he had to be careful, and this was why he waited until Eileen went out.
She was his caretaker but also had a life outside of taking care of him.
If a woman stayed indoors 24/7 and still somehow managed to earn a sufficient amount of money to take care of a boy alongside groceries, there would be questions.
There was no way the nosey neighbours wouldn't snoop around, and this was the last thing they needed.
However, Caleb offered to help with the bills, but Eileen shut him down. She couldn't use her magic or the church would find her location, but there were other means of making money.
Eileen was a beautiful woman, and finding work as a waitress—alongside Luke's financial support—it was easy to maintain the household.
Caleb went to get something to eat, but to his surprise, someone was approaching the pavement.
Caleb saw it was his girlfriend, Kathy and instantly relaxed because this was a face he liked to see.
Kathy and he began dating a few years back, even though they only became official recently.
Caleb had a crush on her for quite some time, but so did Kathy. It was hard not to consider how good they both looked.
It was only natural for a mutual attraction to exist.
"Hey, handsome," Kathy began the conversation, walking up the stairs to meet him, and Caleb just stood there with a wide smile on his face.
"Hey, Kathy," Caleb responded, but the slight change in her facial expression forced him to clear his throat anxiously before correcting himself.
"I-I meant to say… hey to the most beautiful lady in the universe," Caleb said with an awkward smile.
"You bet you I am," Kathy said before wrapping her arms around him and planting a firm kiss on his lips.
It was already well into the evening, as the clock was ticking towards 6 PM at an astounding rate. But Kathy's parents liked Caleb, so they had no problem with their daughter spending time at his place.
He was a star athlete with a bright future ahead of him, and should things continue on this trajectory, then it was only a matter of time before he became a professional.
Even though this was part of the reason—because he had too much to lose—Caleb was a good boy that everyone he met liked.
Kathy and Caleb made their way into the house, and this was something he looked forward to all day.
This was when they had their alone time, and it kept the relationship healthy because there were couples who spent every waking second together.
They gave each other no time to regulate, but these two had it right.
Kathy got into the house and went straight to the kitchen to make something for both of them.
"Hey! Get in here! You need to learn how to cook," Kathy called out to Caleb.
He walked into the kitchen, but the truth was she just liked the company because cooking was one skill Caleb severely lacked.
There was no saving him, but watching Kathy cook was something he grew to appreciate.
They spoke about their day, and then he entered listening mode as she yapped about basically everything.
Time flew by, and before he knew it, it was 6:20, and the food was just getting done.
Caleb loved the aroma oozing from the pot, and it made his heart flutter.
"I didn't even know food could smell this good," Caleb complimented her with a smile.
"It is my speciality," Kathy said, but the thing about her cooking was that she measured everything right down to the nutrients.
Caleb saw a meal he wouldn't mind having, but Kathy was practising abstinence, which in turn allowed Caleb to focus on other things outside sex.
He channelled all his energy into his basketball life, but Kathy could tell he was distracted.
"The same dream?" Kathy asked, and Caleb nodded, glad he didn't need to verbally say it before she caught on.
"Have you considered seeing a therapist?" Kathy asked, stroking his back lovingly to show she was going to support him.
Caleb knew a therapist might be the way to go, but this would only confirm what he was scared to admit to himself.
"No, I don't think that's a good idea…" Caleb responded, pausing briefly as he recollected his thoughts.
"I just need time to think," Caleb added, and that was the end of the conversation.
She didn't try to push the situation, as she wasn't an expert in mental health.
All she could do right now was let him know she was there for him.
Despite her academic achievement, Kathy took extra care of her body, even joining the cheerleading team because she would never get tired of cheering her boyfriend.
"Do you need me to leave?" Kathy questioned.
"No! You can stay, I want you to stay…" Caleb quickly responded.
"Huh? What did you say?" Kathy questioned, which prompted Caleb to raise a brow.
"I said you can stay…" Caleb repeated, but the look on Kathy's face had more confusion than when he uttered the first words.
"Wow, I never knew you spoke a second language?" Kathy looked at Caleb with shock.
"What the hell…?" Caleb thought to himself.
