Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Enrollment

September had arrived. The Ninja Academy was finally open!

It had already been a week since the day he and Shisui returned from their barbecue.

With Saitama's request accepted by Shisui's father, every morning for the past few days, Saitama would go to Shisui's house to train together in swordsmanship.

Shisui's sword style had a noble and storied lineage.

His grandfather, Kagami Uchiha, was once part of the elite personal guard unit under The Second.

Kagami's sword technique was passed down directly from The Second himself — the renowned Konoha-ryu (Konoha Style) swordsmanship.

Other well-known practitioners of Konoha-ryu included Might Duy's longtime companion, Kosuke Maruboshi — known as "The Immortal Genin," a living legend who had survived countless wars yet remained a genin for years.

So this sword style isn't to be underestimated when mastered!

Meanwhile, Saitama kept up with both chakra refinement and hand seal practice.

His chakra reserves steadily increased while his skill with seals improved as well.

Although Saitama hadn't formally started learning advanced ninjutsu, he'd already gone through the basic techniques left behind by his parents — simple ninja arts like [Transformation Jutsu], [Substitution Jutsu], and [Clone Jutsu].

Today was finally the first day of the Ninja Academy. The previous night, Ka Po-pu had told him there were over a dozen children from the clan enrolling this year, Shisui among them of course.

Early in the morning, after bidding farewell to Ka Uchiha and letting her stay home at ease, Saitama began walking toward the academy with light steps.

Along the way, he naturally encountered many fellow Uchihas.

He greeted the ones he knew politely, and simply nodded at those he didn't.

Others in the clan had heard about Saitama's unusually mature behavior, so nobody found his mannerisms strange.

Before long, Saitama stepped out of the Uchiha clan compound.

"Saitama! Saitama!"

Just after leaving the Uchiha district, he heard a familiar voice calling him.

After spending so much time together, Saitama immediately recognized it was Shisui Uchiha.

"Yo! Shisui!" He waved casually at Shisui, then turned to greet Uchiha Tachibana, Shisui's mother, who stood beside him.

"Good morning, Auntie Tachibana!"

"Hello there, Saitama," she replied with a gentle smile.

From a week of interaction, Tachibana had grown very fond of Saitama — a precocious and considerate young boy.

"Let's head to school together, Saitama."

Tachibana knew a little about Saitama's background from rumors around the village and refrained from prying about his enrollment arrangements.

"Yeah, let's go together."

Shisui chimed in enthusiastically.

"Alright, let's go."

As they approached the academy, more and more people filled the streets.

When Saitama reached the school gates, he was surprised by how many people had gathered here — something he hadn't really seen before in Konoha.

This scene reminded him of enrollment days from his previous life.

After all, even in different worlds, the joy of parents on days like this was exactly the same!

Though called a ninja academy, any child of the appropriate age living in Konoha Village could attend its classes.

But not everyone would become true ninja — only those who successfully passed the final graduation exam could earn the title of "Konoha Genin"!

Using their Uchiha status, Saitama and Shisui managed to register early and entered the academy.

In contrast, Mrs. Tachibana Uchiha remained outside the school like an ordinary mother waiting for her child.

As soon as they entered, they found themselves in a large playground.

It was already filled with many new students—easily a couple hundred at first glance.

The moment they stepped onto the playground, both attracted numerous glances.

Saitama looked around. Though everyone was still young children, small groups had already formed.

Here stood a group of Inuzuka kids holding pet dogs, their faces painted with elaborate patterns. Nearby were some boys with Byakugan eyes—Hyuga clan members. A bit farther off, a quiet group wore sunglasses and exuded coolness from head to toe. And closest to Saitama, a cluster of Uchiha kids dressed identically in high-necked black shirts with jet-black hair and onyx eyes...

Meanwhile, commoner students gathered on the other side of the playground, completely separated like oil and water.

Without hesitation, Saitama and Shisui naturally joined the Uchiha group.

"What's going on here, Saitama?"

Shisui asked, puzzled.

Believing in asking questions whenever uncertain, he voiced his curiosity.

"Probably just little brats trying to uphold their family pride?"

Saitama whispered quietly.

He couldn't afford to say it out loud—one, he didn't want to make enemies; two, he himself belonged to a powerful clan.

After idly chatting with Shisui for a while, the registration finally ended outside.

Now the playground was packed—Saitama estimated there were roughly five hundred strong.

Noisy chatter turned the ninja academy into something like a bustling fish market, smaller groups starting to interact.

Many had overcome initial shyness and begun casual interactions.

"Hey, are you from the Uchiha clan?" suddenly a slightly darker-skinned boy curiously approached Saitama.

"Uh, I'm Saitama Uchiha."

Saitama felt this kid looked somewhat familiar.

"I'm Iruka Umino! Nice to meet you!"

"Glad to meet you too—hope we get along!"

The boy called himself Iruka Umino, grinning happily.

Oh right, this must be the royal tutor to the future prince!

"Hi! I'm Shisui Uchiha!"

Shisui politely introduced himself as well.

"Nice to meet you both!"

Iruka felt delighted making new friends on the first day of school.

"I heard there'll be an entrance exam followed by class assignments!"

"Huh? Really?"

Saitama wondered how Iruka knew insider information.

"Yeah, I overheard teachers talking about it when passing by," Iruka explained.

Saitama gave a slow nod—so the academy actually had entrance exams?

"Everyone, please quiet down!"

A voice infused with chakra echoed across the playground.

Instantly, the noisy chatter ceased as every student turned toward the source.

A group of teachers stood upon an elevated platform at the front of the playground. The speaker was a middle-aged balding man who clearly held leadership presence.

"Students, I am the academic director of this school. I will accompany all of you for the next few years."

"First, welcome to the Ninja Academy. Today is the first day of school."

"Next up is the entrance exam. We appreciate everyone's cooperation with the teachers!" After the bald leader finished speaking, he nodded toward his colleagues, who then began descending from the stage one by one.

Due to the large number of new students, they were divided into several groups and taken to different locations for their entrance exams.

Saitama, Shisui, and the newly met Iruka remained on the main training ground.

"Hello everyone, this entrance exam is actually very simple—just run ten laps around this field. It tests your physical endurance and determination. Based on individual performance, you'll be assigned to different classes. If you really can't continue at any point, just raise your hand. Understood?"

A background teacher wearing the Konoha forehead protector around his neck explained the rules to the group still remaining in the courtyard.

As soon as he finished speaking, Saitama heard a few startled cries from nearby.

Looking over, he saw several chubby kids pouting.

Saitama smiled knowingly.

This entrance exam was definitely going to punish anyone from the Akimichi clan!

Saitama naturally had no fear of such an exam; after all, no one understood the physical constitution of this body better than him.

At this age, his physique could only be considered abnormal.

Every time he trained sword swings with Shisui, while Shisui ended up exhausted like a dying dog, Saitama himself would only feel slightly tired, then quickly regain full energy after a brief rest.

Shisui naturally had excellent stamina, but compared to Saitama, it wasn't even in the same league. Perhaps only someone of royal Saiyan blood at the same level could match up to him.

At the teacher's signal, everyone remaining on the field burst into a sprint.

Saitama knew that getting a good score meant being placed in an advanced class. From the start, he shot forward like an arrow, taking an early lead.

Shisui followed closely behind him, refusing to let Saitama pull away.

To Saitama's surprise, the seemingly unremarkable Iruka also stayed right beside Shisui, keeping up effortlessly.

Are you even the real Iruka?!

Saitama couldn't help suspecting that this Iruka might also be someone who had crossed over and possessed his own Secret Cheat Ability.

Otherwise, how could this apparently weak Iruka keep pace with both himself and Shisui?

The first lap went by quickly. Saitama maintained his sprinting speed throughout, drawing curious glances from the teachers, who looked at him more than once.

Meanwhile, both Shisui and Iruka didn't disappoint Saitama either, sticking tightly to his tail.

Although many of the examinees here were children of ninja families, given their young age, most of them weren't particularly fit yet.

So the three of them took the lead as the front runners, setting the pace for the rest.

Two laps, three laps, four laps...

Some tried hard to surpass the leading trio, but whenever anyone approached, Saitama and his two companions would instinctively accelerate, pulling further ahead.

By the final two laps, Iruka clearly couldn't last much longer. Shisui was somewhat better off, though he too was gritting his teeth to keep going.

Their bangs were soaked with sweat, clinging tightly to their foreheads.

What about Saitama?

Although he was sweating too, he looked a lot better, like he still had some energy left in the tank.

As for the others? Quite a few had already given up by the fifth or sixth lap.

You've gotta remember, one lap was nearly six hundred meters.

Saitama slowed his pace appropriately and jogged the final two laps with the two nearly-exhausted students trailing behind.

"Saitama, you're amazing!"

The moment they finished running, Shisui collapsed onto the ground.

"Eh, not really!" Saitama waved it off.

"I train all the time under Tenten's father's supervision, so I have this kind of stamina. Never thought Saitama would be even stronger!"

Iruka chimed in with similar praise.

"Take slow, deep breaths," Saitama added simply.

With results like these, my class placement shouldn't be too shabby either. Plus, I come from the Uchiha family, known for producing prodigies. Regardless of personal feelings, there's no way I'd end up in a class full of background characters.

From what Saitama remembered, Konoha Ninja Academy wasn't supposed to have so many flashy things like this.

After all, while watching the anime, he noticed that aside from a few main characters, everyone else in the young prince's class were just extras.

Class placements weren't supposed to be *that* obvious!

Saitama couldn't shake the feeling that something fishy was going on with these class assignments—they must've been set up to fool people who didn't know any better.
