Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Yuxin Wang stood in front of the floor to ceiling windows of her office, gazing out at the bustling streets of Shanghai. She had worked hard to build her career as a successful businesswoman, and now at the age of 28, she was the most respected figures in the industry.

As she turned back to her desk, her assistant walked in with a cup of steaming hot coffee. "Good morning, Mrs. Wang," she said with a smile.

Yuxin smiled back and took the cup from her assistant. "Good morning, Lingling. Thank you."

Just as she was about to take a sip of her coffee, her phone rang. She picked it up, "Mrs. Wang, this is Jian Chen from XL Enterprise company. I'd like to schedule a meeting with you to discuss a potential business partnership."

Yuxin's mind raced, as she replied, "Of course, Mr. Chen. When were you thinking?"

"The sooner, the better," Jian replied. "How about today at 2 PM?"

Yuxin nodded even though Jian couldn't see her. "I'll be there."

She hung up the phone wondering what Mr. Chen wanted from her this time.

Yuxin spent the rest of the morning reviewing her schedule and preparing for the meeting with Jian Chen. She had heard of XL Enterprise company, of course- who hadn't? It was one of the largest and most influential conglomerates in China, with interests in everything from real estate to technology.

She walked into the conference room at XL Enterprise company's headquarters, she was struck by the sleek, modern decor and the air of confidence that seemed to permeate every corner of the building. She was greeted by Jian's assistant, who led her to the conference room where Jian was already seated.

"Mrs. Wang, thank you for coming," Jian said, standing up to greet her. "Please have a seat." Yuxin sat down, trying to read Jian's expression. He was even more handsome than she had expected, well calculated round brown eyes, pink lips and pale smooth skin. But there was something about him that seemed... distant. Reserved.

"So, Mr. Chen," she said, trying to break the ice. "What can I do for you?" Jian leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together. "I think it's more a question of what I can do for you, Mrs. Wang," he said. "You see, I've been looking for a partner for my company, someone with your unique skills and experience."

Yuxin scoffed. "Go on," she said. Jian leaned forward, his eyes locking intently on hers. "I want to propose a marriage, Mrs. Wang," he said, his voice calm and matter of fact. "A business agreement, nothing more."

Yuxin's jaw dropped, and she felt she'd been punched in the gut. Marriage? Business arrangement? What was he talking about?

"I'm sorry?" she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I think there must be some misunderstanding." Jian just smiled, a small enigmatic smile. "No, misunderstanding, Mrs. Wang," he said. "I've done my research. I know exactly what I'm getting. And I think this could be a very beneficial arrangement for both us."
