A lot of people says "blood runs thicker than water" but does it?
Funny right?
But what if I told you that quote has been haunting me for years. The quote and
the final words my grandmother told me before she was stabbed to death on my 7th
birthday. I know a lot of people might think it's just because of old age or
trauma from the past. But deep down in my heart it sounded like a warning or
reminder of the awful incident from the past which will forever haunt me till
my grave. My family might have already moved on and buried what happened in the
past except for me. My family including my dad faced a hard time that day on
only which he lost his mother but also because he also lost the only person in
this family which treated him normal. I knew it because my grandmother was the
kindest and humblest person I knew despite her status and background. She was
also the prettiest grandma compared to her age. She had a fair skin, ocean blue
eyes and a bright red colored with little gray hairs. She was not only
beautiful but also humble and elegant which is why a lot of people are still mesmerized
by her presence. I once thought that she was just like a fairy godmother of
mine when I was little. I always imagined how she will look like as I grow up.
Like in fairytales, always imagined she will always be my side till I grow up
but I didn't knew faith had other plans. I knew I was still young that day but I
didn't expected my fairytale like life would turn into a living nightmare. I
also didn't expected that incident will happen on the day that was supposed to
be the most memorable day of my life.
"What do you want for your birthday my dear?" she asked while she was doing my hair.
"Um… to celebrate it with you" I replied.
"Aw that's
so sweet of you sweetheart" she added then asked me how I want my birthday
theme to look like and what gifts she would buy for me with a warm smile. "It's okay I already have everything I would ever wanted" in a sweet yet happy tone. After that she didn't replied anymore but just smiled at me then kissed me on the forehead. I can feel her warmth whenever she kissed or hugged me. I really love her because she was like my guardian angel in this family and world. But I didn't knew that this was only temporary.
My birthday was so fun like I didn't wanted it to end, everyone was singing and dancing happily inside the villa as I went outside to find my grandmother and
the garden when suddenly I heard her say "Who are you?" to a man who was
wearing a pure black coat with a doll like mass in his face. He was standing then
he suddenly turned his head over me like he wanted me to witness it. He pulled
out his gun and shot my grandmother right exactly at her shoulder. Then he
watched her fall to the ground bleeding and begging him to spare her. I stood
still behind the bushes thinking it
would be over when suddenly he walked to her again then stabbed her multiple
times in the neck. I was so terrified that I couldn't even scream for help. My heart was pounding so fast like it was going to explode. I only stood still while everything was happening in front of me. Blood dripping out as I hear the
piercing sound of the killer until my grandmother stopped breathing only then
he left with a smile piercing through his mask. It felt so unreal but I couldn't even do anything to help. My lungs suddenly stopped like a fish loosing it's breath when it's out of the water. I was trembling in fear my hands shaking uncontrollably, I was already in the state of fainting but I suddenly heard a voice calling out my name "Ann wake up!".
