Chapter 1 - (ー_ー゛)

Once upon a time, a girl who lived in a dark world, high up in a tower in a lonely home, looked up to the sky.

Every day, she looked up to the sky, but there was no light...

Not in her world, anyways.

In the village of the sunless...

All the villages were always in darkness.

In that same village, living in a castle with everything he ever wanted, was a handsome prince!

And this prince was loved by everyone and anyone.

He had everything he ever wished for...

So, this prince felt he didn't need love.

And he didn't want a wife or marriage.

His parents tried and tried and tried to convince the prince.

But every time they said to the prince, "Oh ye prince West, wouldn't thou take up a princess?"

The prince would always reply, "Why wouldest thou need such? A princess I would not need."

This made the king and queen very sad as their son would not listen.

And so, one day, when the prince went on his usual hunts, he stayed a little too late, and it slowly got dark.

He ran into a witch—the evil witch of the night—who brought upon the sunless curse on his kingdom.

And she said, "You disobedient and strong-willed prince, your refusal shall plunge your kingdom into darkness forever!"

The prince tried to fight the witch, but the witch was very powerful. "Strong as you may, I curse you today, to crawl with legs of four, clothed with the hair of the beast bound to the moon. A curse I shall make, only to be broken by the maiden in hay!" she cursed him.

And the prince turned into a creature like no other, and he could not return home...

For he was stuck in the form of a hairy monster...

And every seven days, a bright ball would rise in the sky, which gave the people light for the first time...

And he would follow the light, wandering in the darkness forever.

The king and queen were deeply grieved; their only child did not return home, and that day, for the first time, there was light in the sunless kingdom.

And so, they named this light the moon, for it brought a form of light, but even more darkness.

And the girl in the tower saw the light for the first time, and before her, from her high tower, stood a creature on four hairy legs, with the shape of a dog but much bigger and much more dangerous looking.

And this wolf would stare at her every seven days when the light rose in the sky.
