Chapter 1 - Get Off My Porch!

She awoke in sweat and breathing heavily. It was a nightmare, no, it was a flashback. She was dreaming about the night-the night she saw her father be murdered right in front of her. She was hiding, of course, he- not wanting her to get caught. Even until the end, he was protecting his only daughter.

Sous sat up in her bed, well, it wasn't really a bed. It was more of a little cot on the ground inside of the little shack she lived in. It was the house she had lived in with her father. They were poor. Most like her were poor, living outside of the pack. Sous was a mutt. She wasn't a human, she wasn't a vampire, she wasn't a werewolf; she was a combination of many things and that made her, and others like her, a mutt.

She got out of bed and saw it was still night outside. It wasn't like she had anywhere to be tomorrow. She didn't go to school. Mutts weren't allowed to attend the werewolf school in the district; a school that belonged to the pack. She could attend the human school which was more accepting of mutts but the school was overcrowded as was and since humans didn't do magic, she wouldn't be able to learn any of the spells she needed to learn to control her magic once it came in. That was another thing…the werewolf pack didn't do magic. It wasn't something their species did.

Although Sous was a mutt, she knew what she was. She was part human, part werewolf, part vampire, part fairy, and part witch.

On the dresser was a bowl of water, which her and her father drank out of and cleaned themselves with. She was running low so that morning she was going to need to go to the spring to get some fresh water.

She cupped her hands and splashed some water on her face. With that, she took a breath and thought about how she couldn't wait until she was twelve. At twelve, she'd be able to go to the alchemy and magical school. She'd be free and able to get out of this environment.

Crack, crack!

She turned to see what the noise was and saw something splashing on her windows and on the outside of her shack. She ran to see and saw young boys from the wolf pack throwing what looked to be eggs at her shack.

"Why can't they just leave me alone!" She grinded her teeth, her fangs, short but slowly growing, her ears, already pointed from birth.

She watched them for some time, wanting them to leave, but they remained even at that time of night throwing eggs. They killed her father and now they were here!

Sous ran outside.

"Leave me alone!"

The boys stopped throwing eggs, their eyes wide as if they weren't expecting someone to be there. The boys looked at one another. Their eyes searching for answers.

"What are you, deaf! You wolves killed my father, you happy! YOU HAPPY!!" She yelled. The boys dropped the eggs and turned to leave, running away from the girl who was screaming at them.

The boys ran all the way home across the train tracks to their pack. They opened the door, running inside, and closed the door, attempting to be silent.

"Boys!"

"Eeek."

The boys turn around to face a woman, one who is the leader, the wisest and scariest of them all-their mother. The boys bowed their heads and one of them even attempted to hide the eggs he still had.

Monica stepped forward, a slender woman, no taller than five feet and some inches. Her hair was dark, her lips full, and her eyes were the bluest of them all in the whole pack. She glared at her oldest sons, 13 and 12. Monica shook her head. "What are you two doing up so late? It's two in the morning!" She watched their faces, their eyes down casted. "Abel…Derek…answer me."

It was Abel, the oldest of the two and all the siblings, a spitting image of his mother, about as tall as her too. He humped his shoulders and sighed. "We went across the tracks to throw eggs at that mutt's house, the betrayer."

Monica took a look at the eggs in her son's hands and snatched it. "Do you know how much eggs cost these days?"

"A lot…" Derek said.

"Yes, a lot!"

"We thought it would be fun," exclaimed Abel.

"Okay…and did you have fun?"

The boys exchanged looks.

"No," Derek said. "There was a girl there. An Alpha."

"How you know she a Alpha?" Abel asked his brother.

"Her scent…it was strong."

"I didn't smell it."

"You were too busy running away, that's why-"

"She came out of no wher-"

"Boys!"

The two look at their mother.

"What girl?"

Abel shrugged his shoulders. "Some girl…a mutt, she was living in the shack of the betrayer."

Monica was quiet. Thinking for a moment, confused at the mention of the girl.

"How old did she look?" Monica asked her sons.

They exchanged looks once more with one another.

"She looked about Kara's age."

Monica nodded her head. The conversation was done when it concerned her. She scolded her sons once more and told them to go to their room, to be quiet so as to not wake their sire nor their younger sister, Kara. Once they were in their room, Monica went into the kitchen to get something to drink. She was the head Omega of the pack, the Omegress, so she was educated and attended the political meetings with her Alpha. And so she knew of the man, the betrayer as her sons called him.

His name was Puimo, an Alpha mutt, mixed with everything under the sun. He had a daughter…who else could that girl be? Nothing else came to Monica's head as she walked back to her own room to be with her Alpha. And the girl, she was an Alpha. Derek could smell her even while in distress because he was an Omega.

Monica tucked herself back into her bed and wrapped her arms around her Alpha, Doureena. Where she felt safe was in her Alpha's arms but at that moment, she thought of that little girl. There was no way she missed it. Something or someone must have said he had a daughter, a child. She hated to think this but did her pack really just kill a man and leave his daughter to fend for herself? Has this happened before and she'd been kept in the dark, that she couldn't think of, she didn't want to think of.

The next morning, Sous was at the river banks with two buckets of water. She was making several trips to make sure she had enough for cooking, although she could hardly call it cooking, whatever she did. Sometimes she would go to the human district and dig in trash for food, and when she was bold enough she would go into the wolf's district to do the same with them.

As she walked back to her shack, some of the water spilled out of the buckets and it was at that moment, she remembered she needed to clean the eggs from her shack.

"Those stupid boys," she paused…"but that one boy did smell good." She continued to talk to herself until she came to her home where she saw a woman standing on the porch. She placed her buckets down and walked forward, looking at the slender woman who was on her porch, staring at the eggs. "Who the hell are you?"

"Oof." Monica was not surprised by the mouth on this one. She looked around just to make sure she heard this little girl right, and yes, her son was right, she was an Alpha. Her scent was quite strong and she did look about the same age as Kara but older. "How old are you?"

"Non' your business."

"Little girl-"

"Who the hell are you? Get off my porch!"

Monica remained quiet, analyzing this young girl. Her ears were pointed, her fangs were coming in…Monica wasn't sure what she was but yes, the girl was a mutt.

"I'm the Omegress of the pack."

Sous stared at her, eyes wide, and then she glared, and bared her teeth and soon Monica saw the girl soaring toward her. She blocked the girl, catching her fist, kicking the girl's leg from under her, and slamming the girl to the ground with the Omegress also baring her teeth.

"What you waiting for? Kill me, kill me like you did my father?"

So it was true-

There wasn't enough time to think, for Sous went deep down in her throat, and created the biggest ball of spit and shot it at Monica. She then bit down on Monica's hand, making her scream and pull up.

Sous was able to get from under the Omegress and run outside; she looked back at her shack and ran into the woods, deeper and deeper; she knew where she was going. She would go to the sewers where many of the other mutts were. She would hang there for some time then make her way back to her shack. She couldn't leave the shack; she had to be there for at least until she turned 12 then she could go to the magic school.
