Chapter 2 - Cain and Abel

It's been five years since André reincarnated. Now, his name is Abel Von Silford.

Unlike Cain, who regained his memories at the age of three, Abel recovered his at just one year old.

Since then, Abel stood out as a little genius. Before he was even two, he spoke fluently and had naturally learned to read and write.

He always asked the maid to bring him books to read. Whenever his family saw him, he was immersed in a new volume.

Cain was more "normal," which reassured the Silford family. But they had no idea that was about to change.

When the twins turned three, Cain fell ill with a fever. After recovering, he seemed like a different person.

Luckily, he still acted like an innocent child, so no one gave it much thought.

After discovering that there was magic in that world, Cain became fascinated. He wanted to learn everything.

He quickly learned to read and write, and everyone began to notice the sudden change.

"Looks like we've got two geniuses in the family," said Garm.

"He changed a lot after the fever," said Sarah.

Cain nearly fell off his chair at those comments.

"Could it be a gift from God?" asked Garm.

With that final blow, Cain groaned softly. They'd hit the nail on the head. Abel, who had been watching everything silently, showed a discreet smile at the corner of his lips.

During the conversation, Cain asked to read books about the world and about magic. The request was approved, since Abel was also reading those books.

Cain began secretly studying magic. To his surprise, he managed to use it on his first try.

However, the noise he made caught the attention of his sister Reina, who caught him in the act. Fortunately, she decided to help him.

Time passed quickly.

Now, Cain and Abel are turning five. It's the day of their baptism.

In the carriage, the five family members rode together. Cain was mesmerized—it was his first time leaving the house. Abel, as usual, calmly observed everything in silence.

Garm looked at Cain's sparkling eyes, then turned to Abel, who maintained a neutral expression.

Looking back at Cain, Garm thought that this was how a child should be.

"Hey, Reine, how do you activate the status magic here?" Cain asked, curious.

Reine smiled at the question and decided to show him.

Abel kept watching silently.

A panel, like a floating hologram, appeared in the air before them. Cain eagerly stepped closer to see it.

Abel glanced at it and noticed a different title on Reina's screen: eldest daughter of the marquis, beloved of Cain and Abel.

"What do you mean, 'beloved of Cain and Abel'...?" Cain muttered, embarrassed.

Reina realized it immediately and quickly closed her status window, clearly flustered.

"You saw it?" she asked, with a threatening tone and a look that said: you better not have.

"N-no! I was just surprised because you have three elements!" Cain said, trying to steer the conversation away.

This time, Sarah was the one to speak.

"The queen received level two protection from the god of magic."

"Protection? Level?" Cain asked, increasingly intrigued.

Garm answered calmly.

"Magic and protection range from level one to five. The higher the level, the greater the user's talent."

Sarah added:

"Protection also determines how much mana is needed to activate a spell."

"Oh... and how do I get this protection thing?" Cain asked, excited by the idea.

Abel, on the other hand, kept quietly listening. Truth be told, he also wanted to know whether he would receive any kind of protection.

He wondered whether the gods of this world knew he was a reincarnated soul too.

"It's a gift from the gods," said Garm.

With those words, the carriage finally arrived at the church where Cain and Abel would have their baptism.
