My heart hammered against my ribs as I watched the battle unfold before me. From the relative safety of the storage room doorway, I could see Alaric fighting with renewed vigor, his movements fluid despite the blood staining his shirt and the obvious exhaustion on his face. Knowing I was here had given him strength, but would it be enough?
"We need to help them now," I said to Cassian, who stood protectively nearby. "I can't just hide in here while my husband fights for his life."
Cassian's expression was torn between duty and understanding. "Your Grace, in your condition—"
"I'm pregnant, not helpless," I snapped, then immediately softened my tone. "I won't engage in combat, but I can still be useful."
