Chapter 40 - Leap of the Mind

The device looked simple.

A pair of bands—thin, silver, barely the width of two fingers. Each lined with micro-filaments, soft as silk, and cool to the touch. When activated, they glowed with a low blue pulse.

The Neuro-Interface was born in a storm shelter, on a bench held together by sap-glue and stubbornness.

Mira sat on one side of the table. Wess on the other.

Toren stood nearby, arms crossed, watching the system run diagnostics.

"Feels like someone whispering in my teeth," Wess muttered, adjusting the band.

Mira grinned. "Speak louder—I'll whisper back."

They touched the console in sync.

Initiate Data Bridge?YES / NO

Toren didn't speak.

They both pressed YES.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then Mira gasped—sharply, eyes wide. Her pupils contracted. Fingers trembled.

And suddenly, she was moving—faster than she ever had before. Adjusting settings, recalibrating the uplink coils, rewriting node permissions on the spot.

Wess blinked, rubbing his temple. "It's like she pulled a file from my brain and used it."

"Not a copy," Mira said breathlessly. "An imprint. I know what you know."

Toren stared at her.

She recalibrated the entire uplink in twelve minutes.

Mira sat down hard.

"I could do this all day," she said.

But her eyes didn't smile.

Toren stepped forward.

He placed his hand on the console.

And opened the next blueprint.
