Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The boy from the burning village

The sun had just set below the horizon, yet there was plenty of light to be seen from the burning houses in the village. The buildings had been completly engulfed in flames, the roofs of the wooden buildings caving in trapping anyone inside the houses.

There was a single man walking on a path that ran through the middle of the village. He was wearing a long robe that was covered in mud and slightly burned. In his arms the man was carrying a young unconscious boy. He could hear the screams of the people trapped in the burning houses, but he didnt pay any attention to them as he simply did not care. And it was too late to save them anyway, the man thought to himself. The man stopped for a moment to gaze at the sky as rain cascaded down on to the burning village, and it had turned the path completly muddy.

As the man continued to walk he was beginning to see his destination the bank of a river that ran parallel to the village. And just as he had hoped he saw a small wooden boat, only attached to a wooden post by rope.

Walking up to the boat, the man gently laid the young boy into the boat and he pulled out a small charm out of his pocket. The charm was a golden circle with a strange symbol carved into the middle of the circle, the charm had two holes on either side where a short rope was fitted through. The ends of the rope that pointed down were tied into a knot.

The man carefully put the charm into the hand of the boy and closed it, making sure he was holding it tightly. Then the man turned around and cut the rope that attached the boat to the post and then he turned back to face the boat.

"try to not cause anymore trouble for me, okay? kira." He said with as he pushed the boat with his foot and he watched as the current of the river swept the boat with it leading it to the open sea. And with this the man turned around and calmly walked through the village once again where the screams of agony were long gone as the rain had almost completly put out the burning houses and has he gazed at them he could see the charred corpses of families, but his expression was blank and he merely kept walking.

In another village a long distance away the sun had begun to rise as a girl who was sleeping in her bed she ws awakend by her mother yelling to her from downstairs. "Akame, you better not be sleeping anymore." The girl, Akame, was so startled by her mother's yelling that she fell from her bed onto the floor on her face her hair falling around her head. She used her hands to push her self off of the floor and onto her knees and then she stood up, her eyelids drooping from sleepiness.

Akame quickly put on her dress and she exited her room and into the hallway, her room was the first door upstairs on the right and then at the very end of the short hallway is the door to her mothers room. Akame quickly headed downstairs where she saw her mother in the kitchen, she is throwing wood into the stone oven to keep it warm as she is baking bread in it. Akame's mother, charlotte, turned to look at Akame. "Akame, go get some water from the town well and buy some flour from the market." charlotte said with a stern voice as she handed Akame five copper coins for the flour. "yes, mother." Akame headed for the door and put on her boots and she grabbed a wooden bucket "see you later, mother." she yelled out as she closed the door behind her. Charlotte watched Akame leave and with a proud smile she whispered to herself "What a responsible girl i'm raising."

As akame skipped down the stone street with buildings on either side her red hair swaying genty. "good morning, Akame" she heard some of the towns folk yelling out, Akame waved at them as she kept skipping until she reached an opening in the stree where on her right side were more buildings but on her left side was a clear view of the sea shore and there something caught her attention.

She saw a small wooden boat hitting the shore over and over again "What's that" Akame thought, she looked down the street and then back at the boat her curiosity getting the better of her and she slid down the side of the street down to the shore and she walked over to the boat and when she looked inside seeing the boy laying inside. She fell back the bucket falling out of her hand and her face pales, she doesnt really know what to do as she doesnt know if the boy is dead or not. Akame scrambles to her feet and starts sprinting back to her house and she burst in the door, Charlotte is startled by Akame's sudden enterance. "why are you back here in such a hurry?" Charlotte ask still stratled. " T-there was this boy a-at the shore i-i-in a boat." Akame said being exhausted from running. "What are you talking about?" Charlotte said her expression full of confusion. Without saying another word Akame grabbed Charlotte's hand and started to lead her to the shore where Charlotte saw the boy in the boat.

"this is terrible. what is this boy doing here?" Charlotte's voice full of concern as she picked up the boy and carried him to their house going upstairs and went to her room and laid the boy down on the bed.
