Chapter 2 - Trial of truth

With Anna gone from the room, Alex took a deep breath to sort out the rest information in his mind.

While sorting his memories orderly, he frown as he came across something. He quickly rampage through his robe and brought out a little vile holding a translucent blue liquid in it.

"So this is the stimulation portion ehnn" he didn't rush to take the portion, instead he observed it for a while. This world magic system is kind of unique, unlike a few things he has seen in movies or novels back on earth.

Here mage don't go about practicing magic spell and all that like it been depicted, instead the awaken a laten innate magical ability and then train that ability.

This little vile before him is the stimulation portion used to stimulate the mages talent and awakening their magic ability, it mostly a lifetime research of powerful mage to create

Saving new generations mage from going through the life and death stimulation to awaken their laten innate ability.

"What ability would I get" Alex ponder as he stare at the vile, he has no idea how the awakening work in this world. Especially when the previous owner of this body who is supposed to be the mage is dead and he is an alien invader.

Pondering over it for a while didn't yield any result, thus he decided to leave everything to fate. He pick up the vile and in one gulp down it all, nothing happened initially until he felt his head wobbing and his consciousness heavy.

If receiving information of his predecessor was like a thunderbolt going off in his mind, this time around it was like a thunderstorm unveiling deep within his consciousness.

His orifice oozing with blood and his contenance broke into a pale almost dead like look, his consciousness seemly pulled into his being as he arrived at a dark space he could barely see his own hands.

At that moment he could feel the working of his body, the effect of the portion Hammering at this separate space desperately, trying to force it way through.

Each collision a thunderous wave of pain, each hammering leaving cracks on the dark space brilliant light seems to be piercing through into the space.

He couldn't tell for how long due to the pain eating away his clarity, finally the pain seems to have come to an end with the final pieces of darkness dispairing, revealing a shimmering pool, barely larger than a birdbath in size, its surface reflecting the faintest starlight. the water so clear one can see how shallow the pool is from noticing it depth.

What piqued his interest more isn't the pool itself but the object floating above the mana sea, it's a stylish fancy looking codex grimorie.

This grimoire is bound in deep midnight blue leather, soft yet durable, with a subtle sheen that catches the light. The leather is embossed with intricate patterns resembling swirling waves

The cover features ornate silver filigree along the edges, creating a frame that enhances its elegance. At the center, a large, radiant sigil glows faintly

The sigil is a combination of a stylized eye and a star, a silver clasp, shaped like a crescent moon, secures the grimoire and when he thought of opening the grimorie, it emits a soft chime, reminiscent of distant bells, as if welcoming him into a realm of magic.

At the same time, information of his innate ability came to him natural like the steady flow of ancient sea. Alex suck in deep breath when he got the knowledge of what is ability is.

He couldn't wait to explore this ability but suddenly he felt so uncomfortable and a terrible stench pulled him out of his sea of consciousness only to find his body soothing with filth

"Arthur!" His father's voice started him, he didn't realize William had arrived his room, and by the side was Anna looking pale as if she just escaped death door

William on the other hand has tears gushing down his eyes like an unending flood, he still couldn't believe his son is sitting right in front of him.

.....

When he arrived here earlier, he saw Arthur lying on the floor with blood oozing off his orifice, his contenance pale and in a perilous state.

Been a master level warrior, he could tell from the manner gushing into Arthur's body that he was in the process of awakening, cope with the vile by his side

Everything became clear, his anticipation is for Arthur to get over it. He was worried sick because Arthur condition isn't at a peak state and the possibility of thing going south is more than75%

If he was here earlier, he wouldn't have allowed Arthur take the portion till he is certain he had regained his peak condition.

"What a reckless child" he muzz to himself while starring at the wound from the assassination that has miraculous heal.

His brain running like a tide trying to figure out how his son survived and returned from death, he hasn't giving him any life preserving artifact or item

Those this are pretty expensive and cost a fortune, even the royals wouldn't use them carelessly. Or did his son met a fruitious encounter?

No, it can't be is son body had been taken over, nothing in this world is impossible when it comes to magic. Taking over someone's else body or returning from the dead isn't impossible either

Lots of history books has this information, but if it's true his son had been taken over, how is he to address this issue

He was conflicted, with is son back, there is hope for the kaelon family lineage even if the person isn't truly a kaelon but if he reports this to the royal and magic association

They would de with this issue and his son would return to being dead and the lineage gone for good

He didn't know what to do, not to mention he didn't know if the person who took over his son body is a good person or bad, maybe worse he is even an outworldy.

While he was contemplating on this issue, Arthur woke up, having passed the ordeal and have breakthrough to the first stage of a mage.

...

"Arthur!" He called out with mixed feelings, not knowing how to address the situation. Tear gushing down his eyes hoping for the situation to be truly a miracle and nothing else.

"Father!" Arthur called out back with the same emotion running through him, he couldn't help but feel like this person before him is worth calling father as he reminded him of his own father.

Only now he realizes he still possess a soft soft for his father even in a new world, seeing the reluctant in William eyes and his motion of conflict

He resigned it to the fact it's quiet shocking to have return from the dead all of a sudden with no proper explanation.

Alex calm his mind down, look William straight in the eyes and with a collected voice spoke. "Father it's me, i survived and came back to live thank to the gift of a senior I encountered at the capital on my way home"

William brow frown, he couldn't confirm this from anyone since everyone that went with Arthur to the city died. He wasn't in haste to believe this story.

"Anna leave us" William command with heavy tone, startling the little maid as she hurriedly scurry out of the room.

William took a deep breath before focusing back on Arthur, "you can tell me the truth now expert, I don't care if you aren't my son

I just want to know the truth and understand if you are against the kaelon family?"

Alex frown, seems like I have to do more than looking genuine. He sigh within himself as he weigh the pron and cons of each choice.

He can simply accept the fact he isn't Arthur and live his life as he please as long as he isn't against the kaelon family, he could understand the angle William is coming from

He needs an heir to continue the kaelon family, and if he being one to steal the already dead Arthur body and came back to life bear this burden

Its a win-win for him, he has nothing to lose other than his already dead son, but if he want to fully embrace the identity of Arthur, he has to be convincing enough to fool Williams

Both options has it ups and downs, taking the identity of Arthur seems way more solid of an approach for future reasons.

"Father it's me, if you still doubt me then let's head for the magic association union in town to undertake the trail of truth"

William was taken back by this decision, if he take this approach it would confirm things easily and erased every doubt. This is a sure option to make it easy for him to just trust his son and bother not with the trail

But what if this was also part of this expert plan to suade him from the truth, thinking up to this point, he nodded in agreement.

"We will leave by dawn, before then I'll have to lock you in here if that's ok with you"

Alex nodded, seemly unbothered by this, it's much expected. With that William left his room, allowing him to go clean up.

He didn't forget to station two level five knights at Arthur's door, no matter how powerful an expert might be, taking over a new body would definitely take time to accumulate and regain his previous power level.
