Nowadays, people often focus on themselves rather than building real connections with others. It's like everyone is looking out for their own benefit when they form relationships. This can make friendships and connections feel fake because people are more interested in what they can get out of them.
One troubling part of this trend is that we tend to idolise and praise rich and successful people while putting down those who might not be as well-off. The measure of someone's worth often becomes how much money they have, creating a culture that celebrates the wealthy and looks down on those with less. This not only makes social inequalities worse but also leads to a society where true connections are sacrificed for the pursuit of social status.
This selfish mindset also makes people less compassionate. When someone does something kind, we might question their motives, thinking they're only doing it for personal gain. Genuine acts of kindness are overshadowed by suspicion, making it hard for people to offer help without wondering if there's a hidden agenda.
But, as usual, there were some special cases. In this case, it was a group of five friends who stood out. These friends were different because they didn't just act like regular buddies. They were always there for each other, ready to help without any second thought. When things got hard, they didn't just disappear; instead, they supported and cheered each other on, creating a really strong and unique bond. Their friendships were not like the usual ones you see; they were based on working together and understanding each other, which made their connections even more special.
It was not like they were always good with each other; like always, their friendship started with a fight, which eventually brought them together.
It all started when they fought for a pastry. But who knew that "the fight" would change their life?
In bustling City R, the street AB was quite busy with students going to college and talking about assignments, and some were just strolling around. On the street, there was a famous cafe among the college students, as the food was good and the prices were quite reasonable. On the corner of the cafe, there were two teenagers who were arguing about something.
"I can't believe you decided to hide this from me," the girl said as she glared at the person who was sitting opposite her. The girl had an ivory skin tone that was overshadowed by a red hue from anger.
"I didn't hide this from you, babygirl. I just decided to tell you later, after things got settled! You can't accuse me like this! This would affect my image! You know right, I can sue you for this! Even though you are from a rich background, you are still a penny in front of the law," said the man in an exaggerated manner. Even though he was sitting, his height was quite noticeable. He was quite tall as compared to his age group. Even if he was tall, what stood him out was his greyish eyes, which were full of mischief and just a small amount of guilt.
"ARE YOU SERIOUS? I DARE YOU! Sue me! I'll see you in the court"
The girl was about to get off her seat, but just like lightning-fast speed, the guy stood up from his seat and got on his knees in front of the girl, who was about to leave.
"Ellie please! Please! Forgive me! I swear I was going to tell you after all this was over! You know I won't do anything without informing you. It was just that there were a lot of things going on with you, so I decided to tell you later." After receiving a death-like glare, he continued, "I know! I know! You would have still helped me, but try to understand that there were a lot of things going on with me too! I really didn't have time to inform you! But now that everything is goodie-good, there's no point in reminiscing about the past, right? Look, I made it out without any complications! They just underestimated me for being new to this industry. Those B@$t*** didn't know I'm an expert in that field!"
Ellie, the girl, was speechless for a moment. She really can't believe this guy can be full of himself even in difficult situations and yet come clean from it. She really didn't have any words for him!
In a short moment, he threw those people in the dirt and made himself look like a great human being, which was somewhat true, but she won't admit it in front of this guy! Who knows what he will do? Also, he convinced her with his stupid act and speech!
She sighed and resigned to it. She knew that there's no point in arguing with this guy. He would use his skills and make himself a victim in this situation. At least it was better that he didn't do that.
With this thought in mind, she said, "Come on, get up now. Don't you have a reputation to maintain?"
"No, I won't! Say that you forgive me!"
Now she has completely gave in. "Ok, ok I forgive you. Please stand up and go to your seat!" she said with a sigh.
With a smirk on his face, he hid immediately after he noticed that she was still looking at him. He went to his seat and looked at her, checking whether she was still upset or not.
"Maverick, you know I would have helped you in whatever situation it be. This would not have escalated if you had told me. Do you even consider me your friend? How can you hide it from me? I know you are capable enough to fight your own battles; the least I could have done is to support you. I wouldn't have interfered in your matter without your permission. I care for you, Mavi. I don't want to see you in pain." Natalie said it with moisture in her eyes.
Maverick sighed when he saw that hurt look on Natalie's face. He knew he had messed up a lot this time. He has to explain everything now.
