AUTHOR’S NOTE

Although The Frost and the Flame is set during a real historical period of what is now South Korea, all characters, events, and locations mentioned in this novel are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to real historical figures is purely coincidental or used for narrative purposes within the framework of fiction.

I have created this story out of deep respect for the rich culture, traditions, and worldview of Korea. It has never been my intention to misrepresent, trivialize, or disrespect the values of the Korean people, nor to appropriate their history. Rather, my goal has been to honor a civilization I deeply admire, exploring—through fiction and fantasy—the universal human dilemmas of forbidden love, the struggle for power, loyalty, betrayal, and inner freedom.

I would also like to emphasize that the portrayal of homosexuality in this work is not meant to impose a historical interpretation, but rather to give voice—through literary imagination—to identities and experiences that were often silenced by the social structures of the past.
