Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The First Steps of Destiny

As the days passed in the Cosmic Dao Sect, the aura of the light that had swept across the Myriad Immortal World began to settle, but its influence remained ever-present. Wu Li, still an infant, lay in the sanctuary of the Wu family, surrounded by the endless echoes of his new world.

His father, Wu Yan, Sect Master of the Cosmic Dao Sect, would often come to gaze upon him, his once-imposing figure now softened by the child's innocent presence. Ye Xuan, his mother, watched over him with the kind of maternal care that only a mother could offer, but even she could not deny the heaviness in her heart. Their child was not just an heir to a powerful sect—he was something more.

Though Wu Li had no words to speak, his mind, still tethered to his past life as a graduate student on Earth, was far from still. Memories of his former life surged within him, sometimes overwhelming him with a strange sense of displacement. How could this be his reality? How could he go from being a student of science and reason to a newborn in a world of cultivation and arcane magic?

The Dao and Arcane Forces

In the quiet chambers of the sect's library, Wu Yan sat alone, reading through ancient scrolls and tomes of Dao philosophy. The event of his son's birth, though wondrous, had shaken him to his core. The light had not just been a celestial event—it was a manifestation of something much deeper. Wu Li was destined for greatness, but the forces of fate that had awakened within him would shape both his future and the future of the sect.

The Dao was the path of spiritual cultivation, the way of alignment with the natural order of the universe. It was about achieving enlightenment, transcending the physical world, and becoming one with the cosmos. To follow the Dao was to grow in wisdom and harmony, but it was also a slow, arduous path.

Arcane magic, on the other hand, was the manipulation of raw power. Through the study of ancient texts, one could learn to bend the elements to their will, to warp time, space, and reality. It was a path of immense potential, but also one fraught with danger—too much power could easily corrupt the practitioner, leading them down a path of destruction.

Wu Yan had always followed the Dao, embracing its teachings and purity. But he had seen the allure of the arcane magic, and the dangers it posed when wielded by the wrong hands. Wu Li was different, though. The voice of destiny had already spoken to him, urging him to walk both paths. Could his son truly balance both the Dao and arcane forces, or would one destroy the other?

His thoughts were interrupted by the soft sound of footsteps behind him. Ye Xuan entered, her gentle presence a calming influence in the tense air.

"How is he?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.

"He grows stronger each day," Wu Yan replied, his voice calm but filled with an undertone of worry. "But the forces awakening inside him are unlike anything we've ever seen. He is more than just the heir of the Cosmic Dao Sect—he is the key to something greater."

"I can feel it," Ye Xuan said, her gaze distant. "The light that surrounded his birth… it was not just a phenomenon of the heavens. It was a sign."

Wu Yan sighed and turned to face his wife. "I fear what this means for him. The Dao is a path of balance, of quiet growth. But the arcane forces—"

"Are dangerous," Ye Xuan finished for him. "I know. But he is no ordinary child, Wu Yan. He carries the legacy of the Dao and the arcane within him. If we do not help him understand and master both, he will become a dangerous weapon."

Wu Yan stood and walked toward the window, looking out at the distant horizon, where the sunset bathed the Lotus Mountains in soft gold and pink. "The Myriad Immortal World is in a state of change. The factions grow restless. The light that marked Wu Li's birth will attract the attention of both allies and enemies."

The First Test

The following morning, Wu Li's first test would come. It was a test of fate—one that would reveal his connection to both the Dao and the arcane magic that pulsed within him.

The ancient temple of the Cosmic Dao Sect was where the first rite of passage took place for those born into the sect. Though Wu Li was just an infant, his parents knew that the ritual could not be delayed. The Rite of Awakening was a sacred ceremony, a practice that connected the child with the spiritual essence of the Dao and marked the beginning of their cultivation journey.

Wu Yan and Ye Xuan brought Wu Li to the high chamber of the temple, where priests and elders gathered in solemn preparation. The air inside the chamber was thick with the scent of incense, and the faint sound of chanting filled the space. Above, ancient symbols of the Dao glowed softly, carved into the stone walls.

Wu Li's tiny body was placed on a stone altar, and the elders began their incantations, their voices blending into a quiet harmony. Wu Li's parents stood at the edge of the altar, their eyes filled with love and anxiety.

As the ritual began, Wu Li stirred for the first time, his eyes flickering open. The moment they did, a soft, pulsing light began to radiate from within him—Dao energy and arcane magic intertwining like two rivers meeting at the point of convergence.

For the first time, Wu Li felt the surge of both powers—the Dao, flowing through his tiny body like a river of wisdom and peace, and the arcane, crackling with raw, untamed energy. The two forces clashed within him, struggling for dominance.

But Wu Li, despite his infant form, did not cry out. Instead, he felt a strange sense of harmony between the two forces. It was as if they were meant to coexist—Dao and arcane magic, not as opposites, but as two halves of the same whole.

The elders gasped in unison, sensing the power rising within Wu Li. They had never seen such an unprecedented event. The light around him brightened, casting the entire chamber in an ethereal glow.

The First Bond

The ritual ended, and Wu Li's parents rushed to his side, their hearts both filled with awe and a deep sense of foreboding.

"He has awakened." Ye Xuan whispered, her voice shaking. "But there is something else."

Wu Yan's face was filled with both pride and concern. "Yes. He is not just the heir to the Cosmic Dao Sect. He is something more. He is the bridge between the Dao and the arcane forces."

The elders stepped forward, their eyes filled with reverence and fear. "We have not seen such a phenomenon in generations. The child carries both Dao energy and arcane magic within him. This could change the fate of the Myriad Immortal World."
