I watched as my boyfriend got into the chutes with a mean bull. Then watched as the gate opened and the bull bucked out. Every millisecond I watched, he came closer to the eight seconds.
Once the buzzer sounded, he jumped off and threw his hat. I caught it and ran to meet him. He picked me up and spun me around. I stuck his hat back on his head as he kissed me.
"Thank you, sweet pea." He said as he set me down. We kissed again before I had to get my bronc gear on. Once I had my chaps on and vest, I went back and drew my horse after remembering my girth.
The Devil's Prodigy was the horse I drew. "Be careful, sweet pea," Wyatt warned. "You know I'm always careful." I reminded him. "I don't want Rylin to be in the same bed as me. My balls rely on sleeping next to you." He whispered the last part in my ear.
I giggled before he kissed my cheek. As I turned around, he spanked me. "You'll be paying for that later, Ray," I warned him. "Can't wait to see what it is." He yelled back.
I bit my lip as I walked over to my chute. My rope was secured to the mean horse. I got into the chute ready for my ride.
"You're not going to do it, are you? That horse will kill you. You're never going to get to nationals without me." I nodded once I was up on my rope. The gate opened, and the horse crow hopped.
I held on. The next thing I felt was the horse rolling over me. Then staring at the sky. It hurt to move. I continued to stare up. My gaze never leaves the sky.
"Cass. Cassidy, look at me, sweet pea." I tried to turn my head. "Let's get her out of here." Someone yelled. I felt someone brush my hand.
I couldn't feel anything at all. "Cassidy." I tried to stay conscious. "Cass." I blacked out as they put me in the ambulance.
Wyatt's POV
"Cass." I tried to get her to look at me. "She's unresponsive." One of the EMTs said as they put her in the ambulance. They wouldn't let me ride with so I ran for her truck and jumped in.
I followed them to the hospital and went into the waiting room. I didn't want to lose her now. I've seen too many people who have lost their lives overseas.
I don't want to lose her, too. I sat there for what seemed like eternity. Her parents have been contacted by now. All I was doing was waiting for her.
Three hours passed, and still nothing. The doors opened, and both of her parents rushed in. I stood up quickly. They talked to the receptionist before coming over to me.
"What happened?" Nathan asked me. "The horse slipped and rolled over on her. They're still investigating how the horse fell. The ring was dry when I was out there." I told him.
"Any word on her yet?" He asked. I hung my head and shook it. "Don't worry, boy, she'll be fine." He told me. We sat down and waited. It was the longest wait of my life.
A nurse finally came out. "Mr. and Mrs. Smith." They stood up and went over to the nurse. I waited until they came back. I stood as they came back over.
"She's become responsive. They're going to keep her overnight just to be safe, but they want someone to stay with her at all times." Nathan told me. "I can do it. It's no problem for me to stay up all night if I have to." I told him.
"How about I take the first half of the night and you can have the last?" He bargained. I nodded. "I'll be back with a change of her clothes for later," I told them before walking out to the truck.
This is the scariest thing I've gone through since being overseas. I got back to the trailer and gathered her some clothes. Then returned. I went to her room and found her trying to keep her eyes open.
I gently set the bag down and went over to her. "Hey, sweet pea, how are you feeling?" I said in a hushed tone. "Wish I wasn't here." She replied. "I know pea. It's just for a few more hours." I told her.
"Would you lie next to me?" She asked. I kissed her forehead and took my boots off. She rested her head on my shoulder after I got onto the bed and moved my right arm behind her neck.
I covered her up more so she wouldn't be cold. She drifted off into some much-needed sleep after what happened. I fell asleep soon after her.
