Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: Sick

"Boy, wake up." A woman demanded smacking my cheek to wake me up.

"What?" I moan, barely opening my eyes, to brown eyes boring into mine. She looked like a demon with her long black hair and white dress, but as I woke up more, I could see that her golden brown skin was flawless, while her hair seemed to be caught in a breeze that I didn't feel.

"Your aunt is on the way to get you. Nancy said you collapsed on the way to school." She explained

"Cassandra, is there anything I can do?" Nancy asked, looking over Cassandra's shoulder, looking a bit anxious.

"Take Thor and go back to school, I'll wait with him," Cassandra ordered. Nancy agreed to call Thor, then took off out of sight. Cassandra wrapped me in a blanket.

"Bret!" I heard my aunt yell, not in a worried tone, but as if she were wondering where I was.

 "He's over here!" Cassandra answered.

"Oh, he looks like crap." My aunt blurted out, looking down at me. Wearing her cargo pants and a green shirt, her brown hair was buzzed cut, and her brown eyes stared at me. Her eyes were full of worry, but in a moment, I blinked, and her expression was normal.

"His elements are coming through," Cassandra explained, putting her hand on my cheek.

 "But he's fifteen."

"My only guess is that his elements took longer to come through, but I'm not sure. This hasn't happened to anyone this late in life, so it's hard to say." Cassandra stated, looking at Lea, who bit her lip in worry.

"I will take him home, then," Lea said, walking over to me, scooping me in her arms like a giant baby.

"I will send someone to monitor him because, like I said, this hasn't happened to anyone, so treat my monitor nicely," Cassandra warned, but Lea just nodded, walking away, holding me a little tightly.

Lea walked quickly, talking to my mom even though she had no earpiece or phone. It was the way elements spoke to one another. As we walked through the city, we got glances, but no one really interfered; it was just another normal day in the city.

Mom rushed out the front door, asking if I was ok while rushing over to the couch where I was. She asked a million questions but didn't let me or Lea answer any of them.

She went back into the kitchen, where I saw Lea at the stove through the fireplace. Mom came back with blankets and pillows, setting them all around me and throwing a few blankets on the back of the couch, then rushed to the kitchen to grab me a drink, then came back.

She sat beside me on the floor until Lea called her to the kitchen, asking for help. I watched her walk to the kitchen, where Lea told her to sit at the table. I couldn't see anything, but Lea walked over to the table, then back to the counter. Probably giving mom tea or coffee.

I grabbed the remote that was sitting on the coffee table, turning the TV on to something just to hear noise. I closed my eyes to rest and soon fell asleep.

In my dream, I was flying in a bunch of storm clouds. Lightning would flash, blinding me every so often, but other than that, it would be just dark. I could feel the wind and rain beating against me, but then, suddenly, a large hole opened, revealing a beautiful blue sky. I dove for it like it was the most precious piece of treasure. Finally, I escaped the clouds and was surrounded by the blue sky with white, puffy clouds. I didn't bother looking over my shoulder, just flew higher and higher then dove down.

An intense anger grew in me when something inside was pulling me toward the west. Knowing I had no choice, I headed that way, but before I did, I felt something in my mind, so I sent an intense wave of energy.

I jolted awake, looking around, wondering what had happened and what was going on. Mom rushed over to me from the recliner, asking if I was ok. just told her that I had a bad dream. She comforted me, then went to the kitchen, coming back with a bowl of soup, which she handed to me.

I didn't want to eat, but I didn't want mom to worry too much about me, so I ate a few spoonful's, but they didn't stay down long. I felt so awful, but Mom and Lea assured me it was ok as they cleaned up.

Mom helped me to my feet, taking me to the door behind my head that led to their rooms and bathroom. The bathroom was straight ahead with a shower, a huge bathtub, and of course, the sink and toilet.

She asked if I needed any help, which I refused, so she turned the shower on behind the door, then got a towel out of the hall closet. Mom grabbed me some clean clothes while telling me to just scream if I needed her. I nodded, but she seemed reluctant to leave.

As I took the shower, I felt like I was getting worse, or maybe it was our amazing plumbing. The water kept going from scolding hot to freezing cold, then at some point it felt like there was no water coming out of the shower head, even though I could see it.

That's when I decided to get out worried, I was hallucinating and might pass out soon. I dried myself as quickly as I could, then dressed as fast as I could, which was the speed of a snail.

Shuffling back to the couch where mom already had the area clean with fresh blankets ready to go. As I lay down, I wondered if the fireplace was on cause it was hot, but it wasn't. I kept tossing and turning, with no relief.

I reached for the drink on the coffee table when the heat turned to freezing cold in an instant, sending me back reaching for the covers, wrapping myself into a cocoon. It was so crazy how quickly it happened.

I heard yelling coming from the kitchen, but I didn't care. I just pulled the blanket over my head and curled into a ball, doing my best to get warm.
