Chapter 41 - 72

Chapter 72: Hello guys

"It's been two days now and nothing has happened," Vaelith Shouyn, commander and captain of the Academy security, said with a twist to her lips.

She sat beside Darius Faulkner in a room inside the training center. Different projections of the training center and the room that Severin was using flickered in the air around them.

Darius shifted, his face pulled into a nasty frown. At first, he ignored her before he shook his head. "Everything is turning into something that I find very irritating."

Darius Faulkner didn't like to wait. He wasn't a patient hunter, and yet he'd been forced into waiting.

Vaelith shifted. "I thought the boy had something planned, a way to lure the culprit in maybe? But it's the night of the second day and still nothing."

Although they were waiting and watching Severin and his group, outside was tense, as the Academy had issued a curfew, and the security guards were combing every inch while the instructors took to the Field Zone.

All in all, the issues, the attack on the Academy had turned into a big slap on their faces. Now that the public was aware of the kidnappings, the Academy was finally trying to solve the problem.

And all of it fell into Darius's lap. He was called the Head Instructor, but his job was more than that because he was the one who oversaw the day-to-day and made sure every gear moved as it should.

His one eye gleamed strangely as he watched the projection. "At least it's refreshing to see students train like they should. Nowadays, most students are always after the most flamboyant techniques instead of building their skills solidly."

Vaelith nodded. "That one... Severin. He's really strange. He's powerless, and yet he's making others strong."

Darius only grunted. "He's powerless?"

He did not believe that Severin was powerless. One thing Darius had learned in his life was that the eyes don't tell lies. They lead and reflect the heart, and Severin's eyes burned with such coldness that was so opposite of flame and yet not weaker.

"I want to see if he has what it actually takes, or if he's just a fluke that will be gutted into death."

Vaelith looked at Severin in the projection with pity. She was a graduated student of the Academy, and she knew when Darius had such a look in his eye, it meant he had gotten himself a new toy to play with.

And of all the toys that he played with, only a few truly broke without getting destroyed.

"He's not the strong type, Darius. He's not fit to be your toy," Vaelith said.

Darius snorted. "Ice snake. That is what he is. I will peel his skin to know if he carries the bloodline of those ancient ice monsters."

Vaelith didn't speak anymore. The only thing she felt was a faint pity for the already dead Severin because Darius had his eyes on him.

"Come to think of it, he's so powerless, and yet everything that has happened around him are storms that should have swept him away, but have failed to do so, and he's like a..."

Suddenly, she stopped speaking.

Because from the projection, at the same time, they saw something in the lobby and hallway of the training center.

Lightning sparked, and things were directly teleported into the building.

Those things were small metal balls, etched with different runes that glowed faintly.

Vaelith's eyes widened, and she cursed. "Explosives!"

And the next second, the explosions went off.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

The projections flickered and died.

But they could hear the sound in the room they were staying in. The room shook, and the light flickered as if it would go off.

"Someone's messing with the training center's central formation," Vaelith muttered. She raised her hand, and a small blue orb of light appeared.

Even as she was creating the light, she was swinging toward the door. "We have to get to those kids."

Darius didn't say anything. His body was instantly covered in black lightning that made the space around him sizzle. He took a single step forward, and he was gone, blurring so fast even his afterimages seemed to be standing still for a while.

Vaelith scowled. "I guess that works too."

She took a deep breath and spoke into the equipment attached to her collar, barking orders to her men on how they should proceed next.

The explosion was confined to the outside of the training rooms. The whole building had a formation that worked against unauthorized teleportation, but it was harder to get into the training rooms because of the extra precautions.

That was why, when the explosions happened, they only heard the sound, but nothing happened to them inside.

"What the fuck." Derrick was on his feet in an instant.

Ethan, not too far beside him, eyes wide and hands clenched.

Although they'd been covering up with training, all of them were filled with weariness at that point, waiting to be attacked by some murderer.

So, they were almost glad that it was happening.

"He's here." Severin stood as well, his hand on his sword.

Then the light in the room flickered.

Bam. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Something heavy slammed into their door. The heavy metal bent inward, and then the different runes on it creaked and sparked, popping like balloons.

The group moved into a formation of their own will, Julius in the middle.

Ash flowed out of Serena like smoke and formed into a cage that followed them.

They didn't need to fight. Severin just wanted to stall and buy time for help to come. That was the main reason he hid in the training center in the first place, to make the enemy come to him and then get captured.

And he only did it because the culprit is the type of attention-seeking bastard.

Severin's hand tightened on his sword. It was the only thing he could think of that could work, since he didn't have the raw power to fight. He might as well take advantage.

"Be ready, guys," Julius muttered.

Their attention was entirely focused on the door, their shoulders tense, the entire room reeking of tension.

Severin frowned as his perception was triggered toward the small hole that appeared when the door was slammed. A hole that shouldn't fit a fat rat.

But.

He could feel that something was wrong.

Very wrong.

"Hello, guys," a voice said behind them.
