Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 Pawns

Over a cup of milky coffee and the soft murmur of the news, I prepared myself for what seemed like a calm night—but in my line of work, calm is a sign that a storm is brewing. Hello, my name is Adrian, and I'm currently 31 years old. I'm a father to two daughters and a husband. I work as the head of private security, and right now, I'm securing a transit money warehouse for an event organizer company. They're holding an Indonesian culinary festival in Yogyakarta. My job is to secure the central collection point for money from visitors who bought tickets at 10 different locations across Yogyakarta. For the next seven days, I hope there are no uncontrollable events or incidents we don't want. My first daughter, Zaskia, is 4 years old, and my second daughter, Hana, is 1 year old, while my wife's name is Zahra. It's truly difficult to leave them at home, but this job demands 24-hour responsibility and being ready whenever needed.

I've been working in the security sector for about 5 years now, and that's because Ridwan, the owner of this business, is my childhood friend from Jakarta. If there's no job, I just do physical training at the Headquarter security in Sleman. The place isn't too big, about 13 meters long, 3 meters high, and about 2.5 meters wide, but these containers are stacked three levels high, complete with AC facilities and other necessities. Headquarter security members aren't many, only about 33 people, with each team consisting of 11 members. And there's also Cindy as Ridwan's personal assistant, but she's also actually an information gatherer, because she can easily get any information. Of course, it's not just her, because Cindy has a younger brother named Tobi. Tobi is a white hat hacker who often works behind the scenes. So, there are a total of 35 people, not including the boss who owns this business.

Not long after, rain poured down on the money warehouse transit area, and several blind vans arrived to deliver money. The money was packaged in black plastic bags, and there were women inside the warehouse ready to arrange and pack the money according to its type. Four Headquarter security members were on guard, overseeing the money arrangement process. Bimo and I were on guard outside, ensuring all conditions were safe. At the gate, I stationed four people to guard the entrance post, two more were on standby on the warehouse roof with sniper weapons, and one person I placed in a minimarket, disguised as a parking attendant, 200 meters down the road leading to this transit warehouse. I controlled through the walkie-talkie every 10 minutes, ensuring safe conditions and no suspicious things. Each of them had a code name: code one was the member guarding the minimarket, code two was the sniper, code three was the money arrangement security, code four was the post guard, and I myself was downtown.

A walkie-talkie voice from code one gave information.

"Downtown, 10th car on the way."

"Roger, all increase vigilance, package almost complete."

"Finally, let this night end soon, we're already cold up here," said code two.

"How much money are we guarding here, commander?" asked code four.

"Permission to answer, commander, currently around 45 billion in money has entered, not including packages eight, nine, and ten," said code three.

"Wow, crazy, we'd retire if we had all that money, commander," said code one.

"Yes, go ahead and take it, but I'll hunt you down to your grave, get back to focusing, because rain usually brings good fortune to some people," Adrian firmly replied.

"Ready, commander."

They all answered in unison with an alert tone.

The time showed 03.15 AM.

The driver showed his ID card to pass through the guard post at the front. Code four checked around the car, ensuring everything was fine, and ordered the driver to open the sliding doors on both sides. Suddenly, several people appeared carrying sharp weapons. A fierce fight broke out between the members and a group of unknown people, about eight people got out of the blind van and immediately charged at code four's group. In a few slashes of sharp weapons, code four was defeated and died.

"Code four has fallen. Code four has fallen. Prepare for attack!" said code two, because the dark conditions prevented code two from being able to aim at the enemy below.

"Three cars with about 20 people heading downtown," code one reported.

"Code one, immediately report this to the nearest police station, and ask for backup from the nearest Headquarter members." "Ready to execute."

Several enemy cars arrived and entered the warehouse area, four people went to the roof to ambush the snipers. Another group got out by jumping from open-back cars and immediately charged at Adrian. Adrian, who was ready, immediately went towards those people, while ordering code three to lock the door from inside and prepare for attack. Code two with his rifle shot down enemies one by one who were within range. They didn't realize that there were already four people behind them who immediately plunged samurai swords into their bodies. One failed to dodge, and another succeeded, an uneven fight occurred, one against four people. Two were knocked down, but two others still stood strong. After trying to fight with bare hands, code two's member fell from the roof of the building and died in the warehouse parking lot.

I deftly fought a horde of attackers, dodging sword thrusts, swinging my arm to target the enemy in front of me. With a cold and expressionless gaze, he took down his opponents one by one, with bare hands. There was still a group of people in the last car who also got out and attacked me. I jumped, charged, hit, dodged, and fell. And a stab wound pierced his chest. He froze and pulled out the knife. Everyone started to lose their courage; they saw several of their members had died. And finally, some of the remaining people decided to drive away in their cars.

The two members who attacked code two had come down and were ready to attack Adrian. With samurais in their hands, they swung them accompanied by the pitter-patter of rain. Adrian tried to dodge, but his back did not escape the slash of the samurai sword. He endured the pain and determined to fight these two people more seriously, even with bare hands.

"Who sent you?" Adrian said.

"You don't need to know, because tomorrow you won't see the morning sun."

"We'll see who survives," Adrian said.

With well-aimed punches and precise reflexes, Adrian managed to hit one of his two opponents. Then he stomped on his head until he didn't get up again. One person remained. After seeing Adrian's ferocity, he decided to run away from Adrian, but at the gate, code one had just arrived and landed a punch directly on his face.

"Let him live, we need information from that person. Take him to the car trunk, don't let the police know about this." "Ready, commander," said code one.

"Code three, is the package safe?"

"Ready to report, package safe."

"Code three, put all packages into the container. Code one, we'll take the fallen members." "Ready, commander."

They divided tasks and carried out all these actions quickly and precisely. All this was done so that the police would not know what had happened tonight. Of course, Ridwan would take care of this matter; money would speak to cover up this incident.

At 04.30 AM, everything was finished. Adrian and the remaining members left the transit warehouse, heading to the Headquarter security base, and handed over the packaged money to the accepting EO representative. Six people died in this incident, but they knew the consequences of this job. With their remaining energy, they limped towards a dark clinic that served as a referral if any Headquarter security members were injured.

"Commander, do you know who leaked this, causing us to lose six of our members?"

"From their physique, it's clear they're not street thugs. They understand martial arts, they understand how to attack with tactics," Adrian said.

"Yes, the one person we secured, he's like a security member like us."

"Indeed, but they are more than that. They are soldiers sent by certain high-ranking police officials."

Code one was stunned to hear that.

"Is it possible this was a well-planned robbery, involving so many low-ranking soldiers?"

"Currently, I have no information to convey. Let Tobi work to find this out. We will avenge the deaths of our comrades when the time comes."

Ridwan, who had arrived at the Headquarter base, immediately hugged Adrian, crying in fear, he said.

"Oh, boy, why did something like this happen?"

Ridwan is the main owner of Headquarter security. His appearance is dandy, with slick curly hair, large rings on all ten of his fingers, and he always boasts about the agate stones on his fingers. Who would have thought that Ridwan, a child who used to be bullied in elementary school, now serves as the leader of the Headquarter? He doesn't have the guts to fight, but he is very cunning and skilled at manipulating people.

"Find out immediately who is behind all this; the lives of my team members must be paid for," Adrian said, leaving Ridwan.

"If you can't get information within 24 hours, your position as leader will be terminated," Adrian's intimidation made Ridwan shiver instantly, and he spontaneously brought his hands together while bowing halfway to Adrian.

Meanwhile, at an unknown location.

A chess board complete with its pawns was displayed on a table. The silhouette of someone sat across the table, moving 2 small pawns on the white board one step forward, and also moving 1 black pawn two steps. The strategy had been set by the owner of this board.
