Chapter 29 - Chapter 29: Northern Legion

'Did… we still fail?'

The mecha crashed to the ground with a violent explosion. Ze Tao abandoned the cockpit, flying into the air, his six spirit rings glowing fiercely as he prepared for a final stand.

"Kill!"

Countless evil soul masters surged forward, most of them Soul Ancestors and Soul Elders. Their eyes burned with madness, as if their very lives had been elevated to some higher frenzy.

A black spirit ring flared.

"Heaven's Bind!"

Ze Tao's martial soul was the Heavenly Shackles — to put it simply, the kind of heavy shackles police used to restrain criminals.

"My hand! Ahh!!"

Chains clamped tightly onto every evil soul master's arms, unbreakable, pouring immense mental and physical pain into them, forcing them to feel the raw agony of approaching death.

"Curse Strike!"

Another evil soul master, a Soul Emperor, attacked. The two Soul Kings facing him had already been slain.

A streak of black light blasted straight into Ze Tao, piercing through his chest at lightning speed.

"How… how is this possible?" Ze Tao stared down at his chest, watching black energy spread swiftly across his body.

A wave of helplessness flooded his heart. He fell straight down, his life force seeming to drain away completely.

"Die…" The evil Soul Emperor closed two fingers, pointing them at Ze Tao.

"Explode!"

Boom!

A burst of black mist erupted, mixed faintly with blood.

"It's over!"

Spurt!

But the battle was not over yet.

Thousands of soul-guided surface-to-air missiles shot into the sky like falling stars, lighting up the heavens.

"We're too late…" General Jiang's voice caught in his throat.

"Hear my command! Evil soul masters rampage unchecked, bullying the Federation, slaughtering our people, killing our comrades — they must be punished!!"

"Yes! Punish the evil souls!!"

Three black shadows shot through the air at barely visible speeds — supersonic, around Mach 5. These were seventh-generation soul-guided fighters, the Federation's independently developed second-generation war machines, equipped with ninth-level fixed soul-guided shells and various interference payloads, each weighing eight or nine tons. Every pilot had to be at least a Soul King just to withstand the crushing acceleration.

This incident had escalated to the level of a full-scale campaign. The Federation ordered the Northern Legion to mobilize, with General Jiang personally leading the Third Unit. They had come partly because of an old friend — Ze Tao's call for help.

The strike force was enormous: three black-grade mechas, three Soul Douluo, each armored with two-word battle armor, making them roughly equivalent to ordinary Title Douluo. There were also countless purple-grade mechas swarming behind.

In a darkened room,

"President, what are you thinking about?"

A hand offered over a cup of tea.

He took it slowly, sipping lightly. "You think hijacking a train in Shrek City was really that easy? Even the tracks… they didn't match the original route, yet the train miraculously passed through smoothly. Who switched the rails?"

"You mean…" The man's eyes widened slightly.

"It's not just inside the Federation. I suspect the evil soul masters have infiltrated the top three factions as well."

"But wouldn't it be easy to check? Just interrogate the rail guards."

"Sure, in theory. But those weren't the people who did it. The evil soul masters have strange techniques — they can wipe memories, erase souls. The rail guards were basically left as lunatics. What could they possibly tell us? Even if a spiritual-type Title Douluo tried to force memories out, they'd get nothing."

"This new era… it's really not peaceful."

"Warning! Warning!"

A thousand meters overhead, multiple third-level surface-to-air missiles incoming!

Interference deployed!

Several specialized yellow-grade mechas launched swarms of small missiles, intercepting the larger incoming rockets midair, exploding into waves of fire.

"There are a lot of them." General Jiang frowned.

With a flick of his black-grade mecha's blade, he spun it through the sky, cutting apart missiles one after another.

"Advance!"

"Damn it!"

Three Soul Emperor-level evil soul masters were now battered and bloodied, their battle armor shattered, shards embedded in their flesh.

Three supersonic soul-guided warplanes roared overhead, their twin-mounted machine guns spraying streams of bullets. The lower-ranked evil soul masters below were shredded like pulp, massacred without the slightest chance to resist.

"Our cannons! Where are our cannons?!" a Soul King-level evil soul master howled.

"We… we can't even reach them! Our artillery can't hit targets at that range!"

The Soul King collapsed to the ground, laughing bitterly. "Ha! The Jing Teng Evil Soul Master Group will never truly die! Boss… it's all up to you now!" With those words, he ended his own life.

"Evil God! Take action!!"

The three Soul Emperor evil soul masters also self-destructed, and masses of dark energy surged into the sky, pouring into the enormous Evil God above.

"Seven sixth-level soul-guided shells — fire!"

The three fighter jets roared skyward, then dove down, forming a perfect triangular formation. Their vapor trails etched sharp lines across the sky, creating a stunning, almost artistic scene.

Boom! Boom!

"How can this be?!" The three pilots froze in shock. As the smoke cleared, the colossal evil-eyed creature stood there, completely unscathed.

"Regroup for a coordinated strike."

The fighters split up, circling around for a second bombardment — but it was clear now. Their attacks simply weren't doing any damage.

"Commander! We've encountered a strange…"

General Jiang narrowed his eyes. "Pull back for now. We're almost there."

"Commander… we can't make it back."

General Jiang's eyes snapped open. "What happened?"

"Tell my parents… goodbye…"

The signal went dead.

"Full speed ahead! We reach the main battlefield in three minutes!" General Jiang roared.

"Yes, sir!!"

Massive purple vines burst up from beneath the city. "Haha! It's done! A body rivaling the gods themselves!"

Space tore open, and a black-robed woman appeared, her eyes an eerie pale white. She gently stroked the Evil God's body, a look of obsession gleaming in her gaze.

The three fighter jets were already ensnared by the twisting vines. These were the same purple vines Gu You had seen earlier on the city's outskirts, now grown even larger, covered in strange runes pulsing with black light. They radiated a chilling, sinister aura.

"Comrades! Let's unload every bit of our payload. We will die standing!!"

Nearly five tons of explosives blasted into the giant mass of vines. As the smoke cleared, a massive breach opened. The three fighters, engines roaring at maximum speed, shot forward like arrows, breaking through.

Triangular attack formation. They were going to ram straight into the enemy — sacrificing themselves to uphold the honor and glory of heroic soldiers.

Their speed was too fast to stop.

They streaked directly toward the black-robed woman and the Evil God, triggering a fierce explosion.

"Tch. So annoying."

Yue Zi wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth. Nine spirit rings floated around her. A Title Douluo — a Title Douluo-level evil soul master!

Jing Teng!

Her two-word battle armor merged smoothly with her body, unleashing an aura no weaker than that of a Super Douluo. Even the injuries from the earlier impact healed instantly.

"Now… it's your turn." Yue Zi's pale eyes turned toward the horizon.
