Philadelphia, downtown, 8:34 AM
A man stops by a newsstand to get some coffee and newspaper. He takes his time to finish his coffee and throws the paper cup in the back of his pickup truck before getting in. He starts the car and a man sits up at the back with the paper cup on his nose. He throws it away with a frown and curses Spanish words under his breath.
The notorious Mexican criminal, Diego Jose Torres Gonzalez. Wearing his old vest and coat that are just as dark as his goatee beard, with a white classic shirt. He's been wanted for so long for gun and drug dealing and stealing; hopefully he has turned thirty eight this year and still roaming freely.
His long slender fingers brush in his black slicked hair before wrapping around a marker and he opens the cap with his teeth, then brings it to the folded map in his other hand. He talks to himself as he draws a path. "This is where I got in… and here we are…"
The car turns right and He looks up the check the buildings. "yup that's the beauty salon." He hops off the car and straightens his coat before walking to the sidewalk. He knocks the door of the salon. A blonde woman opens. Brush in one hand and hair clips in the other. "Yeah?" She says, not friendly at all. He smiles and clears throat "Hello lady, hope you have a great day."
"Spit it." She says emotionless, brows knitting. "I'm looking for Sophie Frost; you must be…"
She is kind of surprised he knows her daughter. But doesn't flinch. "I'm her mother who is this?" Diego starts sweating. He's obviously not here to look for his 14-year-old apprentice in crime, she doesn't even attend any class so he can't be her teacher. He fakes a grin "A friend."
"Don't you seem too old to be her friend?" she rests her hands on her hips. "Don't you seem too young to be her mother?" He says in a low voice and grins when her eyes widen. "Uh uhm wh-why don't you come in?" she clumsily smiles, a shade of pink spreading on her cheeks.
"I'd love to but I'm in a rush can I borrow her for an hour?" He jabs a finger. She nodes and leaves to call her. He looks around and at the buildings. America is a beautiful place; such a shame he was running his whole life. If his plan works this time, he will finally leave free. Maybe get married and even have kids-
FUCK
He sucks in a breath when a police car following another car. Alright, let's be positive, they might be traffic cops. The police car speeds up and cuts it off, revealing the DEA logo.
His heart doesn't beat for a second and he panics, trying to find a hide out. He jumps behind a bush, near the staircase of beauty salon.
A few seconds later Sophie opens the door; her hair and clothes a mess, obviously working hard. She looks puzzled at first when she doesn't recognize people who pass by because it shouldn't be hard to find a 6'3" in such quiet place.
Diego notices her and signals with a hand. He almost loses his mind when she doesn't pay any attention towards him. "Psst!" He makes noises to gain her attention and when she finally does, she screams in excitement. "DiegO-" she hops down the stairs and towards him. He presses a finger to her lips to stop her. "Don't you yell out my name in public!" He removes it when he is sure she got it. She blushes in embarrassment and nods. "Sorry I just… didn't expect to see you again." She probably haven't seen the newspapers report about him escaping prison.
Diego gives an exaggerated smile because he feels guilty for yelling at her. "Well, nice to see you too." He then sighs. "Police controls the borders, turns out I can't go back to my home in Mexico without a… r-releasssse form." He uses his fingers to make air quotes, stuttering when he pronounces it.
"Uh I'm so sorry how can I help you? Do you need a disguise? O-or you um can stay here…?" Sophie tries to think like a criminal, what she is training to do.
Her father was a criminal just like Diego. But he wasn't so lucky, and got arrested when Sophie was only 9. So Diego decided to find them and after 2-3 years, he did. She asked him to teach her how to be as bad as him when she works as a hairstylist as a cover up.
"I can't stay anywhere, it's dangerous. Now stop chattering and go pack your stuff." He pushes her but she resists to leave. "What? Where are we going?" He combs his fingers in his hair arrogantly, face twisting when he pulls out a small branch that probably fell from the bushes. "Las vegas."
Her eyes grow big and stomps feet. Diego's lips curve into a small smile, happy to see her happy. "I LOVE Las Vegas!" She stops cheering and squints.
"But… I heard it's expensive." Her face falls, eyes sad and nervous. He smiles manically. "Oh my child." He jabs a finger at her nose and her pupils widen in curiosity. "There are no worries to elite thieves when..." He opens his coat, revealing cash in his belt and hidden pocket. "…they know how to steal"
Her eyes sparkle, ambitious to learn everything already. "You are awesome!" She looks at him like he is a fallen angel or something. His heart melts, he has never been praised for being himself. A smile spreads across his face.
If anyone dares to take her from him…
